Outstanding. Amazing value and a Great location with friendly approachable staff with a good sense of humour. Mike & Will made us very welcome indeed. Our private room was superb with excellent views over Wasdale Lake and hills. The room was clean, linen was immaculate - great ironing Mike and it was lovely & warm. The showers were hot and powerful enough and toilet facilities very good. The YH is a great historic building and significance, the internal rooms are amazing. The fireplaces are of great importance and hopefully are a protected feature. Lovely full English Breakfast and all the trimmings. All in all this YH is brilliant and I can’t recommend it enough. Hopefully I will revisit in the future and oh there is ample parking. PS Scafell is easily within walking distance. Thank you Wasdale.

We was so happy to find this place it was like a miracle. Me and partner had a blow out due to a pot hole in our car just on the road near this lovely youth hostel. And was so looked after for 3 hours while we were recovered. The place is amazing and the customer service from the manager Steve was amazing. The rooms and food were great. We will be back thats a promise !!!

I stayed at YHA Wasdale Hall for 6 nights, and was so impressed by Steve and his wonderful team. The hostel is managed to an extremely high standard – everything was kept immaculately clean and well-organised, and the team were welcoming and friendly. I stayed in a shared room, with 6 beds, and it made such a difference that each bunk had its own power point and reading light. A basin in the room was also really handy. The common areas are lovely, with fantastic views over the lake and screes, and there are many walks directly from the hostel, as well as from further down the valley at Wasdale Head. I really enjoyed my stay, and hope to return at some point.

This is possibly the most picturesque YHA in the UK. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly, for all the walkers out there, there is an abundance of path, walks, hills and mountains with some exceptional views. There are two inns on pretty much opposite ends that are well worn a visit. The hostel is pretty much all original features. For those who want to relax there are several bookshelves of excellent books. Good choice of alcoholic beverages, could do with a decent selection of non-alcoholic beers as well. But that's s minor quibble. Will definitely visit again.

What a beautiful place, inside and out! Aged character but modern facilities inside. We managed to get upgraded to private room with dual aspect windows to get wonderful view. Amazing spaces in lounge and dining room. Staff were welcoming with plenty of advice for local walking options.

Beautiful building and surroundings and kind, helpful host. Lovely comfortable sitting room with a good selection of board games etc and for the rainy day apparently there's table tennis options etc in the basement. All was clean and the beds were comfortable and well provided with working light and plug socket. YHA is so absolutely reliable in providing clean bed linen even if staying for just one night, unlike so many other options even in well known hotel chains I've experienced. Lots of folk swimming and boating on the lake as the weather was wonderful the days I was there. Don't forget your swimming costume - and kayak if you have one......for such a wonderful idyllic setting. Stunning place to sit or walk and enjoy the views nearby. The relatively short walk around the nearby locality mapped at the hostel is a beautiful and varied one - well worth a couple of hours. A bit disappointed that the opposite side of the lake had steep scree that would be dangerous for most folk to try to navigate.... that's nature for you!! But having said that the walk to Wasdale Head along mostly road by the lake is amazingly beautiful. There were even some walks that were not so reliant on good orienteering skills along the side of a stream that goes up to waterfalls to the side of lake to explore which was helpful.

This was my first ever stay in a youth hostel and i am well and truly hooked. Sally anne the lady who booked me in is by far the kindest and most genuinely lovely person i have ever met. Sally anne went above and beyond to help myself my son and my partner who wasnt in the best shape for which we are alll forever grateful. Sally anne and Mike have so much knowledge of the area and were both more than willing to share and help and be just flipping awsome. Sally ann made my holiday the best it could be and it was amazing. Wasdale hall is a stunning building steeped in history with clean facilities amazing people and a stones throw away from the lake. I met some wonderful, intresting, and lovley people I dont think any YHA could ever live upto wasdale hall as they dont have a Sally anne and a Mike. Thank you for everything Sally anne and I truly do hope we met again xxx

I stayed here for the Easter Bank Holiday because all other hostels, including Coniston were fully booked. But, boy was I lucky. Wasdale turned out to be amazing, centred at the heart of the Lake District’s most stunning views, which can’t be said about Coniston as I drove past it on my way back, thinking how luck I was it was fully booked! Located opposite a stunning lake which is dwarfed by the challenging mountains above, the hostel all the essentials, as well as breakfast and much needed dinner after a days hike, and of course beer! Don’t worry about finding routes before you travel, as the hostel staff are very knowledgeable and experienced with the local routes, and will be able to signpost. The staff are exceptionally hopeful and happy to help in anyway, and really made my trip the best it could be. My only criticism was that, it wasn’t until I was about to leave, that I realised the hostel sell Ordinance Survey maps of the area for £9, something which would have been nice to have with me, but I managed well enough with a picture of the map displayed in the hostel. Definitely worth a visit.
