Sheraton Istanbul Atakoy Hotel

Excellent hotel, and in particular, your employee Sertaç Ergün took wonderful care of us; his attention and care were exceptional. The hotel was spotless, the staff were friendly, and the view was great. We'd like to thank Sertaç Ergün again for his attention.

We stayed for four nights and the room was only cleaned once. Toiletries weren't replenished. After the cleaning staff came through, some towels were even missing. Despite requesting twin beds and a non-smoking room, we were surprised upon arrival to find that our preferences hadn't been honored. We were given a smoking room that reeked of cigarettes and a double bed. When we went back to reception, they immediately changed our room. The rooms aren't very clean and are starting to show their age. The water in the shower keeps running for 5 minutes after turning off the tap, and the water just sits there... etc. I often found myself scratching at night, and one morning I inspected the bed and found a dead bed bug. I suspect the room might have been disinfected previously. In short, this is far from European Sheraton standards. The breakfast is decent, and the breakfast staff are smiling and pleasant (which wasn't necessarily the case for the rest of the hotel staff, particularly at reception). The pool and gym are not bad, and the staff there are also friendly. The hotel is quite far from the city center, but it's easy to get a taxi. There's no outdoor seating area accessible in the evening, which is a shame. And if you order food from outside, you're not allowed to eat in the common areas. We were kicked out of the bar and told to eat in our room. All in all, I wouldn't return. It's not worth the price; there are better options in Istanbul.

Upon check-in, we encountered a highly incompetent receptionist. Instead of the deluxe sea-view room we booked, we were given a low-floor room with no view. When we asked to change rooms, she reacted with an extremely displeased expression. Her attitude was biased (though she was very polite to tourists from Turkey). The hotel's location is terrible. It's a 30-minute walk to the nearest metro station. It's a desolate and deserted area. The breakfasts were mediocre. I definitely do not recommend it. The only positive was the view from the window, which we eventually got.

I didn't like this hotel. It's located in a real dump. There's a metro nearby, but the line is completely unused. The bus situation is better; you can get to Fatih in 20 minutes. Opposite the hotel is a huge abandoned shopping center that you constantly have to walk around or cut through the Migros supermarket to get anywhere. There are functioning malls, streets with shops, and cafes about 20 minutes away. Our room had a luxurious view, and there were bathrobes and an iron, but the air conditioning couldn't be adjusted! You could only turn it on to one temperature or turn it off, which was incredibly inconvenient. I was constantly cold at night. Room cleaning was mediocre. Breakfasts were edible, but the selection wasn't extensive. The coffee was instant, and the juices were watered down. The hotel seemed to cater mostly to locals. After 12 PM, they would fill the pool, making it impossible to swim. There were few sun loungers and even fewer umbrellas. Service was non-existent – we had to get towels and umbrellas ourselves. On weekend evenings, the hotel hosts events. During our stay, there were two weddings, with noise until midnight. We booked a room with lounge access. It's open until 11 PM, and you can have tea or a can of soda there, and there's fruit. From 5 PM to 7 PM, snacks appear, including three hot dishes, beer, and wine. For two out of three days, these dishes were enough for us, and we didn't go out for dinner.

Overall, it was good. We arrived at 12 PM and had to wait for our room. The front desk struggled with the credit card machine; it kept failing. I suspect they were trying to process my VISA card using the UnionPay option. No wonder all my other purchases outside the hotel went through without a hitch, but it wouldn't work once I got to their hotel!
