The boss at the end of kindness & delicious dinner and breakfast & even a hot spring that you can enjoy privately even though it is not an in-room hot spring! It was regrettable to stay for one day, so I stayed for two days, but I recommend two days rather than one day! One day, after playing in downtown Fukuoka, I went over to the ryokan, ate dinner, and went to a hot spring. One day, I went to Lake Yufuin and the streets (it takes 4-5 hours if I go around in detail), I went home with swollen legs, had dinner, and went to a hot spring! When taking the train from Yufuin Station to the ryokan, if you contact the owner, he will pick you up and take you to the nearest station when you go out or check out, so it was really convenient!!

It's a family run business and everyone is really friendly. All trains were canceled due to heavy rain, but he took me to Oita Station and helped me exchange the tickets I had booked. I'm making a lot of really good memories The food is delicious and it's a perfect accommodation except for being in the outskirts We will visit again!

This was the first stop on our two-week introductory trip to Japan and it could not have been any more perfect. After a long travel day from America we arrived at Yunohira Onsen the following morning. The town itself is the perfect spot for relaxation nestled in a valley a few kilometers away from the local train station. The host met us at the local station to pick us up and even went out of his way to help us carry part of our luggage with 2 weeks worth of clothes to the van shuttle before transporting us to the Ryokan which was about 15 minutes away. Despite this being our first experience on our first day in Japan, the language barrier (English and Japanese) was not a problem at all. The hosts (husband and wife) graciously gave us a map and marked local restaurants, stores, shrines, etc. in a way we could perfectly understand. The town admittedly did not have many options in terms of restaurants, shops, and attractions, but this was made clear by the hosts. The restaurant the host recommended had delicious fish options and the cobblestone main street and local shrines provided the perfect solution for killing time until we were able to check in at the Ryokan. Once checked in we were provided a selection of yukatas that we would wear to dinner and were then shown to our room. After trying out one of the 4 baths we were summoned for dinner where we had an intimate and extravagant dinner provided by the hosts. The following morning we tried out another one of the 4 baths before having another equally extravagant breakfast before our check out time. After breakfast the host provided a shuttle service back to the train station and we were on our way. Shortly after leaving Yunohira, however, we discovered that my wife had left her JR Rail Pass at the Ryokan. Never fear though as after communication with the host. They arranged to have it be mailed to our hotel in Hiroshima where we picked up it up exactly as the host had said. Despite my insistence to pay for shipping the host said not to worry about it (that it was free). I do not believe that it was free as the host insisted, though, but this was just another example of the excellent customer service/experience the hosts at Ryokan Yamashiroya strive to provide. In all this was exactly the introduction to our trip we were hoping for and the experience exceeded any expectation we had going in. I can't recommend Ryokan Yamashiroya enough to both Japanese and foreign tourists and I can't wait to return to Yamashiroya in the future.

It's a great place to stay. The meal is very delicious. The hot spring is soft, warm and comfortable. This is a small village surrounded by mountains but peaceful and beautiful. The boss and his wife are very kind. The most warm-hearted thing is that they can pick you up when you arrive Yunohira train station.

The hosts were very kind and friendly. The food was one of the best I’ve taken in Japan (consider I had plenty of business trips in Japan before and attended a lot of banquets hosted by large corporations). The onsens were very comfortable. The room was quiet and cozy with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. We also like the decor and the collection of vintage items. Very surprised to find out that the old analog phone in our room was still working! After all, we felt at home in this ryokan because the hosts serve their guests with all their hearts. Will definitely come back.

This is the first time me and my family stay at Onsen Hotel and we love it so much. We received a warm welcome from the both husband and wife. Due to the hotel located at mountain and narrow road to reach, the parking is at road side with walking distance. But don't worry, they provide very good services to carry all the luggages for us. They provide 'yukata' to be wear during the stay, very lovely. The most we love about the the private Onsen experience as we not used to public Onsen yet. The dinner and breakfast is also super. As we have family members don't take raw food, they will help to change it upon request. My family and I love this hotel so much and definitely will come back again if got chance.

All 4 onsen are private rooms, with their status(vacant or occupied) clearly stated on their TV app. Both indoor and outdoor onsen are very nice.

It was an absolute pleasure and joy to stay at Ryokan Yamashiroya. The space is very clean, and the various amenities provided allowed us to have a cultural experience like no other. The true highlight were the meals we had at the ryokan—the kaiseki feasts were meticulously prepared and very delicious, and we were bursting after every meal. Thank you so much, Hiromi-san and Kenji-san, for taking great care of us and making us feel right at home at Ryokan Yamashiroya. とてもすばらしい経験でした。ありがとうございました!
