Hôtel 20 Degrés Sud - Relais & Châteaux

Rats in restaurant On arrival the hotel is really beautiful - a small oasis tucked away with gorgeous colonial style. The reception staff were really lovely and made us feel welcome. The room was really nice - but there were a few things we noticed (which we let slide at the start) - massive dirty lipstick mark on one of our water glasses, filthy lampshades above the bathroom sinks, bed linen that didn’t feel particularly fresh and the robes as well had a slight greyish colour rather than bright white which they were meant to be. These were all minor things at the start which we didn’t even mention to each other but did notice. We then had our first night at the cocktail bar where our drink was served by the lovely barman (very polite and smily) - as we were drinking we saw a huge rat run across the terrace - we decided it was an island and maybe this is normal (although we really weren’t happy about it). We then were dining within the restaurant and again a huge rat was running towards the table. For us, this is not ok. We asked to move tables as we saw a rat and the waiters barely acknowledged it - didn’t offer any apology and then proceeded to avoid our table for the rest of the night. We informed the manager the next day who assured us he was aware and the rat had been caught, and to “give it a chance”. We weren’t offered so much as a complimentary drink. After dining in the restaurant again the second night and again seeing a rat - for us it was time to check out. Not only is it unpleasant seeing rodents running around while eating but I would say it’s a hygiene issue and makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen and the safety of the food. The only concession we were offered was to not pay for the remaining nights that we would not be staying for. Really disappointing. On hindsight some things we would add about the whole experience: - Not a 5 star in terms of food, service or cleanliness - Staff really hit and miss - some very friendly some really rude and unhelpful - Rooms didn’t feel clean - Food was average - nothing felt fresh including breakfast - Quite stingey with water - water not replaced within our room (had to ask for it) We are now staying at a different hotel and haven’t seen one rat, so don’t think this is “just an island thing” as the manager stated. The service and food are also worlds apart which has really solidified that our review of 20 degres sud as completely justified - not a 5 star experience whatsoever.

There is nothing to say about the facilities and services of a six-star hotel. I was especially surprised that Yash, the manager who provided Mandarin service, was not Chinese. Thanks to Yash for helping us book the floating restaurant, it was a very special experience. If your English is not good enough, you can tell any waiter in the hotel that you are looking for Yash, and it will be OK. And I like the view from room 87 very much.

5 ⭐️ - What an amazing place. It was our first time visiting Mauritius and opted for Paradise Cove hotel after reading many reviews. This hotel is wonderful with very friendly and attentive staff. They really take care of you and will help you whenever. Whether big or small, they are ready to see what is possible. All of them go the extra mile and beyond. We visited end of May - beginning of June and it was great. Weather was overall good with a shower here and there. The hotel has 3 pools available with 1 nice lap pool of +- 15 meters for anyone that wants to work out. The food is next level. 🔥 Dinner can either be a la carte or buffet which makes it extra special. They offer fixed 4-5 course menus (as part of your stay) and you really feel like your in a restaurant fine dining. The chef and staff are amazing and the food is beautifully served. Paradise Cove has an all-in option, but I think it depends on the type of person you are whether this makes sense to take or not. For us, since we drink almost no alcohol whatsoever, it didn’t make sense. But if you fancy a couple of cocktails each day, which look excellent, it will be worth it. Paradise Cove is located in the north and there is no direct access to a beach. Keep that in mind. They have a small bay/ cove which has sea access and that was more than enough for us. You wifi access in the resort and it is relatively stable. You can spot the extenders from time to time if you strategically place yourself you can get a tan and stream something at the same time. Other spots are good too ofcourse 😁 We could have easily stayed here the full 10 days without lifting out butts but Mauritius is such a beautiful country so please do go out, arrange a taxi and explore. We will definitely come back.

Trou Aux Biches
Note: we stayed in July 2022, not November! We loved it at Easy Stay! After a short trip to the East coast we decided to head back to Trou aux Biches. While searching for accommodation we found this little gem! Located almost beachfront with huge rooms and a huge balcony. The breakfast is a local breakfast which is prepared and served freshly. The staff is so friendly and loving and welcoming that we were really really sad when we had to leave after one week! This was the best place we stayed at, mainly thanks to the staff. The interior of the rooms was not our taste and the „kitchenette“ was not really kitchen, but a counter and a fridge. You can’t cook there. Otherwise you have a great view from the first floor and can watch the sunset from your own balcony. We loved it there and I will happily recommend this place to anyone who wants to go to Trou aux Biches!! We miss the lovely ladies working there!!!

I am currently staying as part of a two week holiday with my wife. Customer Service - this is what the hotel thrives and excels in. The staff across all hotel amenities are first class. On arrival, the reception staff are welcoming, and this theme is mirrored throughout the length of your stay, The hotel is located in the NE of the island over 1 hr from airport and is ideally situated for those individuals looking for a more quiet time. There is plenty to do from the boathouse which caters to all your water sports to its own 9 hole golf course, you won't be stuck. The hotel is spotlessly clean, Rooms are spacious, modern, and well equipped. Pool area is fantastic and the beach is an arms length away. Food - could be improved and why this is not a 5 star review. The food can be somewhat repetitive, particularly breakfast and dinner. Each night has an international themed menu. However, the same dishes do transcend across each night. There are various dining options available across the resort that can also be booked Although all staff deserve acknowledgement, special mentions to Shiel and Adrash in reception. Linesh, Innesh, Josh, and Suhil in the bar, Vinod, Porvashi in the restaurant, nothing is too much trouble, and they do go the extra mile in ensuring your every need is catered for. Would definitely recommend.
