Hotels in Municipio XIV – Monte Mario, Rome

This hotel was booked by the tour company and we were here two nights at the end of our tour. This is not a four star hotel by any standard, unless you are only factoring in the fact that the room is large and that there was A/C in the room. An older hotel, although from the onset you wouldn’t think so. The front lobby is not necessarily accessible, as you have to climb a large flight of stone steps to get through the front door, once inside the front entrance there is a small ramp beside the stairs to pull your luggage up. The reception in the morning are friendly enough, but don’t bother trying to get any assistance from the evening desk attendant, she was rather rude and was not interested in helping at all - we had an issue with an Uber Eats order (we asked to meet them outside and they never arrived after 40 minutes of waiting so we decided to go back to the room and try calling the restaurant and we just said to the front desk that we had an Uber order that may be delivered in case they showed up and she just shook her head covered her ears with her hands and said “no no not her problem that she does nothing with it”) I wasn’t asking her to do anything with the order just that it might be delivered. But anyways, back to the rooms, it’s not your typical room size it is larger then what you would expect from a hotel in Europe. Relatively clean, fixtures in the bathroom were old, the stand up shower stall was tiny and the doors were broken. The shower head was loose and came off when I turned it on, spraying the entire bathroom with water. The double bed was really two twins pushed together. Location is horrible, it’s far from transit and you can’t access the main parts of Rome easily. It’s down a lane way and difficult to find and the street itself is narrow and dark. There is a restaurant downstairs, but the food was horrible and took forever. The breakfast was your typical breads, cheese and cold cuts. And again, even the staff in the restaurant were rude and weren’t keen on providing service. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, even if you’re on a budget.

Hotel conveniently located next to The Vatican in a quiet neighbourhood with many restaurants, cafes, clothing stores within a 5-10 minute walk. Hotel staff very professional and friendly. Special mention to Front Desk Agent Chiara Stage who went above and beyond in ensuring we got the most out of our short time there. We had a lovely balcony and a large bathroom. The room was spotless and modern with flat screen tv. The only complaint being that the pillows and matress were too hard for my comfort.

The hotel front desk is very good in English and the communication is barrier free. Because it is a Marriott member, you can get free internet access. Compared to the hotel in the city center, the room is large and the balcony is large. That is, the kettle will cause a jump, and directly find the problem within five minutes. Next to the hotel is the Gemeli Railway Station. Take the three stops and get off at the Metro Line A to get anywhere in Rome.

Where do I start. DO NOT BOOK TO STAY HERE. Im never one to complain or even leave a review. But i had to with this awful place and terrible customer service. The double bed we had, was 2 metal camping beds pushed together with a thin but SOLID ”mattress” on top. 1 flimsy pillow. Dust mites made my asthma flare up. Stains all over the carpet and our duvet topper. Damp on the ceiling. A telly that doesn't work. No drinking facilities. A rickety lift that only worked to floor 3, not floor 5 where we were put. Dreadful cooked breakfast. Pre wrapped pastry was OK. Rude staff. Far away from any of the sites to see, description of hotel says it is much closer than it actually is. We moved to another hotel after our first dreadful night. And upon complaining, we have received no compensation for anything. Awful customer service. AVOID AT ALL COST.

The C-Hotels Club House is located outside of Rome and therefore in a rather quiet area. We stayed for 3 nights in their comfortable rooms. The staff is very qualified and friendly, listening when needed. In the lobby there is relaxing music, large sofas and a bar. As for the room, we were lucky to be 2 in a 3 person room, which gave us more space. The double bed and the single one are very soft and comfortable. A dressing room will allow you to place your clothes, very practical (you may be cramped with 3 people). A small negative point, our door scraped on the floor, so we sometimes thought we had closed it when we didn't. We had to push it very hard to get it past the scraper The bathroom is clean and very 'luxurious'. Beautiful tiles with a nice light, shower/bathtub placed right next to the window (both advantages and disadvantages), very good quality towels and shower products available. The daily cleaning is very nice and very well done, worthy of 4 stars. Unfortunately we could not try the breakfast (we were up very late). As you can see, our stay in the 3-seater room was very enjoyable, now let's talk about the 2-seater rooms we were able to visit with our friends : At first sight, the room loses a bit its charm. Everything is obviously narrower and the door practically touches the bed when you open it. I won't comment more on this as I didn't stay there. In conclusion, I can recommend this hotel, moreover the prices are very attractive and despite its out of the way location, you will always find bicycles/trotters nearby as well as the metro and bus!

