Ewaa Express Hotel - Al Olaya

Riyadh|0.35km from Al Faisaliah Tower
Mid-summer, during corona might not be the best time to visit Riyadh, but I don't know that there is any good time to visit the Petal Hotel. My friend had stayed at the Petal previously and had a good experience. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. We booked our room via Booked.Net (possibly mistake #1, the jury is still out on that. (we paid SAR 963)). The front desk manager could not find our fully paid reservation but said not to worry, he would give us a ”discount” and an upgrade if we paid again. Another 1200 SAR later, we were shown two rooms and given our choice. The rooms were identical to the ”executive” room we had paid 963 for. Later that evening, a second front desk manager, who did not speak English well, but was friendly, showed us the confirmed/paid reservation from Booked.Net. We said we would speak with the first manager who spoke better English about it in the morning. Long story short, the first manager had absolutely no interest in helping us resolve the issue of paying twice. As far as he was concerned, it was no fault of the hotel's and we should work with Booked.Net on getting our money back. We will see. If Booked.Net steps up to the plate, they will receive a good review. So, here we are in the ”executive room.” I would say there are currently no good views out of any of the rooms. There is construction going on in the front of the hotel. The room furniture is old and shabby. The carpet is stained and old. The toilet ran constantly, only stopping after multiple jiggling of the handle. The light by the mirror is poor and the quality of the provided lotion, shampoo, and shower gel is mediocre. The room-service menu had obviously been soaked in water and allowed to dry. There was nothing available in terms of information about TV channels or things to do in Riyadh. Only two water bottles were provided (this in a place where one does not want to drink the tap water.) It may be telling that in order to reach Room Service, one dials 666. We had purchased breakfast, but were told repeatedly that we were eligible for only one breakfast the first day. The second and third days we received two breakfasts only after my friend went down and insisted. Overall the breakfasts were decent but don't expect to get the freshly squeezed orange juice on offer. Day 1 we received one glass of apple juice, days 2 & 3 we received some sort of fruit punch. Because of COVID-19, the pool, gym, and restaurant are all closed. I fully understand the limitations that COVID is putting on tourism and businesses. However, I have been to three other hotels this summer in Saudi and was treated very well at the other three. The Petal was by far the worst of the lot.

Where do I Begin!! Welcoming energy from the Valet Team, and some familar faces which is always nice as a retrun guest. Check in was smooth and effortless. The rooms are immaculate with touch pad integrated tech through out the room. Opening the curtaing with the tv remote or ipad was certainly convinviet. The Breakfast Buffett was one of the best I ever have experienced! The staff there works very well together from the Hostess to the Chefs everything fresh and tasty. Connected to Al Faisaliah mall which was helpful. The Gym is very small and quite dated, however it has everything you need inculding steam/sauna and cold plunge, plus it closes at 1am. Traffic in the area is the worst!! However if you can navigate you schedule accordinlgy in may go unoticed.

I usually try to find something positive to say about a place, but with this hotel it is almost impossible. If there was something good to say I think that going out of business would be the kindest thing. Everything is below any standard, but especially the service level of this hotel deserves the mention of being just horrible. Some daily picks: sound insulation is not available, non-smoking rooms are smelling of tobacco, A/C is making the loudest possible noise and the bedbugs are making attacks. Then you try to change rooms and the personnel inform that they will transfer the luggage to another room during a days absence and you arrive late in the evening just to notice that nothing has happened… On top of that when you get out of the shower naked a guy steps in with his luggage saying that he has a reservation for the same room.

The lounge with the entrance is equipped with Arabia cherry blossoms and dates service. The room was spacious, the bathroom was clean and I was able to spend it comfortably. The breakfast at the restaurant was buffet style and the omelette was made with my favorite cooking method. Because it was just when the sightseeing visa was released, there was not much knowledge of the sightseeing spot, and when it consulted, it was a correspondence that searched by the mobile phone and the PC, and it was a pity that it did not know many things, but The staff was kind and polite and felt good.

To be objectives my experience was averaghe. Location and breakfast was very good. Room needs renovation and a modern touch. You cant make phone calls neither local nor international. The staff needs a lot of improvement in customer relations to deal better with guests.
