Le Chat Qui Dort

We rented the top floor 2 bedroom, 2 floor apartment for a long weekend family stay this week. We chose it as it was in the old quarter and so minutes away from scores of characterful bars, restaurants and shops in beautifully picturesque, cobbled streets. The apartment itself was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped - very pleasant indeed. We have rated 3 stars due to the difficult access that wasn’t mentioned during our search. Being an old building in the old quarter you would expect some ‘quaint’ and original features but the tiny, steep, curving, unevenly spaced wooden staircases that have wobbly handrails and missing posts are of a standard that would not pass building regulations in the UK. In an emergency situation I have no doubt at all that people would die. There are no fire doors between floors so the stairwell is basically a very steep, narrow, wooden chimney. Do not book if you have any kind of difficulty walking or if you are elderly or claustrophobic. Would we recommend? Sadly not - for all but the youngest of visitors.

Great location, great facilities, good support and information from the management The apartment we used was ground floor at the front so no stairs issue, only a little noise from footsteps above. The place has everything you need, it’s modern and clean and fully equipped. In a nice quiet street only minutes on foot to shops, restaurants and bars, exactly what we wanted. One very small downside was the sofa in the main room was a sofa bed which was not the most comfortable to sit on for our week stay but the bed was comfortable. 2 flat screen TVs, a lovely shower, and a coffee machine were just some of the very good aspects. Would recommend. Lille is a surprise for visitors. Loads to do and all on the flat but mind the cobbled streets and wear sensible shoes! Oh and the mosquitoes are a nuisance in August too but you can’t have it all

The hotel is 15-20 minutes from the city center, nice quite street. It is clean and newly remodeled but.. The second person needs to climb two steps to get to the bed. The bathroom is literally in the bedroom. There is a nice small kitchen with stove, MW, tea kettle, coffee maker and small fridge. Table for 2 and a small sofa is there. The bigger apt. are on the second flour with a small tiny curving stairs
