Our family of 4 needed a hotel near the airport between connecting flights so our expectation was not high. We always had good experience with other Hampton Inns so this was just an easy choice, assuming a known quality hotel and also close to the airport. The Good about this hotel - 1. close to airport 2. free shuttle (details to follow) 3. has a couple restaurants just across from the parking lot if you don't want to venture out too far 4. check-in was quick The Bad - 1. Free shuttle only starts at 6am so if you need to catch an early flight you'll need to find a taxi. In our case, we had to pre-book a taxi the night before because we needed to get to the airport at 4:30am. 2. The hotel shuttle was just a plain white van with no signs indicating it's for Hampton Inn. Driver was not in any kind of uniform and when I knocked on his window trying to inquire, he came out and yelled 'What's going on'. Well not exactly what I expect a hotel shuttle driver to identify himself that way. When I asked if he's from Hampton Inn the answer was yes. But in retrospect any random guy can give me the same answer and we just kinda need to trust that driver that he's a legitimate Hampton Inn shuttle driver. The whole short trip to the hotel we were wondering if we would end up getting mugged. Just not a good feeling and I think the hotel can handle this a lot better, how hard is it to give this driver an uniform with a hampton inn logo, or print a hampton inn logo on a piece of paper and put it on the dashboard. At least something to make your shuttle and driver look a little bit more legitimate and make your guests feel a little bit safer. 3. As mentioned earlier we pre-booked a taxi to pick us up at 4:15am, turns out the front desk forgot to book it for us. When we got down to the lobby and looked for the taxi, that's when the front desk guy realized he forgot about it. So we waited for another 10-12 mins for the taxi to come. (taxi fare from hotel to airport was less than $20) 4. Not all electric outlets are working, in our room the one attached to the side table lamp didn't seem to work. Had to search high and low to have enough outlets to charge 4 phones and 4 apple watches. The Very Bad - The mattress was the absolute worse, I have never stayed at a Hampton Inn that have mattresses that dip down about 2 inches and with no support whatsoever. I'm not a big person, but my husband is so the whole night I was sinking and rolling to my husband's side. All I needed was a few hours of sleep between flights and I could not get that because of the mattress. Tossing and turning the whole night and could not find a good position. My back was hurting the next day like I was sleeping on an absolute garbage mattress the night before. We did not use the free breakfast, coffee wasn't ready during our stay, no other amenities were used. The poor rating is given based on the fact that everything we needed for a short stay in this hotel fell far sho

Stayed at this hotel recently during March break. Check-in was very quick, as I did the online check-in beforehand. I got the room I wanted, away from the elevators. The hotel lobby and common areas were very clean, as was our room. The room was quite spacious, we opted for 2 Queen Standard. The complimentary breakfast had lots of warm and cold options. The ladies running the show were super nice and very helpful. As soon as an item ran out, they replaced it immediately. The desk Manager was also nice. My only complaint was the noise inside the room. We would get an intermittent noise that sounded like fireworks being launched. It was a bit disruptive. Also, I think the heating system was quite noisy too (or it was another non-traceable noise). The indoor pool is very tiny and there is no hot tub (which would have been nice). Overall, nicely appointed hotel and well-situated

This hotel is pretty old and it shows, but the room was quite pleasant and spacious and the bed was comfortable.
Loved that there was a room air filter machine plus an internal AC unit, though it didn't work terribly well.
There was also a white noise machine which was lovely.
The bathroom is super-small and the only disappointment during our stay.
The staff was very solicitous and professional.
Did not enjoy having to pay for parking over and above the cost of the room (that was a surprise), but I guess downtown hotels can command these fees.
All in all a very pleasant stay, and I would book again if I could get a deal through Trip.com (rack rate is very pricy).

Exceeded expectations, I didn't expect the room to be so well designed and of high quality.
It’s bigger and newer than a star hotel room, and it’s so beautiful. My family is very satisfied and will book here again next time!

As expected of Fairmont, the service is really standardized to a high standard, very good, and very efficient, which is very outstanding in Canada. The location of the hotel, the room experience, and the historical style of the hotel cannot be simply described in words. This hotel is a place I have been to and want to go again, it is really great👍

I have not been to Ottawa before, so I relied on reviews of places within this price range and a good location. As to the location, it is good, central to all of the iconic sites in Ottawa and the Byward market itself. The staff at the Byward Blue Inn is very accommodating . The housekeepers do a terrific job every day, including mopping the floors. So why only three green dots? The place needs a major overhaul. As I write this I am sitting next to a free standing air conditioner, the kind with a hose through the wall. Yes, it cools the room but it is loud. I required earplugs to fall asleep. They have a quiet in-wall unit in the lobby, why not the rooms? The room furnishings are one step above dorm room, two steps below Ikea. There is a six foot or so wood table with two regular chairs and a well-worn desk chair and a bed, and that is it. There are in-room conveniences, like a drip coffee maker, a kettle and a microwave in the room, along with dishes and flatware. The bed is comfortable enough. Towels are basic, but one is only given washcloths and bath towels, no hand towels. The property is well cleaned, but maintenance could be better, the bathroom sink and tub had chips in the finish. Breakfast if offered daily, the problem is, it never changes. Scrambled eggs, some breakfast meat, potatoes, and little egg and cheese sandwiches. I stayed at the Byward Blue for a whole week, that breakfast got boring after three days. There also was yogurt, fruit, cereal and more, so quantity wasn't an issue. I give the place 5 green dots for effort with a solid staff that is very helpful and accommodating, but that doesn't make up for everything else. One last thing, if you want hi-speed wifi, go somewhere else.

