Occidental Nuevo Vallarta

I am giving this hotel a score of four due to our personal experience overall. At the beginning we honestly had a bad experience, but I noticed a drastic change in a positive way throughout the hotel after talking to regional manager, Mr. Alberto Rodriguez. He salvaged our vacation, I thank him for that. The experience after his involvement turned our experience from 0 stars to 5 stars. Pros: * Los Olivos restaurant * Mariachi restaurant * Great response when there is a complaint * Beautiful beach * Kid's club staff * Lobby bar staff * Friday night activities * Good location (close to hospital and shopping center) Cons * Small kid's pool * Customer service (with some exceptions) * Additional fees for late check-out and room service (unusual for all-inclusive) * No smoking restriction enforced (a lot of people smoking in pool area) * Only boogie boards are free to check-out, everything else has additional fee * Restaurant reservations are difficult to get Recommendations: * If you are taking kid's bring their tablets, pool and beach toys (anything that will keep them entertained after 5pm when kid'sclub closes) * Make restaurant reservations on day one (they close at 4pm) * Take cash for tips (to thank good service) * Email if you have any problems, they don't really help when you try to speak in person Thanks to Mr. Alberto Rodriguez, Adriana in the kids club, Sr. Carlos and Sr. Rene & everyone in the lobby bar, Sr. Manuel in Los Olovos, Sr. Irving in the buffet, Sr. Villa in Mariachi, Sr. Martin in valet, & everyone in the Royal level & pool bar area.
Marival Distinct Luxury Residences & World Spa All Inclusive

Such a nice experience, especially for an all inclusive resort. It wasn’t overly crowded and there were always spots by the pool and beach. We never had to wait to eat at any of the amazing restaurants. The food and drinks were amazing as was the service, specifically Elian at the pool. I hate going the same place twice, but I’m looking forward to returning with my family soon!

second week of March - for us, perfect weather. The hotel is popular with Mexican families on vacation, which for us, added to the value of our Mexican vacation. Lots of cleaning going on here, all the time - our suite and the resort was always near spotless. Staff were terrific, all the time. Right on a beautiful sandy beach, and lots of it. Must eat or do take-out from Eddie's, a well-priced excellent restaurant a short walk away. Catch the high-quality Saturday market also a short walk away, and the much larger Tuesday market using the 25 peso water taxi beside Eddie's. Located in Nuevo Vallarta which adjoins Puerto Vallarta, meaning you take a taxi, uber or city bus from the hotel to PV, which is where most of the tourist action takes place - ask for the Malecon, the downtown beach ***** where tourists will get anything and everything they want, as well as the Saturday market downtown, the largest market in the area. Taxis are not expensive, and ubers are somewhat cheaper, but the buses and colectivos are much, much cheaper, as is typical of Mexico. It's a bit of an adventure to figure out the public transportation here, and you'll meet lots of locals whose english is only 'un pocito', but for us it was definitely worthwhile, as we got out a lot. And mucho gracias to Raul at reception who worked through some booking issues to permit us to lengthen our stay in the suite we started out in - 2606, which I highly recommend for its lovely balcony, kitchen and ocean views.
Hotel Boutique Marina Banderas Suites

We needed a place to stay for an overnight before checking into our booked Resort. Found the Marina Banderas Hotel Boutique & Suites, located right on the Nuevo Vallarta marina. Wonderful boutique hotel. Very quiet. And, the service was superb. As well, there were a bevy of restaurants/bars that were easy to walk to all-around the marina area. Oh, yeah! The king size bed was fantastic. Extremely comfortable. I would recommend the Marina Banderas Suites to anyone who needs a good overnight stay; or, even, a long weekend. Very well located in Nuevo Vallarta.
