We had such a great time at Kituri Camp. The staff are beyond excellent. Ernest is a welcoming host and Ali especially made our stay so special, chatting every evening around the fire and teaching us Swahili. The accommodation is comfortable but basic, which is what we were looking for as the price is great value for money. The food was plentiful and tasty for three meals a day, we absolutely couldn’t have asked for more. The chef also accommodated the allergies of one of our party well, which we appreciated very much. Kituri Camp isn’t luxury, but it more than caters to any needs you have, it’s clean and comfortable and special and the staff really make it fantastic. We were very well looked after and felt comfortable and safe the whole time. You arrive to Kituri by boat going down the Rufiji River. It’s a pretty awesome way to arrive and made it feel even more like an adventure. It would be a shame to come to Nyerere National Park and not spend time on the river, the location of this camp means that even when your day isn’t centred around it you still get a river experience every day. If you are travelling with small children or people with mobility issues the scramble up and down the river bank onto the boat might be tricky, but for us it was great fun. The porch of our hut looked onto the river and we watched hippos, crocodiles, loads of birds, monkeys and even a bushbaby from our porch. Also quite a few bugs, but it’s the bush so you have to expect that and the room was well prepared with bug spray and mosquito nets. Nyerere National Park was spectacular, both a game drive and a boat safari, and Kituri Selous Camp was a perfect base to explore the amazing wildlife. I will definitely recommend Kituri to friends and family.

We had a fantastic time at this camp. From our arrival until the moment we left there was friendly, personalised service and help with anything we needed. It's right on the river (you make the final part of your journey by boat; there's no road access) and into the evening you can see hippos, crocodiles and some of the local birds right from your dinner table or room. In the evenings we could talk round the campfire about our day, and our hosts were happy to share stories and knowledge about the local area - the nearby village of Mloka and traditions and history of Tanzania and East Africa. Ali was really friendly and helpful and even taught us some words in Swahili during the evenings as well. In terms of safari you just cross the river (by boat) and can go by jeep to the entrance of the national park and around it. We saw loads of giraffes, hippos, zebras, elephant, lions, impala, buffalo, wildebeest and many local birds. You can also take a boat safari trip from this location along the river where you can see hundreds of hippos, crocodiles, lizards and birds nesting and wading. The food was excellent, and there was plenty of it. On days when we were out there was a boxed lunch sent with our guide for us during the day, and every day started with breakfast and then ended with an evening dinner. Every meal was different and all included plenty of fresh fruit and local recipes. Would definitely recommend this location. Things to know: - They'll arrange to get you there whether it's by jeep, plane, etc. We had an easy journey from Dar es Salaam by road. - This is probably not a location for people with reduced mobility or young children. You need to be comfortable with climbing in and out of boats, up and down river banks, uneven floors and short flights of steps. Don't let this put you off but definitely note it! - It's a wild location next to a river. There are bugs. The rooms will be bug sprayed and the mosquito bed nets are good so it's fine overnight, but bring plenty of bug spray. - This is an 'off the grid' location. The plumbing is good, the bathrooms are simple but clean. There is very limited electricity - lights are solar powered and there is a generator available for three hours each evening to charge phones and power packs. - No wifi but there is mobile/cell and data reception.

We stayed with our family of six in three river banda’s for three nights in July 2022. This was a wonderful experience. Salim responds very quick and informative on whatsapp. I would really recommend to book a stay and safari package directly at kitouri. This is cheaper and more convient. Our guide Joseph drove us from our hotel in Dar es Salam to the camp (5 hour - drive). Joseph was incredibly kind, a very safe driver and on the safari he learnt us so much about the wildlife. He tells in a natural and intruding way which made the safari’s more special. We did a boat safari and two full game drives, which were amazing. The park is not full with tourist and we saw a lot of wild life. 2 days safari was long enough to see everything in a relaxed manner. 1 day would be to short. (The last morning we did a walk safari, which can be skipped. This felt a bit like a tourist theater show.) From the camp there is a nice river view where you can see hippo’s. The staff from the camp was really kind. Please keep in mind that it’s a safari camp and not a five star hotel so don’t expect a lot of luxury. Bed’s and mosquito nets are good, showers don’t have a lot of pressure and are cold though. Food in the camp is basic but okay. Everything is served with a smile from the staff. We made a stop in the village close to the camp, which made big impact on us. We brought toys, pencils, coloring books and other stuff from home which we gave to Joseph who shared it later on with the people he thought would appreciated the most. We would really thanks Joseph, and the staff from kitouri for a life time expercience. If you have an questions feel free te contact me. Kind regards, Justin
