Clarion Collection Hotel Cardinal

Vaxjo|2.32km from Granngården
Having been married for 25 years to a Hotel General Manager, Ive stayed in hotels all over the US. I have stayed at this hotel a total of 3 times before, and have always been pleased with the staff, the food, and the cleanliness. The rooms have been recently renovated and what an amazing difference! Lina checked us in (and out) and was beyond professional and helpful, not to mention extremely knowledgable and friendly. The beds are new and very comfortable, amazing fluffy and oversized pillows too. Very nice amenities including higher end hand soap and shower gel. The room provided everything we could need except a mini fridge which would have been a nice add-on. The cleanliness was outstanding! And as a former hotel person I know what to look for...the only thing I found out of place was 1 fingerprint on one of the 3 huge windows... ; ) No dust and sparkling clean bathrooms, and surfaces. Dinner and breakfast buffet (along with coffee /tea and cookies at check in )are always included in the cost of the room. For dinner last night the menu consisted of no less than 5 very creative salads, (think mushroom, caesar, bean and so on. All very flavorful and fresh. The mains were roasted pork loin with two sauce options along with really amazing au gratin potatoes, fresh bread choices as well. Fruit and cheese. Drink options are water (only still) ,everything else is for purchase (wine, beer, cider, soda). Breakfast was also outstanding...very Swedish/English touches, baked beans, scrambled eggs, bacon, small smoked sausages, hard and soft boiled eggs were among the hot dishes along with cold cereals, extensive fresh breads, a fruit and cheese table. Oatmeal with all the options including fresh lingonberries, and pastries. And famous Swedish pancakes (think crepes )They even had a sampling of fresh micro-greens, smoked cold meats like pork, ham and turkey to put on your traditional Swedish macka or open faced sandwich). This hotel is located in downtown Växjö within walking distance to great bars and nightlife including a real Irish pub just across from the hotel that offers live Irish music on the weekends. The hotel offers a sauna and a gym, and a really lovely lounge with cocktails for purchase. The only drawback I could find was no ice machines, but this is to be expected for hotels in Europe. There is for fee garage parking (about 19.00 usd per night), but local (free after 6pm parking is just around the corner) I cant say enough great things about this property. We will be regulars for sure!!!

The hotel service is very good, the equipment is very new, and it feels safer than the other hotels in this time. The room is large, comfortable, and the location is good. It's not too far away if you drive.

It's a very clean place and a beautiful place. The service was amazing, the room had a lot of storage place in the garderobes. There was more than enough towels and glasses to use. But on the other hand the breakfast was good but it could be better. It was not a very ”breakfast like” breakfast. It was just some types of bread and cookies, some types of ham, juice and other stuff. It could be better but it's good. We did not have any time to go to the relaxing room, but we are sure it would be amazing and very relaxing. The pool was very clean and enough pool space for a family. I felt very sure to leave my family in the hotel without me, due to food, bathrooms and stuff. It was extremely thoughtful of the hotel manager/ managers to open a restaurant there, on the other han the it was very pricey but still good experience and I would definitely come back to this hotel. Even tough it was a one day trip it was an amazing experience and I recommend this hotel to other people.

Reserved the delux room. Not very luxurious. We had a bit of trouble to start with. We're on a road trip around Sweden and so have been booking places to stay on the day. We booked this one a few hours before, so we understand that problems can happen last minute. When we turned up, the hotel was fully booked even though we'd paid for the room already through Hotel Specials. The hotel managed to squeeze us in as a couple hadn't turned up. The chap who served us first wasn't the friendliest and we were made to feel a burden. The room itself was as basic as you can get. Clean enough except for the silver fish! There was no kettle in the room, which is not alot to ask. There is a little communal kitchenette. We made the mistake of assuming that they have cooking utensils. They don't. But we were able to make a cuppa at least. Breakfast was fine. The dining room a bit tired. The receptionist/owner was friendly and kind. She had to sort out Hotel Specials as they'd obviously cocked up. So all in all. Was fine.

Let me first describe this hotel : it's not good, it's not bad, the paint is peeling off the windows (also inside !) and the location is not ”whaw”. There is a small parking behind the hotel, that during my stay was largely filled with building materials and tools. The bathroom is somewhat old fashioned, but functional. Normally I would give 3/5 for this hotel. Unfortunately, the hotel operator gave me upon arrival the key of a room at the ground floor (small, dark) and asked me to pay in advance, which I did. Then I went to my room and noticed there was no electricity, which the man at the reception clearly knew. This was really a shame : YOU DON'T MAKE PEOPLE PAY FOR A ROOM IF YOU DO NOT EVEN KNOW IF YOU ARE ABLE TO GUARANTEE ELECTRICITY IN THAT ROOM ! Disgusting attitude ! Disgusting. I made clear this was fully unacceptable and then I was given another room at the first floor, where there was electricity. This happened to be a double room, which the hotel owner probably hoped to rent at a higher price, by sending me to the dark room without electricity. Disgusting attitude ! And this was not an oblivion, but really bad intention. Disgusting !