Overall this hotel is of good value with the cleanliness and proximity to downtown Ottawa. The hotel was opened to business in 2019. I redeemed from my Aeroplan for the 2 nights stay, and I paid $25/night for parking. Room - The room itself is clean with quite spacious bathroom. It is equipped with small fridge and there’s a microwave over the counter which is good. Amenities - it has a swimming pool and it’s clean with the adjacent patio and you can go outside which is good. It served complimentary breakfast with good selection of food. Plenty of seatings within the dinning area. Parking - OK but a bit tight in the parking stall however even it’s quite fully booked we are able to find parking. While we stayed I’ve found it interesting cleaning wasn’t done during the first night. The attendant made a mistake to our room and we ended up knocking the wrong room but it was an honest mistake I believed. What I’ve found it interesting though is right across diagonally across is a homeless shelter so just be prepared across the corner of the stress diagonally there’s a homeless shelter and be prepared for that. It didn’t bother me but you may end up having the room view of that depending on where your room is located. I’m sad to see so many of them and especially during the pandemic still seeing them on the street is a hit heartbreaking for me. This is a relatively new hotel and suitable for family and I’d recommend.
Conveniently located just minutes from downtown, away from congestion and crowds, enjoy your stay in one of our spacious & comfortable guestrooms modernly designed. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout our hotel, and underground parking is offered free of charge. Start your day with a tasty Starbucks® coffee in our unique on-site restaurant, The Bistro. Whether traveling for business or pleasure, your stay at the Courtyard Ottawa East is sure to be more comfortable than ever before.

I liked pretty much everything about this hotel. Although it was a bit out of the way from downtown, the train station was within walking distance and Uber to downtown was sub-$15. The front desk team was great, and my upgraded suite was huge with a nice kitchenette. Underground parking was free and convenient as well. Breakfast was okay albeit a bit overpriced, and Courtyard’s new “Bistro” style was not my favourite, although to no fault of this particular hotel. Renovation has started on the higher floors and I have to say it’s definitely overdue for one, in fact this is the only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars - the current state of the rooms was just unacceptable in 2022. Once the renos are completed, this hotel will tick all the boxes for a 10/10 comment card.

The location of this Hotel was good. Close to Lone Star Bar & Grill & the St. Laurent shopping center. Also, a five minute walk to the St. Laurent public transit hub which is served by busses & light rail that takes you into downtown Ottawa & only one stop from VIA Rail station @ Tremblay Station. Front Desk Staff was very accommodating. The daily cleaning of my room ( I stayed for ten days ) was not good. I did not get clean bed sheets, no vacuuming done & wiping down surfaces was not done at all. I did get clean towels on a daily basis. First day I stayed I found lots of long black human hair on the bathroom floor ( yuck! ). Room itself was renovated with a modern look, not bad at all. I found the bed was very firm. TV channels do not display in HD. Breakfast was included with my room. Food quality for breakfast is very processed & lots of carbs. Even the hard boiled & peeled eggs come in plastic pouch! The only raw & fresh food I found was an apple. Dining area for breakfast is in the basement of the Hotel in a small windowless room with a TV broadcasting Canadian news. I did find the nightly price was a lot more than it should be for a 2.5 star place but it was the only cheaper option out of the other Hotels in downtown Ottawa at the time of booking.

