Shiga Palace Hotel

Service oriented hotel with friendly staff and ski in ski out options to the highest mountain in Nagano (also has a ski/snowboard school with kind boss) Breakfast and Dinner options were plentiful and varied spread which is a better option for room with meals options as there isn’t much open by 5pm in the vicinity. Self drove up and takes 30min to navigate the road whilst bus would prob take an hour or so. Nearest free shuttle stop is 2min walk from hotel (Hotaru Onsen) Would highly recommend to friends to return for snow holidays (mostly Japanese and only a handful of tourists) but there’s a friendly English speaking staff

Front service particularly senior ones are not friendly. It’s far from lift place. Not a ski in and out place. Plus you can’t use lift to store your boards. You have to wear boots to walk down and up two floors. Surely not convenient. BTW food is bad.

Hotel is old, there was signs of termite infection that was cleared. Food was ok. Service was excellent, really everyone there was very helpful! Good location 300m to ski chairs.

Shiga Palace Hotel is a great choice for its location alone—set right in the mountains, it offers easy access to the surrounding area and beautiful scenery that really adds to the experience. One of the highlights was the buffet meals. The food was plentiful, varied, and satisfying, making it easy to refuel after a long day of exploring. The rooms were very traditional Japanese style, which felt authentic and fitting for the setting. While simple, they gave a true sense of staying in a classic Japanese hotel. The communal onsen was also a memorable experience—relaxing, cultural, and something everyone should try at least once while visiting Japan. Overall, the location and meals are major pluses, and the traditional rooms and onsen make this hotel a unique and enjoyable stay.

We like both the services and the cleanliness of the room. However, the hotel needs to upgrade their bathroom and sink. You can't get a good warm temperature in winter when there are 2 taps, one for cold and one for hot. See the pictures attached. The rubber hose in one of our bathrooms broke. Fortunately, they could come immediately to replace it for us. Overall, the stay is ok, but we hope the hotel can upgrade the sink and bathroom.
