The Grand Hotel Nanaimo

The Grand Hotel Nanaimo

Nanaimo|8.21km from downtown
There’s no denying that this hotel needs an update and all the junk clearing out the reception area. It is dated and at first sight, it puts you off staying there. You cannot say that the receptionists are unfriendly, it’s just they don’t engage with their clients and the result is that they do not seem welcoming. The rooms are dated too, microwaves stacked on top of fridges that can trip the fuses and “black out” your room. The ensuite looks and feels old with noisy inefficient extract fans. On the plus side, the beds are very comfortable, well serviced and clean as are the rooms but that dated look detracts and the lighting is dire. Dire too is the heating and AC, grossly inefficient and virtually uncontrollable. There are minimal supplies in the room but the coffee machine delivers really good coffee. No kettle but reception have one on request. The restaurant food is very good but throughout our week in the hotel, it always had few customers. I suspect the reason for that is that it is very expensive as are the wines and drinks. Too expensive by far for such an establishment and whilst the food was very good, it was not of high enough standard to demand these prices. I would have liked to dine there more often but there are good less expensive restaurants a short drive away and many bar restaurants a short walk over the road. Would I go back again? Well, yes but it would be a bed for the night only. I think they are missing a trick here at many levels or they are not interested in making this establishment better. It has so much potential, such a shame.

Quality Inn

Nanaimo|0.38km from downtown
We booked the Quality Inn Nanaimo for our stopover stay on the Island. This hotel is very new and the deco is modern and bright. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Our check-in wasn’t smooth and took us much longer than anticipated as the staff encountered technical issues. We didn’t get to sign on the official registration but a paper with check-in details written by hand. Our room was located on the 3rd floor over looking the parking lot of an low-rise office building. The size of the guest room is spacious and the bathroom is bright and clean. Unlike other Quality Inns, this one doesn’t offer continental breakfast in the morning and there isn’t any breakfast eateries within walking distance. The hotel offers free all day coffee and tea in the lobby but it wasn’t appealing as the station seemed messy and dirty. Besides, the hotel offers free gated parking for their guests but the spots is limited. There are just around 20 spots in total and is on a first-come-first-serve basis. We ended up walking to the dinner restaurant as we don’t want to lose our spot when we come back later in the evening. In the lobby, there is a small room that serves alcohol and chicken wings starting from 5pm. Although they played loud music trying to create a bar atmosphere, the setup of the space is much more like a breakfast room/cafe. We didn’t eat or drink there. Overall, it is a good hotel to stay if you are in the Nanaimo area.

Skylite Motel
4.1/569 Reviews
We were delighted with this motel. Beds were comfortable and the room felt spacious. Very clean. Staff were very kind and caring. We had to cut our trip short due to an ill relative. We forgot our Iphone charger. Without any extra charge ( only the cost of mailing the package) they sent us the charger. Thanks so much for your kindness.
Inn on Long Lake
4.2/598 Reviews
This hotel is a bit biased on Victoria Island. If it is not self-driving, it is very inconvenient. The hotel is relatively new. The facilities are relatively complete. There are hot springs. Facing a small lake, it was quite peaceful. There is a kitchen, but we don’t have time to cook by ourselves. The breakfast at the hotel is good, you can make your own waffles. Did not see the Chinese. Because there was only a foreign couple who went to the hot springs late. There is free parking.
Diplomat Motel

Great, the room is a small suite, clean and comfortable, the boss is not bad, the main thing is that the credit card does not have to pay the deposit, because the foreign credit card refund is more than two weeks, so like
Crown Mansion Boutique Hotel & Villas
4.4/530 Reviews
My husband and I really enjoyed our three night stay at the lovely and historic Crown Mansion Boutique Hotel in Qualicum Beach. Our tastefully decorated and comfortable one bedroom villa had two bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a private veranda. It was so peaceful and relaxing at the hotel with beautifully landscaped grounds backing on to a 50 acre Heritage Old Growth Forest. We spent an hour walking on the trails through the spectacular park. One night we even saw a pair of deer grazing on the lush grass in front of our villa. Dinner at the Sapphire Room at the hotel was first rate all around with a delicious meal, great service and ambiance. We will definitely return to this very special and unique inn.
Sea Edge Motel
4.3/599 Reviews
The Sea Edge is right on the beach, steps away from everything you need, and the view is UNREAL. You can’t get a better location for the price. The staff was accommodating, Eileen was amazing. This will be our go-to Parksville motel going forward.
