Really no point in commenting as the hotel is sadly closing this month. I would like to thank the staff for a creating a lovely and friendly atmosphere and we can see that the hotel will be much missed by loyal guests and the local community. Thank you, Paula, for serving our breakfast every day of our stay and for our daily chats. We wish all at Gliffaes the very best and very much hope that the hotel will be back in the future...it's a special place.

So glad I selected this hotel to stay in Brecon Area. It sits in a delightful wooded valley of the River Usk, with lovely views from the hotel terrace. The historic Hotel is just perfect for a country house retreat and is full of charm, with great resident reception rooms to chill out in and attractive conservatory. The quality of food was very high, beautifully presented, bedrooms comfortable, but the best was the exceptional customer service. It was just a great HOTEL.

We broke our journey home and stayed just one night with the intention of sampling the hotel for future reference. We were not disappointed, staff very attentive, our bedroom was excellent, well equipped, bathroom small but we prefer showers so suited us. The hotel is very well furnished and many quiet places to relax and in good weather, which we were lucky to have, the outside terrace with views of the river and arboretum were magical. For us the dining experience was worth visiting for this alone. A well balanced menu and very good wine list with prices to suit all. Sadly we learn that the hotel has been sold and closes in September so for us we can only hope it will continue as a hotel and operate as efficiently and in such capable hands as the current owners.

I bring a group of clients to Gliffaes every year for a cycling event. The Gliffaes team is always welcoming. The food is excellent. You cannot beat a drink on the terrace with spectacular views or the afternoon tea which is homemade and delicious. Very highly recommended.

I booked afternoon tea at Gliffaes with two friends having worked there as a receptionist over 40 years ago. What a trip down memory lane. Obviously there have been changes over the years but the ambience of Gliffaes is still the same - welcoming, friendly, relaxed and homely. The tea was served in the conservatory which was very comfortable, the service very attentive - nothing was too much trouble - and the food delicious (and we were offered doggie bags for what we couldn't eat!) With time spent walking round the stunning grounds it was a perfect afternoon.

This was our second visit. This hotel and it's surroundings are beautiful. The service was outstanding and the catering for vegans was excellent. The food was delicious and our room was lovely. We will definitely stay again.

Just returned from 3 glorious days at Gliffaes. Storm Eunice delayed us but fortunately we could add a day at the end. As usual, the welcome was warm and friendly immediately we walked through the door. Rain and wind on the second day was met with log fires, excellent food, good wines and staff that were on hand to ensure our needs were met. Storm Franklin then arrived and decided to cut all power off during the evening. Unperturbed the chef and his team provided a lovely cold buffet that met the dietary needs of all guests. Fires were stoked up and candles lit giving a very romantic feel. We couldn't fault the evening and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the other guests. If you need an authentic retreat with owners and staff who know just how to provide a warm, relaxing ambiance Gliffaes is for you. We've never been disappointed and we should know, having been visiting for 35 years. Thank you James, Suzie and all your team.

Visited Gliffaes for a light lunch on a weekday and was thoroughly impressed. From the location and the setting to the food itself as well as the staff. Such a tranquil location that we would highly recommend. The hotel itself has an air of the Overlook hotel in terms of the location and setting and gladly that’s where the similarities end!

Shocked in these times your attitude to none welcome of dogs inside your hotel...’kennels’ or ‘mostly happy to sleep in cars’! Was seriously considering to book until your stern unwelcome note. Not attractive these days. Had to put down a travel date to complete review but clearly we would not have been welcome.
