We had intended to stay here two nights – the website pictures do look quite good. But, after one night in a supposedly renovated room, we had had quite enough and left with a sigh of relief after an acceptable breakfast despite its quality being in the lowest quartile. The room designer of the ongoing and major refurbishment must have cut costs by specifying thin curtains without an inner blind so we were wakened by the early morning sun at 05.00 and later seven vans containing loud talkative refurbish workmen parked in the inner courtyard outside our room at 06.45. Sleep? Simply not possible. Further, the complicated TV apps did not work, the phone had yet to be installed (fortunately there was no emergency) and the shower never got anywhere near warm. And, whilst some people might be, we are not fans of cold showers. For this life-enriching experience my credit card was charged €171. I did not intend to submit this critical report unless the hotel’s general manager (supposedly Frédéric Van den Daelen) responded poorly to my (two) complaint email. However, It is now over a week since we left and he/his staff have not responded at all (although this morning I did receive an automatic request to complete a survey! … which my virus checker did not allow me to access… ) so I now submit this review hoping that other travellers will not make the same mistake as we did.
