Bluebay Beach Resort & Spa

From the minute we arrived at the Hotel we immediately found the staff so accommodating and very friendly. Everybody looked after us so well nothing at all was a problem, the Hotel grounds were beautifully manicured , the main restaurant has a superb and varied buffet with a new theme night every evening with live entertainment & music by the pool. We were in a a lovely superior bedroom with a balcony with a fabulous sea view. The main Pool area was lovely with plenty of comfortable sun loungers available all around. The view onto the sea is spectacular, a truly amazing and special place. A great variety of sports were available, including paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing, water aerobics , croquet , boules & beach volleyball which we all enjoyed very much. The bar is very welcoming with a great range of drinks and super friendly staff. There is also a lovely gift shop on site with a great range of gifts & essentials. All the staff made our stay very special and we would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. A special mention goes out to: Joyce, Abbu, Gertrude, Eliza, Lizy, Fatima, and Thomas on the front desk , also Ngenim and Dass the General Manger. We will defiantly visit again one day! Thank you so much for everything Bluebay and Zanzibar for proving that paradise does exist.

Lovely beach and location with amazing turquoise water and white sand * Good variety of Food throughout stay but a bit similar over the course of two weeks Reception staff All staff welcoming and friendly Deluxe rooms are a good size with comfortable bed Sun bed Waiter service Not so good Internet access in our room was poor , not too bad elsewhere. We ended up having a network put into our room which was kind of the IT manager. Choice of AI drinks limited, white wine is rough. Only filtered coffee is available in the restaurant, if you want a nice Latte for example you have to pay for it, same if you want one in the morning or during the day. Cold plates in restaurant constantly Food not always hot Misleading restaurant situation at sister hotel ,while you can use blue bay hotel facilities it costs 10 USD per person if you want one drink there or a coffee . Normal buffet meal is 10USD and Al La Carte is pay as you go. So in effect there is only one free restaurant as part of your AI package in both hotels. Lack of Parasol availability at hotel, all gone by 7am. There are only twelve available for the whole hotel. Seven around the sandy area before the beach and five around the pool. You won’t get one around the beach area (which we thought was the nicest area) unless you’re prepared to get up at 6.45 am and reserve one. Otherwise you can ask the pool boys to reserve you one and pay them for the privilege (be bribed) when you choose to go to your sun-bed. The irony is if if you choose not to bung the pool attendants to reserve a sun bed with a parasol, there would not be the need to get up at 0645. !! After two weeks the menu seemed pretty much the same No AI facilities after 10am when checking out, you have to pay for meals and drinks. Having to dodge hawkers on the beech whenever you went on it or in the sea Mozzies can be bad in reception, I got badly bitten on my first day.

VOI Kiwengwa Resort - All Inclusive

We've stayed in VOI Kiwengwa Resort for 5 nights. PROS: - Service was great: reception, dinning area, pool area, cleaning, gardening... all of them were always kind, polite and willing to help you if you needed assistance - Nice pool CONS: - Impossible to get into the sea without being stopped by the ”Masai” people or some others. This was very annyoing. - As before, impossible to walk near the sea without being stopped / followed by the ”Masai” people. Every attempt of saying ”enough” or saying that you don't have money with you, will be ignored. Not even that, if they finally don't get anything from you, you will be insulted. - If you are not Italian, you will feel little bit displaced. Mostly 90% of the activities are focused on the italian community. In addition, if you want to join a group activity to do some sightseeing, will not be possible as it is only offered to Italian people / speakers. All in all, I regret to say that we will not visit Kiwengwa area nor VOI Kiwengwa Hotel again due to the cons mentioned before. If you are someone looking for peace and relax this will be definitely not your place. Be also aware that this is starting to be a common feeling around the island, as our local stone town guide shared with us. Looks like you need to book a hotel with private security if you are looking for some peace.
