Firstly, I am going to list the Pro’s and Con’s of this hotel, then I’ll elaborate on my experience at Safir Sharm Waterfall Resort Hotel Pro’s: - Good variety of food options. - Lively fun entertainment. - Front of hotel kept very clean and well air conditioned. - On site medical clinic - A small handful of lovely, helpful and supportive staff. Con’s: - Lower ground rooms smell like sewage. - No privacy/blackout curtains in hotel room(s). - Broken toilet. - Poor refrigeration - Dusty air conditioning system and dusty lampshades. - Two lifts: one derelict, out of use and occupied by birds. The other lift, breaks down frequently. - Sewage smell outside main entrance of hotel - Cross contamination practices with cleaning and food preparation/distribution - Rude staff. - Very slippery floor surfaces - Balcony safety concerns I initially chose this hotel as I wanted to celebrate my birthday in ‘style’. However all was not as it seemed. Upon arrival, my friend and I were taken to our [separate] rooms. Along the way we witnessed peeling and cracking ceiling and floor panels missing. Once I entered my room I was greeted by dust blowing from the air conditioning system, I turned on the lamp and a flurry of dust fell from the lampshade(s). The toilet seat was broken, wobbly lid and when I sat on the toilet seat it completely shifted in the opposite direction to the lid. Shower curtains show evidence of not being cleaned/ not being cleaned properly or replaced. The curtains; provided no privacy as the only curtains that were able to be drawn were the lightweight white one. Drapes could not be drawn and upon trying; it broke away from the curtain rod. As a precaution I always clean a hotel room before using anything and thought the bad smell was initially coming from the shower curtain. However, that was not the case. I got insufficient sleep as the sewage system could be smelt throughout my hotel room. In which it kept me awake through most of the night. After speaking with the room supervisor he changed our rooms to a sea front view room… One saving grace was there was no smell of sewage in the room however in was apparent that this room too does not get dusted and there was visible evidence of dust on all the lampshades, air con and tv. We frequently had to rely on caddy drivers as the lift would constantly breakdown; sometimes multiple times throughout the day and night. It’s clear that this hotel has NO intention of getting the other lift fixed as the cables for that lift have been removed! One thing I did like about this hotel was the daily variety of BBQ selections. However, I witnessed a chef cross contaminating the food. Though he was wearing gloves, he was touching raw meat and serving cooked meat with the same gloves that he had previously touched the raw meat with. At no point were his gloves changed. When I brought this to the attention of a manager he asked me “did you speak to the chef to tell him what he did wrong?”.
