I booked a one night stay here for my boyfriends birthday, only to be extremely disappointed with the hotel, it appears very different to its photographs online, the room was much smaller in person, and we also expected a much nicer room as that’s what appeared most online in the photographs of the room we “booked”, with features such as unappealing fire doors in the middle of the walls, the furniture in the bedrooms very dated which can’t always be seen online (cropped out by the choice of angle) and lastly small details, for example cracks in the walls , and damaged paintwork on the ceiling. This resulted in us not wanting to actually stay here and we returned home, leaving the room untouched. Cragwood wouldn’t compensate anything for this disappointment and we have been further disappointed with customer care.

Right by the lake, there is a pier for boat rides, there is a fish and chips shop and a pet shop downstairs, buy snacks and water in advance. It is very comfortable to live here, and there is a bus stop 5 minutes away.

Stayed in the yurt for one night and I was really impressed. Log fire in there so that was cosy, beds were comfy and linen really clean. The facilities were great in the main building to games, books, vending machine, bar etc. Toilets were clean didn't need to use the shower. Great views of the lake, would 100% stay again!

Stayed at Compston House over the Easter weekend. Megan and John are very welcoming and friendly! Our room was clean, tidy and had everything you needed. We parked using the parking pass in the local car park and had no issues. The breakfast options were great and cooked nicely, not sure what they do to their hash browns but they are unreal! 5 stars just for the hash browns. Recommend going to The Priest Hole for dinner if you are staying here, it’s just up the road and incredible food!

Very good Bed & Breakfast right in the heart of Ambleside, everything you need is close by, bars / shops / restaurants. Rooms are very clean and tidy, Andy the owner is very friendly and does a lovely full English's breakfast with plenty to choose from. Guest book has some recommendations for restaurants and other activities. Will definitely be booking again soon.
