We had two teams, about 20 families, that stayed here for the MLK VB tourney held at the convention center (an easy 3 block walk). The hotel was clean and quiet, an important factor when trying to get good rest as athletes. Housekeeping was offered daily. I appreciated the number of towels available in the room, as well as the quality! We ordered from the on-site restaurant and the food was good with decent pricing, comparable to restaurants nearby. No complimentary brkfst. Hotel offered valet parking for $28/day, or there was a $10 garage just around the corner, and another for $18 the opposite direction. The hardest issue we encountered was finding a place to actually park/pull up to unload bags just to check in when we first arrived. Same for check out. Hotel is on a street corner w zero designated hotel parking. Ultimately, I would recommend this hotel and I’d stay here again.

I booked this hotel as I have not stayed here previously and wanted to try it out. The GM Jeff checked us in and noted that we have been upgraded in our room, though it appeared to be in the room I booked online. He told us that to get to our room, we should go outside to the parking garage elevators, go to the fourth floor, cross over to other elevators to get to the sixth floor where our room was located. We were surprised by this, and soon realized that if we just take the elevator right by our room straight down, we were at the elevators right next to the lobby, where we were checked in. Why we were given these bizarre directions, we have no idea. When going to bed, we noticed that there was dried blood on one of the pillowcases, along with an old stain on the comforter. We got rid of those and called the front desk to let them know about this. In their embarrassment, they comped us one night. The concierge service was OK but on the day of discharge after texting in the morning about extending the checkout time, I texted about getting help for getting our bags to our car and never got a response, so I contacted the front desk myself. A disappointing and gross experience and not really sure this hotel is worth the value that is placed on it. No idea why the GM gave these odd directions; is it so we don’t come back again?

After a grueling ordeal of being transferred between hotels through a Third Party I ended up at the Candlewood suites in Lenexa Kansas . The night front desk was courteous and got me into a room quickly. When the next shift came on i became introduced to Preston, the overnight desk clerk. I had several issues with the third party I had been using for years . Preston was able to explain the choices I had and gave me information to relate to the third party. Preston was correct and was patient with me as I had to check in and out several times . I travel weekly as part of my job and his customer service was above anything I’ve received in years. We stayed here on January 5. The property itself was very nice—large rooms, comfortable beds, good breakfast. Our problem was dog-related. We checked in around 8 p.m. and went to our room to be immediately met with the consistent barking of a large dog in the adjacent room. We immediately called the desk and asked for another room. They didn’t have any other king rooms so the lady at the desk said she would come down and take a look. My husband waited for a few minutes then went up to the lobby when he didn’t see her. There was a steady stream of people checking in and the desk attendant was completely alone. My husband talked to her briefly and she called the room where the dog was, but of course, no one answered. She tried to move us to a room with 2 queens, but said she couldn’t register us to a different room because we had booked the room through AAA and the system wouldn’t allow her to make us keys. Eventually, she was able to call someone who told her just to take us to a room and let us in. To make things worse, the lady at the desk had a disability and walked with a walker. We felt terrible that she had to walk us to our room. We couldn’t believe there wasn’t a manager or security person who could have helped out. At some point during the night, they figured out how to make us keys and put them under our door. While my husband was in the lobby, another man came to the desk and said he needed another room because there was dog poop on the floor of his room. We’re okay with people travelling with their dogs, but this hotel obviously had some issues.

Many of the original details remain, including the walnut paneling, intricate metalwork, 20-story mail chute, Art Deco light fixtures and a gilded winged statue of the goddess Dawn.

I was close to changing hotels prior to staying based on poor reviews, but decided because of the location we could deal with any issues that may have been unsatisfactory. Good thing we kept our reservations here as their wasn't anything unsatisfactory about the trip. The front desk team was very nice and quick to get more towels or anything needed. The Shower was amazing which consistently stayed hot and high water pressure for 4 of us to use back to back. The location is very convenient to all of the downtown activities. They have a shuffleboard table in the lobby that we played often. We went to the PS Speakeasy in the basement of the hotel that was nice. The Restaurant located on site was easy to get drinks at. Valet parking is $30-$35, but we self parked at the garage next door for $18 and easy to get to. The only comment I would make is I wish they had a pantry as we had $30 F&B credit per day, but did not get to use a days worth based on our flight schedule, it would have been nice to use it.

We were so surprised! Very nice hotel, nicer than higher class brands we have stayed at lately! CLEAN, updated, good breakfast. CLOSE to Arena, convenience wins it out. Rooms were dark, bed not the most comfortable (but clean is what matters!), not much for seating. One desk chair, otherwise just the beds, small window but overall highly recommend! Staff very nice. I would recommend to the company, a luggage holder for the room. Yes there was a large closet, and a long counter/bench to set your luggage on, however there was nothing by the bathroom. We were traveling with our kids, so I had to keep my bag in the middle of the room, after getting out of the shower I had to walk into the room to get all my stuff. I thought if only I had something to put my luggage on right outside the bathroom. None of these ”complaints” would warrant losing a start though.
