Holiday Inn Express Staten Island West, an IHG Hotel

New York|2.27km from Raymour & Flanigan Furniture and Mattress Store
We stayed in February of 2023, having traveled back to our home town from out of state for my adult daughter's birthday. I was reminded because my husband asked if we were going back this year - and warned me against booking this hotel ever again. I booked it because I'm a Marriott Bonvoy member, and because the Hilton on South Avenue was all booked up for a wedding. I know the area, but didn't connect the address with the actual location until I got there. That was my mistake. The hotel itself ... isn't completely horrible. That's about the best endor*****t I could give it. It's a bit shabby, with worn carpet and upholstery, and a burn on the sink (non-smoking hotel?). But Staten Island is out of the way, and I know from experience there are worse places in that town. Even so - Marriott considers this a 3-star property, and it just isn't; it's a solid 2, so know what you're getting into. In 2021, there was an SNL skit with Billie Eilish called ”Hotel Ad.” It might have been written for this place. Here's a pertinent line: ”Situated between the DMV and a darkened Sonic, it’s the location that will make your Uber driver say, 'You’re sure?' ” It's literally like that. The hotel is behind a defunct ***** mall that even the DMV abandoned, and right next to the highway. The highway is the good part; you won't have to drive around to find it. Considering the ghost town vibe, the price is frankly hilarious, and reflects what you might call a ”Hey, it's inside NYC City Limits” premium. The same dates this year are going for the same price over at the Hilton, and South Avenue, while not exactly walkable, at least isn't scary. I say this as a native. Really, don't stay there.

Insignia Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection

Stayed in Insignia as renovations were being done in my apartment near by. Its a small hotel with 5 floors and 87 rooms, king rooms face the front and queen face the back. My room was on the 5th floor facing the back and looking down on the limited space parking lot. You must request a refrigerator as they are based on availability. There isn't much space around the Queen bed so it makes it tight. There is no iron or ironing board if you do need one in the room. The customer service definitely is different with who is at the front desk. I only have dealt with an Asian man who is very helpful, kind and greets you everytime. My husband dealt with a women who was rude. Parking as mentioned is in a limited space parking lot and is $29 a night. It does have in and our privileges but you can definitely find a spot on the block. I would recommend this hotel for a very short stay like a night or two just because the type of guest here can give it a bad name. Smoking is not permitted, however you smell **** throughout the floors. Only plus is that it is a updated hotel which was built in 2018 so you have the LCD TV on the wall mount and a nicely built bathroom with Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash in the shower already with a pump to be used.

The room is nice, the breakfast is very good, there is a slight subway noise, which I can accept. It is very convenient to take the subway line D to Manhattan. It is also close to Eighth Avenue. There are Chinese restaurants within a few steps. I will stay here next time. I booked it on Ctrip Regarding the room, Ctrip was also very responsible and arranged everything accordingly.

Everything is fine. The location is convenient, 20 minutes by subway to Manhattan, an hour from the airport by public transport. The internet was bad. Not very clean rooms.

My room had a nice view. I originally booked it for four nights, but I couldn't check in due to something unexpected. I applied for a refund and the hotel agreed. But one thing that made me very angry at the time was that the staff didn't lock the door for me after house keeping was completed. I went out at noon and came back at three o'clock in the morning. There was no theft or anything like that. The ice machine was right at the door of my room. There are so many people coming and going that it makes me scared just thinking about it!

The room is clean and tidy, and the service staff are friendly. When I checked in, I gave a room that hadn't been cleaned by mistake, but immediately adjusted and apologized after communication. Meals are not very convenient, except that breakfast is served, others have to rely on takeaway.
