Six of us stayed at the CostaSur for 2 weeks in January 2024, our second visit. It was a bit strange. The resort was about 20% full This meant that the a la carte restaurant and the gym were closed and the evening entertainment was on about twice a week. When we complained, we were given a lobster dinner in the almost deserted cafeteria. But there were advantages to the low occupancy. It was very quiet and relaxed. No problem finding a lounger on the beach. And the staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was well prepared but bland with limited selection. There was always enough food. When we got bored with the food we went into Trinidad and ate very well. There are other positives. The beach is the best place to swim on the Ancon Peninsula. The Bungalows are huge and overlooking the beach.  The proximity to Trinidad made up for the shortcoming In the end we all agreed that, in spite of the problems, we were glad we stayed there and would return in the future. To summarize: the Costasur is not a good place to stay if you want to party or if you are a foodie. But its great if you are looking for a quiet, inexpensive place to say if you want to relax and spend time in Trinidad.

This is such a very strange resort. When we stayed there were barely any guests and so we were told that meals would be A La Carte. The first night there they asked if I wanted chicken or pork for the main course. I ordered chicken but they returned and told us that they didn't have it! That dinner consisted of 2 tiny quarters of white bread, a small plate of salad, a plate of white rice and a plate containing the tiniest port chop and two teeny sweet potatoes. We were not offered desert. The chop was well-seasoned but all bones. My husband (2 metres tall so needs calories) was absolutely furious knowing that we'd paid a lot more to stay there than we did in Varadero(where there was a huge buffet daily, unadulterated beer, beautiful pool, entertainment of some kind for most of the day, a panoramic sea view, very comfortable beds and a hot rainfall shower). He said that it's the same kind of food that many Cubans would have (he's Cuban). He demanded they bring more plates of food which they did. I'm not a big red meat eater so went to bed hungry. The menu is the same every day for breakfast. The lunch and dinner menus are just the one menu with the same thing every day. For breakfast you get 2 tiny rolls or miniature toasts with boiled eggs or fried eggs. You can have a plate of fruit. There is juice but the papaya didn't have any flavour to it, maybe it was watered down. Only on the last morning was I offered cheese and had 2 teeny slices of cheese with spam (neither of us could eat the spam, anyone would have thought we were in a war!). Lunch and dinner are two small bread rolls with a teeny know of butter, a plate of salad, a plate of rice and a chicken/pork/beef (one day) fillet. My husband said the beef was as tough as old boots. You could also have one small pudding (they didn't have ice cream) and you can have fruit. I don't really eat pork so had the same chicken fillet daily for both lunch and dinner! My husband usually drinks Cristal beer but couldn't in the restaurant as they'd decanted it into plastic bottles and it was flat. Elsewhere in the resort some of it had been doctored (strange large bubbles) and we suspected that someone was selling off some of the real thing on the black market and giving us something else! There was no music or entertainment and the swimming pool only had a few inches of water in it (insufficient for a swim, it was practically empty) the whole time that we were there. Don't advertise that you have a pool if it's empty! We were told that people just go there to relax. That's fine but even if you're going there to relax you're not going there to die! A holiday is for living! When you think of Cuba you think of Salsa, about music, dance and life, there was none of that there! If you're looking for an authentic Cuban experience don't stay there! The bungalow had a great setting (in front of a natural lagoon with mountains to the right) but there was no hot water at all and the air conditioning couldn't be adj

Those who have been to Costasur before will be in awe of the improvements. It is absolutely stunning what they have done to the reception area and the dining room and the bars and the pool area and the bungalows. While the restorations were going on, people (from Canada at least) were sent toca neighboring resort (considered to be an upgrade), but any Canadians I spoke with preferred Costasur. Especially the bungalows. Great, attentive staff. Good food. A real gem.

Several years ago we went to Costasur and loved it. Since then, the Costasur has been renovated and it really looks good for a 3 star. The places are clean, well maintained. The staff is basic: do the minimum required, not very friendly, even with tips. Very few smiles. As there is the brand new Mélia right next door, it seems to me that those who are at Costasur are those who did not have the chance to be hired at Mélia, so are suffering their fate. The first two days, no hot water, then, no water, no electricity, we don't worry too much because it's Cuba and we know there are shortages. The BUFFET: every day, for 10 days, the same thing. Really !! in the morning, juice so stretched with water that it has no taste, small pancakes, eggs. For lunch and dinner, pork, eggs, pasta, 2 kinds of fruit (always the same), rice, bread, some fresh vegetables, sweet potatoes and squash. No variety. That’s It! I understand that it's a three star, so we don't expect a 5, but for the 12 years that we have been coming to Cuba, in 2.5, 3 and 3.5 star hotels, the latter were really superior in terms of food and staff. . There was also a big hygiene problem, because several of us, including the maid, had stomach upset! Coming back, no thanks!

A little Cuban gem! The resort has been renovated with a modern taste. Clean, the food is good, repetitive, with a good choice. The bungalows are very beautiful, there is hot water every day and the beds are still comfortable. On the edge of the beach where there is the natural 'pool' of the sea...WOW! Beautiful place for snorkling. The people are welcoming and very kind. Recommended for those looking for peace😉

I had no expectations with everything that is said about Cuba that it lacks everything. I had known that this hotel had recently been renovated and it is really very good for one of the oldest hotels in Trinidad. The Reception went very, very well with Daniella with her magnificent smile and Migel who gave me excellent service up to my room. All the staff are super nice. To my great surprise I have a magnificent large bedroom in the Bungalow section with sea view with a small living room and two air conditioning units. But yes, it's Cuba, my safe didn't work and neither did the toilet, but they quickly sent me a very nice person to make the repair. The food is very good and of good quality, everything is very clean. The beach is rather ordinary but nice with plenty of chairs. I recommend this beautiful and charming hotel and especially to visit the magnificent city of Trinidad, 15 minutes by taxi or day bus. Happy Holidays !

Very bad. Terrible attention, they treat you as if you were a thief. The Cuban himself is destroyed. The buffet does not serve, they are stingy and they also ask for your room number every time you enter and they ask you to leave your bag as if you were going to take something. The rooms are disgusting and the pool is not worth mentioning. They are controlling you all the time as if they had given it to you. And many flies on the buffet don't let you eat🤮🤮🤮

Well, we arrived at the hotel at 10:00 am and it is 12:03 in the afternoon and admission to the day pass has not yet been resolved because since there are a lot of us, mobile transfer transactions do not accept that much money and even though we are with small children, not even a glass of water they can give us many things from my country I no longer understand why with the sacrifice we make to bring the family to spend a rich and pleasant day they put so many absurd obstacles on us that I don't understand and they put us in a bad mood what a shame that this such a beautiful country, it is still in the prehistoric era, we are still here and we are 30 adults and 8 minors and they are making us enter 4 at a time. What time do we finish when we have to leave safely?