Outstanding
SSCPaulWe just stayed for 1 night, the room was clean and comfortable. 25$ for overnight parking was a bit much I felt. The location is not the best for a Saturday/Sunday since it is an office area and almost everything around in walking distance is closed, just Tim Hortons and Startbucks is open.
MMrsLLingThe front desk staff are not helpful during checking, they needed to charge me extra fee for 3rd person stay in. I questioned this and they can waive this fee at the end.
The room is large enough for a family stay. It seemed brand new renovation with all accessible facilities, however there are some disgusting smell during the stay.
There is shopping outlets opposite to the hotel, it is convenient to shop some brand name goods
KKseniia KoshevaiaOur stay at Sonder Rideau left us with mixed feelings. On the positive side, the hotel's proximity to historical sites made it convenient for our travel plans. However, the absence of on-site restaurants was a significant downside, especially for those looking for a seamless dining experience.
The cleanliness and overall atmosphere of the hotel didn't meet our expectations. We found ourselves missing the comfort and satisfaction that a well-maintained environment can provide during a trip. It's crucial for prospective guests to consider these aspects when choosing accommodations.
In summary, while Sonder Rideau offers a location ideal for history enthusiasts, the lack of dining options and the subpar cleanliness and atmosphere may leave some travelers wanting more from their stay.
GGuest UserStayed at the Novotel for a week in early Feb 2023 while attending a conference at the nearby Westin. I booked for a really low rate through hotwire. After a pleasant check in I was excited to come into a very large on the 8th floor with a separate seating area and a very large TV. Room was pretty clean although when packing up before check-in I found some items under the bed that did not belong to me. Location was perfect, right across from the Rideau Centre and the Westin/Conference Centre and within a short walk to the Parliament Buildings, Sparks Street and Byward Market. My only compliant is the walls must be paper thin as I could hear the ding of the elevator and conversations in the hall from my room. I was also there a four hour during a power outage in the evening. I assume the outage was unscheduled but there was a lot of confusion and no one at the front desk when it occurred. The hotel shares a building with a DND office which made it confusing leaving the building by the stairs as the stairway lead to a entrance that read ”DND property alarm will sound”, it took awhile to figure out how to exit by the stairs.
AAlicia York-BirdI loved this hotel! A little off the beaten path, but worth it due to good pricing and proximity to Tanger Outlets and the highway.
I've visited twice now and will be sure to book again when needed.
Pros: Rooms are a very decent size, and the hotel just opened recently as of this review, so everything is gleaming clean and new.
The beds are very comfortable, and the bathrooms are lovely.
Cons: The TV could be a little larger, and I'm sad that despite marketing materials to the contrary, we weren't able to connect the TV through my YouTube account as I have been able to do at other hotels, but it was a small disappointment compared to the pros.
My largest concern is how quickly the right-hand elevator door closes without warning; it bashed me a good one as I was walking in , and while I can take it.and brush that off, had that been a small child they could have been seriously hurt. Please get that checked out.
In summary, I will recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a clean, quiet, recently priced place to stay while visiting Kanata 😁
When I arrived at my floor, the air conditioning in the hallway was running at full blast, making it feel like I had just walked into a refrigerator. When I got to my room, it was more of the same. The AC was set to 65 degrees, and so it took more than one hour for the room to get to a comfortable temperature. The room itself was large, spacious and comfortable, although the bathroom had an abnormally low counter height. While the water pressure was good in the shower, it was quite skimpy in the basin. In addition, while I appreciated the presence of a blackout curtain in the room, this is the first hotel that I’ve ever stayed at where the blackout curtain was so long that it fully covered the heating unit when the curtains were drawn. This seems like a design flaw to me and a potential fire hazard. So, I never closed these curtains. I found the TV options to be very poor. There were only 40 channels and nothing that interested me. The breakfast room was much too small to accommodate the number of people staying here. I would say that half the people could not get tables. I had to eat breakfast in my room. The other drawback to mention is that there is only one elevator for this 4-storey hotel, and so wait times were long during peak hours. On the plus side, the staff was extremely friendly and the hotel was close to a large number of restaurants and stores.
GGuest UserWe were there from Monday to Friday of march break. My husband was working and the kids and I were touring around while he was at work. Great location. Close to everything. You can walk everywhere. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows as well. My son had to catch up on a lot of homework while we were there and I was so glad that the lady at the front desk helped us to print a bunch of stuff off for us! Without her help we would have been really unable to complete it! Thanks again sooo much for that! That was going above and beyond! Much appreciated! My daughter enjoyed the pool, I found it too cold unfortunately. Really wish there was a hot tub that was my only thing I missed! Otherwise this hotel had everything I needed! Very clean, maids did a great job and the staff were friendly. Thanks for a great stay!
AAlicia York-BirdI expected more from Glö than I received. I chose Glö as a ”treat” for a couple's getaway, as it was a newer hotel and appeared like it would be snazzier than the usual fare.
Pros: The bathroom was very nice, and the complimentary toiletries are top notch. The rooms are very clean. The mattress was very comfortable and the TV was a decent size.
Cons: The rooms are incredibly small, and while they are nicely furnished, the tiny ”couch” seat was more form than function (i.e. prettier than it was comfortable). The front desk staff seemed very new and clueless on basic hospitality essentials, like how to work the in-room television. It also took ages for a response from front desk on how to work the TV and the issue wasn't even resolved.
I probably will not stay here again nor would I recommend this hotel to anyone I know, as there are so many hotels to choose from in Kanata that offer better, more knowledgeable service and better pricing.
GGuest UserHi Carson & Mark, and staff: it's J and E, thanks for making our stay 5 stars! This hotel is perfectly located for a stay in Ottawa, being a short 800 metre stroll to the Parliament Buildings, War Memorial, National Arts Centre, Rideau Mall, and very close to the National Garllery of Art and Byward Market . We stayed in Room 2223 which afforded a breath taking view of the entire Ottawa Skyline - treat yourself to this Executive King Corner Room. Breakfast at Spin in the Hotel was very good, and priced fair. In/Out Parking on site is also fair and convenient. The hotel was built in 1972 but is well maintained and kept super clean. BIG shout out to MARK at the Front Desk who is absolutely so Personable and went above and beyond the call of duty for us. And of course...CARSON, what can I say, he is the Manager that all Managers should strive to be, very very accomodating! Thanks Ottawa Marriott...we'll be back soon!!!
