Taj Bekal Resort & Spa, Kerala

We visited this property second time in 10 years and might visit a third time. Commute: This property is bit far from other popular Kerala locations like Alleppi etc.But spending time at this property is worth.Best way is flight Mumbai-Mangalore and then hotel cab, or train till Kasargod and then hotel cab/auto till hotel. Property: You will immediately fall in love with the lush green property, spread across acres, has access to sea as well as backwaters and is serene.If you are planning to explore places, book a day extra to just enjoy the hotel and around. Food: Best is to have their regional specialty: appam and vegetable stew/kadala curry.Breakfast spread has good options.Same with main meals. Nearby places: For the famous Kohikode chips in coconut oil, visit nearby market which is around 10 km.Anathpadmanabh swamy temple is on same direction and can be coupled.Temple dress code is not strict but best for men to visit bare chested and women in indian traditional attire.Beautiful place.The crocodile mentioned in reviews is not there now I believe.

Amazing experience. Compliments to; 1. chef Majid, who served us with delicious dosa and very polite and helpful. 2. Mr Sachin, who was our server. He was very polite, helpful and pro efficient. 3. Mr Dinesh, general manager. He looked into all our complaints and resolved everything quickly. 4. Mr Ravi, who was over all very helpful and accommodating to all our demands. Mr Sachin deserves a promotion. Our stay was amazing, food was good. (80 out of 100) Improvements can be made in food department. South Indian chef is great. Indian cuisine chef needs a lot of improvement. Italian chef also needs to be changed or improved by a lot. Chinese food was good but only on day 01. On third day, noodles were bad. Also the temperature at the restaurant is very hot. Air conditioner is either not working properly or needs a upgrade. Same goes for air conditioner in the room. Beach is ok, not great. Pool is good , room service is good Temperature at gazebo during candle light dinner is too hot, please install a portable AC there. General cleanliness around the property needs to be looked at!! Mr. Prajith our driver was very helpful and cooperative!

A nice idyllic holiday place. Lovely rooms with a swing bed in the balcony .. nice airy rooms . Lovely all Inclusive resort .. with a beach and backwaters . Taj hospitality very good as usual . Were given an early Check in since we reached by 10 am from Mumbai . Special mention of the Sadhya- traditional Kerela banana leaf meal we had plus the free high tea available near the poolside everyday .. lovely stay

Our stay at Taj Bekal was amazing. The location of the resort is just superb, it is not too far from the city and at the same time it offers a quiet and peaceful stay. The backwaters and the access to the beach is great! We did not explore the activities much, though they offer a good set. Bekal Fort is just 10 minutes drive and it offers stunning views, it is a must visit place.

Great hotel & location property should be maintained well, hygine issues . staff at the back waters cafe require more training and hotel should depute more experienced staff at the restaurant . cheff vijay at by the bay restaurant serves great food

Nice location. Close to the beach and historical Beakal Fort. The staff were courteous. The food was nice. A wide variety of breakfast items in the buffet breakfast. Although lunch and dinner are mostly a la carte, good choice were there. Very nice green ambiance.

What we thought to be the highlight of our holidays (since we visited this property 8 years ago and had a great experience then) turned out to be a disaster. Booked a premium villa for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary in Taj Bekal. Here is the experience: - Picked us up promptly from Vivanta Mangalore however despite knowing about our arrival time and knowing we were celebrating a special occasion, no one welcomed us upon arrival. After waiting at the reception, I had to ask for check in before they realised we were waiting and then checked us in. - Then after arriving in our villa, we waited for our luggage which only came after 2 calls to the reception. - Talking of premium villa, nothing has changed in the last 8 years except their rates. Despite paying for the best villa which is available, the only highlight of it is the large pool. Other than that, the room is small, cooling is less and it feels so old. It was old 8 years ago so I thought they would have upgraded it a lot but they have only increased the rates. Not worth the money at all. - Then at high tea, no service at all! - I complained all this to the highest authority person available and was promised a great stay for the rest of the time however not a single thing changed. - We had breakfast included in our rate however the first morning breakfast was again a disaster, no service and no one available to take orders from our tables. Even I called someone and that person simply ignored us. No napkins as well. No one to guide us to empty tables, you have to find and sit on your own. Absolutely chaos. We have had enough so we had just a dosa and left. - We did not do breakfast for the next 2 mornings but like I said no one cares at all. No call to check on us. You may die in your villa but they don't care. - Called for pool towels however it did not come ever. - We had a photoshoot booked which they offer as part of the activity. They don't have any slots for it (so I was told) however I had to call and remind them that I had one booked in advance to which they connected me to the photographer on site who said since it's raining let's do it tomorrow morning. Again, no one came or called us the next morning so we called again and were advised that the photographer would be there in 30 minutes. Waited 45 minutes after getting ready and after calling again was told to wait for 15 minutes again. However when no one came after wasting 90 minutes of our morning time, I finally went to the reception to wait for another 20 minutes to get the photographer to my room. The whole experience was ruined because it was so hot by then and we had to abandon the shoot. - Being hungry after all this ordeal, we called to have food but were told that no, you cannot get food except from the 24 hour menu. Thanks to Sous Chef Mr Sobin though, he took care of us like family and got us food. If not for him, I would have left the same day. - Then despite advising the front desk that we needed to

Our stay at the property was exceptional. The culinary offerings were of the highest quality, and the staff demonstrated professionalism and a cooperative spirit. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Ankit Soni for his courteous and humble demeanor throughout our stay.

The best place to stay if you visit bekal and the best in class service and food. It’s a kids friendly property in which kids enjoy a lot specially their plunge pool in the room that’s a boon for kids. Would surly visit again. The staff is very polite and helpful.
