Mjejane River Lodge

The most amazing experience. We saw 4 out of 5 from the big 5 and saw hippo’s/ elephants in the river from our balcony. Our guide Elliot did everything he could to let us see every animal and knew so much about it. He was amazing! I hope the company knows how good he is. He made our experience so much better. We really loved everything about mjejane river lodge. Thank you all so much!

The staff are so eager to give the guests a great experience but the Lodge falls short in so many ways. The rooms need alot of work, old furnishings, torn mosquito nets, black tiles not cleaned properly one can smell the shower drain, the buffet is so limited and lacks creativity/freshness. As a vegan I had nothing to eat. Breakfast is the same thing everyday. The juices are diluted concentrates. I was so disappointed as this lodge promised a 5 star experience and the cost is up there. The gardens are not maintained. The chairs in the pool have rusted legs posing toxicity to children swimming.

We stayed a family of five. There are great things to say about the lodge: 1) we had our own game drives 2) good service 3) good food 4) great view of the river (we saw hippos, kudu and elephants from the dining area) 5) we saw a great many animals (only leopard from the big five we didn’t see) On improvement points, I’d say the rooms feel a bit dark and worn. This could easily be improved though. Price is ok vs. in Kruger alternatives. But still a lot to pay when the rooms are a bit worn. All in all, we were happy to come here and have all from food to game drives in one place 😊.

Mjejane River Lodge was recommended by our Travel agent, and it did not disappoint. My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon and every member of staff made us feel so special. Our room was decorated with rose petals, candles and a bottle of wine with glasses. (Unfortunately we don’t drink wine but the sentiment was appreciated.) Our luxury room was kept so clean and the nets around the bed were lowered every evening to keep the bugs away. The food was delicious and plentiful, excellent choice for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Drinks are not included but very reasonably priced. Everything is added to your room bill and paid for at the end of your stay. Morning and evening game drives are included. Our drivers William and Gilman were very knowledgeable, ask them any question on any animal or bird and they have the answer. They found the Big 5 for us which was amazing but also so many more species to look out for. My particular favourite was spotting a small bush baby in a tree on our dawn drive. Between drives you can chill around the pool area in the sunshine overlooking crocodile river with a dip in the pool. The staff are happy to keep the drinks flowing. Our biggest regret is that we didn’t take a pair of binoculars. These next time are essential. Thank you so much to Johan for picking us up from the airport and dropping us back off at the end of our stay. You and your staff are exceptional. We can’t wait to return.

Best Safari Guide to date... Although my review comes somewhat belatedly, the impact of Mthunzi's expertise and dedication remains vivid in my memory. My safari experience under his guidance was nothing short of extraordinary. Mthunzi's unparalleled knowledge of the wildlife, particularly his mastery of bird identification, set him apart as a truly exceptional guide. Mthunzi's passion for the natural world was contagious, and his ability to share insights about the diverse bird species and wildlife in the Kruger Park was truly impressive. His enthusiasm not only enhanced the overall safari experience but also deepened my understanding and appreciation of the rich biodiversity within the park. Mthunzi has unique luck or knowledge to get viewings of wildlife within Kruger with no one around to disturb your sighting. Furthermore, Mthunzi's professionalism and his ability to command the respect of his peers and other Kruger Park staff were evident throughout our week. His rapport with fellow rangers showcased not only his proficiency in the field but also his commi**ent to maintaining a harmonious and collaborative environment. It is a rare find to encounter someone with such superior bird knowledge, and Mthunzi's expertise has set a benchmark that will be hard to surpass. I genuinely believe that his passion for wildlife and his outstanding guiding skills make him an invaluable asset to your holiday. Loved staying here for three days. I went there with my parents and they too loved the place. The game drives are awesome, and our driver was knowledgeable and he took extra care to show us the big 5 in two days. The lodge is situated just opposite the Mjejane River and it's a pleasant view from the lodge. We could see hippos in the river and lots of birds flying around. We booked the hotel with three meals and the food was delicious. Just one thing, they don't give free water or any drinks. We don't drink alcohol so we had to buy water, and they charged a lot for a small bottle of water. However, they made breakfast for us at 7:30 am just because we had a flight to catch. Overall, it was a nice experience.

Highly recommend Mjejane, everyone was so friendly and welcoming, the food was excellent, it's very clean, and Gilmon in particular made the game drives so much fun each time. We would go back there anytime!

An African gem that is painfully overlooked. It had the river views that were full of elephants. Sharing the abundant game with the Kruger Park - no boundaries - enhances the Safari experience. Rooms, Food, Service - The Team did everything to make it a perfect stay. Guide December was exceptional - Very informative & Humorous. We had a wonderful 4 days at the Lodge. The accommodation was comfortable and well furnished with doors opening onto a private seating area overlooking the crocodile river. Safaris are 6am and 3.30pm everyday. We saw everything we wanted and more on every safari. Our ranger Gilmon was brilliant, so patient and knowledgeable. He stopped and explained at every sighting letting us take many photos and just enjoy the sighting. It was also lovely being on the jeep with other couples, sharing experiences and taking photos to share. The early morning cup of tea and biscuit and the choice of drink and snack pack at sundown just added to the incredible experience. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were both plentiful and tasty. So much choice at every meal and as much as you could eat. Sitting eating overlooking the crocodile river where elephants play, hippos grunt and warthogs eat the grass and drink from the swimming pool is an experience not to miss. All the staff were welcoming, friendly and happy making the whole experience memorable. Our ranger Gilmon was the star of the show.
