Parador de Limpias

The hotel is excellent as was the restaurant food. Our suite was really lovely. What let the hotel down was the very poor service in the main lounge; we (and others) waited for well over an hour for an order to be taken for food and drink. This was entirely due to only one member of staff taking orders and delivering the food and drinks. It was so bad that the receptionist lent a hand. Not good enough for an hotel of this calibre.

In the outskirts of a tiny town is this old palace with a modern wing too. A magnificent entrance hall and very attractive dining room make it special. The roms are comfortable and clean, the surrounding gardens and magnificent trees provide a tranquil haven after fighting on the roads in Spain! There are tennis and padel courts ad a pool, a pretty town to stroll round, and above all a wonderful riverside walk for several kilometres. It is a pleasure to return to this Parador year after year, where the welcome is warm and the food very good.

Our arrival at the Parador Limpias was everything we expected. A nice building with a grandeur fit for a king. After check in, we enjoyed sitting at the lounge with a glass of complimentary Cava. The very large bedroom with lots of wooden cabinets and an impressive polished wooden floor enhanced the experience. The marble bathroom fitted well into the experience. Staff were efficient and we appreciated the wonderful breakfast with its a la carte options. So, our stay could have been wonderful. Unfortunately, there were too many issues that spoiled the experience. Once we started using the bathroom, strange noises and an unpleasant odor emerged from the plumbing. When alerted to the problem, the receptionist did not seem surprised and he promised to alert the technical department. Its staff dutifully arrived but with a can with refreshment spray as the only solution. Late evening and early morning, the guests upstairs got to pacing across their room on hard soled shoes. Suddenly, the wooden floor was not so attractive any more. And finally (was it because we stayed there on a Sunday night), the dishes served for dinner were very disappointing. I have rated our stay 3 stars out of 5. A shame, it could easily have been so much better.

We've stayed here twice this year and in previous years on our way home before catching the ferry from Santander. Its a lovely comfortable hotel with spacious rooms and a good restaurant The service is excellent and sitting out on the terrace with a drink after a day on the road is a great way to start the last night in Spain

A very good hotel - located up a long private drive a little distance away from Limpias. Facilities were very good, and we were surprised at the quality of the dining. The rooms, etc. were as you would expect - good quality, well equipped in the Parador fashion! It provides an excellent base to catch the ferry from Bilbao or Santander, but the surrounding area makes it well worth a visit in its own right.

The hotel and its grounds are beautiful. Unfortunately, our stay was ruined by terrible staff conduct. We were met by a rude receptionist on arrival (blonde hair female). Upon entering our room we couldn't find a kettle or tea/coffee facilities, which is unusual for a 4* hotel. Having asked back at reception we were told they don't do it for rooms that don't pay enough, and too bad! Not only is this an extremely poor and cost cutting approach, but it would take such little effort to make things right, e.g. Offer a complimentary hot drink?! Unfortunately this approach runs deep in this hotel. The bare minimum. They just don't care. At dinner, we were brought the wrong dish entirely (firstly dangerous towards guests with intolerances and allergies) but the staff again just did not care and after 20 minutes offered to return the correct dish, lukewarm. This is the BARE MINIMUM of service recovery. No attempt to make things right or leave the guest with any sense that they care at all. You will find all staff seem to be trained in not caring here, housekeeping staff will not share a pleasant Good morning, but will instead barge past you in the corridor. Gym facilities were out of order and unavailable. That same receptionist coughed on us at check-out to top it off. The staff and service ruin this hotel to the core. I will share one redeeming factor. A junior staff member names Frida Martin was the only individual who knows how to look after guests. Wanting to be conversational, asking about our stay and eager to go the extra mile. My biggest fear is her talents are wasted here. Alone, she would make a better manager to the hotel than the current team which is running the property into an early grave by driving away guests with poor service. We certainly won't be returning, and FYI, it is common for kettles in the room across Europe, even in budget brands such as ibis. Get a grip or go bust! An embarrassment to the Paradores brand.

We spent two nights here in late September, and it fell well short of standards set by other paradors. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived, the main drive was blocked by a cement mixer and the courtyard parking area looked like a building site. Some of the guests' cars were splashed with concrete and hastily hosed down by the contractors. Despite this, hotel staff were still happy to sell (at a cost of 10 Euros per day) parking spaces in that area. Restaurant service was slow and some items never came at all (we gave up waiting for coffee after dinner, and had to leave before our cooked breakfast arrived - despite waiting over half an hour). As other reviewers have mentioned, the grounds appeared in need of maintenance. We didn't use the pool as it looked as though it needed a good clean. Staff appeared extremely busy and overstretched - there simply weren't enough of them to deliver an acceptable standard of service.
