Grand Fiesta Americana Oaxaca

Oaxaca|0.41km from Instituto Cultural Oaxaca
We stayed here for 1 night while in Oaxaca. This is a new property and it's nice. The room was quiet and comfortable. The building itself is neat - they created multiple interior courtyards so that all the rooms have windows. We had breakfast at the hotel and it was nice. I used the gym - it's small but has everything that's needed. This is a nice 4 star hotel. Some of the reviews talk about how nice it is...it is nice, but this is not a 5 star hotel, so definitely set your expectations on that, especially if you're used to 5 star properties. The only issue we had was w/ the concierge desk. We'd emailed about airport transport and they wrote back right away setting that up for us. When we wrote a second time about the botanical gardens, we received no response. Then, since we assumed the gardens were closed the day we were going to be there, we wrote to ask about a tour to Monte Alban. No response. I sent a follow up email and did not receive a response. So I called. The person I spoke with on the phone told me someone would call me back. I explained they could call or simply reply to my email. No one called or wrote so I went ahead and booked a tour w/ a provider I found on Trip Advisor. Upon arrival at the airpot, our driver told us asked us about our tour for that day. It turns out the concierge desk had booked us a tour but not bothered to tell us. This was so unfortunate because 1) I'd literally followed up twice trying to get a response and 2) we had to tell the tour company we were not available, which I felt really bad about. Anyhow, sorry to write too much about that experience but it was frustrating and something that could have been avoided with slightly better communication.

Hotel Don Nino

We have confirmed reservation in classic triple room, in Don Nino hostel in Oaxaca, and want to give us a double with additional bed for kids, being 5 adults, at the same price. After testing my 1.80-high extra bed I denied No solutions have been given and they want to return half of the paid, to which we denied Han have accessed the integra return and we requested a complaint sheet, which hadn't had ... We asked to talk to the manager, who hasn't been able to put up until half an hour later, without giving any alternative solution, and saying it was our problem. Incapable of solving 5 people, at 23 and 20 minutes of the night, raining and not knowing Oaxaca, we had to deambulate until we found another hotel, cheaper and cosy, amazing but certain We hope you will take a letter on the matter, we have sentiment misleaded, after confirmation by booking by e-mail A hello Jorge, attached photos
Majagua Hotel Boutique -Adults Only

This is a beautiful boutique hotel in Oaxaca Centro, a 5 minute walk from the main Plaza Santo Domingo and the best restaurants in Oaxaca City. It's a small hotel with only a few rooms, but the service is that of a luxury hotel! The staff was so attentive and helpful. The rooms are modern and thoughtfully designed with lovely linens and amenities. Breakfast is included which is simple but lovely. They offer you a welcome drink at the rooftop terrace, which is perfect for a cocktail before dinner or a comfortable place to read or work remotely. Andres was the best! Just a note that the water can take a while to heat up for the shower, but this is common for Oaxaca.

We are a group of 17 staying here. Myself in room #311 which is a spacious junior suite. Rooms are OK, except wash basin is not really suitable for a room, rather, a restaurant. Troubles came when I overheard my friend’s laundry was missing an item. Then I quickly checked my laundry and true enough, 1 item is also missing. Right that very night I rushed to the concierge and apparently as it was a shirt, they put it on a hanger, instead of folded. Room #312 trousers were mixed up with other rooms’s trousers, luckily they were from our own group. Could you imagine if your clothes got mixed up with guests who had checked out and didn’t examine the laundry like I hadn’t? Another friend’s laundry got charged over $300 pesos for only 3 pieces. After recalculating then he only needs to pay <$50. What happened was that the receptionist charged other groups’ bill to my friend’s! Wifi was also weak and keeps disconnecting. I had to request another wifi password because mine wasn’t working despite numerous attempts, which of course was frustrating. So despite having a spacious room with 2 desks and two chairs, don’t expect to be able to conduct some meaningful work as wifi is unreliable. We chose this hotel as it is located just outside city center so to avoid heavy traffic. But this hotel really barely operates at minimum standards.

Nice location, nice breakfast, clean, well maintained, The reception staff is not particularly friendly, just barely ok, not showing any of the Mexican manners and grace for which the country is famous, not a sign of even simple friendliness. The cleaning staff is nice and you can ask them at specific times to clean your room. Taxis come quickly if you need one, The majority of guests are Mexicans, feel free to practice your Spanish. My major complaint is that it was our fourth visit at this hotel and as Platinum members we were expecting an upgrade during at least one of these four visits, but they simply do not do upgrades. These bigger rooms, with balconies, stand perennially empty. Maybe they are ”reserved” by someone influential who wants access anytime? It is a mystery that should be cleared by the IHG hotels group. Have these people ever given an upgrade to anybody? I doubt it. For our next visit, since we don't approve of dishonest behavior and lack of transparency, we choose choose a different hotel.

The hotel is fine in that it is clean, and the AC blows cold. It's pretty straight forward in that regard, but it has no character, coffee is made from a syrup, the breakfast is merely edible, and it's situated at the extreme north end of the Colonial District. There is a decent restaurant call XOXO located just around the corner, but they're only open in the evenings from 3:00pm to 10:00pm. Still, XOXO is recommended, especially to avoid having to walk too much at night for a good meal. The restaurant can be seen looking SE from the backside of the hotel.
