Staff were terrifble (front desk and guest services) did not offer any assistance at all. No issues were ever addressed and we were always ignored or treated rudely. Make sure you have a shuttle clearly outlined in your booking or you wont get one... and they wont help. Really sad - because restaurant and other staff are great. I wouldn't stay here again. Such a sad way to end the last part of our vacation.

Colonial Resort.
The resort was amazing and we really enjoyed our time here. This was our first time visiting the Colonial Resort but we have stayed in this chain of resorts twice in the past.
The food was great and we really enjoyed both the buffets and the restaurants. My wife noted that the quality of the food has improved from our last two stays. They had gluten free options for those that are gluten sensitive. Restaurants require men to wear pants and a shirt with sleeves, easy enough.
The rooms were clean with clean sheets, working AC units, and the staff were able to provide cribs for infants/toddlers.
The beach was very big and wide, it spans the entire 6 resort complex. Many parts of the beach had rocks in the water, about 6 to maybe 30 feet into the water depending on particular locations. Once you swim past the rocky area, the sand is nice and soft underfoot. We found an area infront of the Palace Resort that had no rocks when your walking into the water.
Very big and spacious resort with alot of things to do. We really enjoyed this resort and would recommend it. Caribe and Beach Resorts have worse rooms as compared to the other resorts, but this difference is reflected in the price.

It’s a beautiful resort. The staff is great and the food is good. The air conditioner went out in our room twice so that was a disappointment. We ended up having to change rooms which salvaged our stay.

Found this resort by chance just scrolling through ******* and am glad I did. Was great for kids, staff very helpful and fast to handle any request. We had a great time and will be booking this resort going forward. Thank you for a great vacation.

The only disappointment was the inability to make restaurant reservations in advance. We were looking forward to enjoying the different restaurant options as promoted vs buffet every morning and night (tho no complaints about the food at the buffet), but even tho we attempted to book right after arrival, we were able to secure only two restaurant reservations.

We booked the Colonial and the hotel arbitrarily moved us to Caribe. Not happy about this at all and there was no compensation for this change. Will not recommend just for this reason alone.

This is our 2nd time at this resort, and multiple stays at Barcelo Resorts. Overall the staff were great! Lots to do, many places to eat. Shows were average, not from lack of effort. Food was good, not great.
Main problem is we reserved and paid for Maya Colonial, and when our party of 10 arrived they said that section was FULL and no rooms available. We spoke to multiple people but no one seemed to care. They moved us to the Caribe side, they said it was the "same tier." They may cost the same but they are quite different in many ways, which is why we selected Maya Colonial over Caribe in the 1st place. We were not informed of this when booking with ******* that we could get moved to a different resort. They did not offer us any compensation of any kind. The staff just said "we are full." Not sure how they can overbook when we reserved our rooms months ago and paid a large amount for the New year's weekend. We felt completely screwed. Other guests we met had the same problem, but some were upgraded to premium level all inclusive, some got perks at booking the A-la-carte restaurants. They gave us nothing. For this reason we will never return to Barcelo resorts again.
Secondly, our room key cards had to be replaced more than once a day, they just stopped working. In such a large resort, it was quite a nuisance to walk back and forth multiple times a day.
Lastly, the water sports via an outside company was quite good, only problem is they were not very efficient.

The resort is very big and a good choice for families. This resort is a beautiful resort with 6 different hotels all in one.
The food at the buffet is good and clean but they don’t have fresh juices and Their deserts are not that good. Also I didn’t eat at their a la carte restaurants since it was all booked. Their free alcohol isn’t something to crave for .
The pools are big and nice. The beach is okay but I would never go back in it cause I almost fractured my food since it’s rocky and u don’t see it. The rooms are too outdated for this nice resort. And it smelled moldy in my room. They don’t have 2 queen beds they have 2 double beds instead which is something they can improve.
The gym is really nice.
They have a nice small mall with a sports bar which was fun for the kids at night.
The staff is nice but sometimes they don’t understand you well and it could be frustrating.
Overall our experience was great.
