We arrive late in the evening and had to leave early in the morning and yet they waited up for us, laid on a perfect meal and wine, and gave us an impromptu breakfast in the morning. Very understanding and very welcoming. Perfect bedrooms too. I'd love us to go back there when we've got more time.

Had a lovel stay in the very oldy worldy traditional pub in an absolutely gorgeous village. Andrew was most welcoming and as previous reviews had stated making this a local pub welcoming the community as well as guests. Although rather basic the room was a good size and spotlessly clean. Pre dinner drinks outside in the sun was lovely and the pizza was delicious. We didn't have breakfast, but it was available. A perfect location for visiting the gin distillery tour and also Winchester....Steve and Caroline..😃

We booked in here as it was close to some friends, I booked direct and it was very easy sorted. On arrival we were meet by Andrew nothing was to much trouble, we meet his wife Steph later and what a super couple trying to make a go of a lovely “old pub” in a lovely little village. Andrew cooked us a breakfast each morning which was superb, we also tried the piazzas again first class. Will use this premises again when calling on our friends, and would suggest anyone wanting somewhere close to Winchester that this is worth a visit. The rooms are large and all you would expect from a village pub. But both Andrew and Steph’s attention to their clients, makes you feel like part of of the family. Good value. Will be back

This pub has come to life since the new owners have arrived. We had our Boule club pre season supper here and it was a great evening enjoyed by all. Both the food and service were great particularly as we were over 30 people. Well done Steph and Andrew you did us proud.

The Cricketers has recently been taken over by Jay, who, as he is keen to tell you, is a painter/decorator. At the moment, he is just that. His publican skills are that he is friendly and helpful, but he needs a crash course in customer service and man management. Jay, if you're reading this, please accept our advice in the spirit in which it's meant. You need to be a landlord and a boss if you're going to make a success of that lovely pub. So, smarten yourself up, no more tatty, paint - splattered shirts! Don't swear in front of customers, especially if you've only just met them! Never, ever have an argument with your chef in public - very unprofessional!! Finally, get yourself a better alarm clock!! On the plus side, it is a great pub in a fantastic location and the room was well appointed and clean (obviously thanks to the young lady we met as we left). To be picky, there weren't enough tea bags, sachets of coffee and sugar etc. for us to have more than one cup. Also, NO BISCUITS!! Bed good but springs v creaky, bathroom great, v big. We had Room 2, which has quite a big wardrobe in it, not necessary in my opinion. Breakfast was rather average. There was no menu, just Jay asking if we wanted full English or not. We were offered "fresh" croissants, but they turned out to be frozen, finish - in - the - oven type, and they were not cooked through. Most elements of the cooked breakfast were overdone, hard eggs, both my fried and my wife's poached, incredibly hard and salty bacon, v average sausage. Baked beans were great! Get rid of the hash browns, not part of a full English, and do some mushrooms! Also, I had half a grilled tomato! What happened to the other half??? Given the location, surely it's crying out for a menu which boasts nearly all locally sourced produce. This place could be amazing, but at the moment it's just OK. Good luck, Jay.

We visited for dinner in 1/2 term, persuaded by their £1 kids menu offer. The service was really lovely, the owner made great conversation with our little one, and we felt very welcome. The food was good, a problem with my husbands meal was quickly resolved and they kindly took it off the bill. It's a great family place, and we will definitely return.

Chosen to meet a friend halfway. What a find! Quite difficult to find but lovely pub with superb customer service. Had a ploughman's which is rare these days. Huge amount of food. All delicious. Set in a pretty village. We'll worth a visit.

Four of us ate here, three had amazing ploughman lunch, several cheeses, pickles, biscuits, bread, and other items, too much to eat! I had a freshly made to order Mushroom Risotto, vegan, with vegan mozzarella. It was totally delish, hot, fluffy rice, well presented and fresh! The manager, Jay, cooked it himself and him and the staff were lovely, and friendly without being pushy. deffo going again when we visit the area.