In short, good and nothing I’d complain about as such, mostly the bathrooms need a revamp. My card was charged 100 euro before arriving which is apparently a card check but I haven’t received it back (1 week later). If you want to do it like that, take a deposit. I was expecting the 100 euro would be taken off my bill but it wasn’t. Apparently I have to wait. Also on Booking .com it says tax included but it isn’t - they needed 40 euro cash when checking out and needing to run for our flight which I didn’t have. Had to run around finding an atm last minute. My original review is as 4 stars but this marks it down hugely for me. Location - fantastic. We were originally going to stay near Termini (having never visited Rome before) and so so glad we chose here instead. Easy transport links by bus and metro to everything you would need. Right at the walls to the Vatican which was pretty cool (especially as you want to visit the Vatican as early as possible) Staff - Lovely. We didn’t need much anyway but always a smiley face and a Ciao. Helpful with some local restaurant info. Room - not overly impressed. The room itself is nice but some water atleast in the room would be nice since it’s not a super budget hotel. No little shampoo or shower gel etc, just some pump on the wall which isn’t nice. The toilet paper is like plastic napkins and not nice. Bathroom pretty bad in general, shower floods to an extreme and the light flickers. Last thing is the bed sheets need replacing completely. They are clean but stained. Again no real issue, it happens in hotels but would be better to just get rid of them and get new. (Since we weren’t here long, we left do not disturb sign on so can’t say anything bad about the cleaners). Rome in general - book tours to colluseum and Vatican. Visit everywhere early. Vatican, St Peters Done, Colluseum, Palentine Hill and Pantheon are some of the LONGEST queues I’ve seen in any city around the world. If you want people-free photos of Trevi fountain and Spanish steps, you must wake up at 5:30 (we did 1 day just for this. Was worth the reward). 100% would come back to Rome, not sure it would be this hotel as I feel the price was steep for the quality but this area or Trastevere for sure.

I have stayed in the best hotel in this price range in several cities in Italy, right near the Vatican. Although it is a bit far away from the famous attractions in Rome by taxi (in fact, the taxi distance in China is very close), but it is within walking distance from the hotel. The design of the street and the hotel are great. The rooms are large, the TV is large, and the windows can be fully opened for ventilation. The breakfast is also very rich. The only drawback is that there is no shampoo.

A very nice large apartment (5 rooms in total) 2 steps from the stop metro Cyprus-Vatican Museums. So a few minutes from any central point of the city. The meeting is located in a large well-treated house. Our room, 2 seats, was very nice. There are two very clean and ordered shared bathrooms in the apartment, as all the others, which also offer shampoo and bathroom for guests. In the kitchen, even this shared, there is always something to eat and drink, things that would be mainly for breakfast (brooches, cooked fats, marmelade, spoilable chocolates, fruit juices, milk, crackers, the, Solvent coffee ...). The stoves are common use and once used must be washed but there is everything necessary to do it. The boy managing the structure, Julian, is very nice and available. It is a great price-quality ratio.

We really enjoyed our stay here! It was high value given that we paid much less than other hotels in the city center, and the room was comfortable with an excellent air conditioner. There were also some really nice touches - detailed map provided by front desk as well as a to go breakfast during our early morning exit for airport shuttle. The breakfast buffet exceed our expectations for the price of the hotel! Only suggested feedback for improvement: this is not 5 minutes from Cornelia subway station. We are brisk walkers and it took 12-13 minutes each time. We still consider that really convenient, but 5 minutes is misleading. 4/5 stars - Patrick and Julianna
