The Magnus Hotel is an interesting old Victorian hotel! Full of character and inviting vib. The owners are very friendly and welcoming. Very clean and they are in the process of doing some renovations. We only stayed 1 night but it was quite comfy.

We were celebrating our grandparents Diamond Wedding and decided we’d go to Hillswick and the whole family would stay overnight. The staff were absolutely brilliant, so pleasant, very hardworking and attentive. The menu they’d put together for us was amazing and the food we received was exceptional! The way the food was presented was fantastic, with dishes of vegetables, mash and chips on the table for us to help ourselves to, brilliant idea! The wonderful staff had set a beautiful table with rose napkins and quality streets scattered, which was so thoughtful. We had additional touches to add and it all came together just perfectly. The staff that served us during our meal were absolutely brilliant, they were very busy with other tables, but did a brilliant job juggling alot of work, well done to them, they did such a good job! Both front of house/bar/restaurant staff were some of the nicest people I’ve ever seen, they were all absolutely excellent! The rooms were fantastic and the room our grandparents had was the Delux Suite and it did not disappoint, with additional touches of wine and chocolates! I’ve never seen a room like it, simply amazing! From the massive TV, to the beautiful fireplace, the most beautiful bathroom and a huge living room to spend with the family…outstanding room! We have had an absolutely brilliant weekend and cannot thank the wonderful staff enough. Each one of them are an asset to the St Magnus Bay Hotel! We will definately be back again!

A great hotel in Hillswick overlooking Ura Firth in the wonderful Shetland Islands. Full of bygone-days charm, with very friendly, ever helpful staff. Room was clean and had everything needed. Food was excellent (although slightly pricey). If you want an eat-all-you-can cooked breakfast to kick-start your day then this is the place to get it. Next stop Sunday carvery! Would definitely stay here again.

Really nice friendly hotel . They are doing some renovation work at the moment but you wouldn't know . My room was large with a view across the bay . Modern bathroom very clean and comfortable. The best thing about the hotel was the staff. You were treated like a friend the atmosphere was lovely everyone wanting to share the local knowledge. The food was also excellent and pleanty of it after a long day exploring Shetland

The original part of the hotel appear a little dingy but it is over 100 years old. We were in the annex which was much brighter and had a lovely sea view. The en suite was quite tiny but featured new facilities. Unfortunately there wer no shelves within the shower enclosure for placing soap or hair shampoo. The meals were good quality but expensive.

This is a lovely grand hotel in the small town of Hillswick. We stayed here for two nights, taking a cab ride from Lerwick to get here. It was a lovely and relaxing place to stay to experience the gorgeous countryside (although we might rent a car if we stayed here again). The hotel is right by the Hillswick Circular hike. Our room was great, spacious, with a comfortable bed and a stunning view of the bay. We were a block from the water and right by the start of the hiking trail, so it was a great base for exploring the local area. The room was lovely, with nice wood furniture and leaf light fixtures. The bathroom had a warm, relaxing shower with good water pressure. Water temperature got nice and hot. The toilet was a bit easy to clog, so we had to be a little careful there. Our room had been newly remodeled, with new carpet, fancy bathroom walls, and looked and smelled like it had recently been painted but maintained its historic charm. The hotel had an attached bar should you want a drink or cake, which was good for when you returned hungry after a long hike. Staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Wifi worked great. This was particularly important, since our cell service here was spotty. Staff had to help us make a call at least once because we couldn’t get our phones to find service. Overall, this was a wonderful place to stay in a wonderful part of the world.

We were not greeted upon arrival and had to wait quite awhile for someone to come lead us to our room. The bed was not comfortable and lacked a headboard. We could not control the bathroom combo light/fan, rather, it went on and off at its own whim. At breakfast, it was unclear whether to enter the dining room - the door was closed and had a sign saying, "Please wait to be seated." Once inside, it was so unbearably hot that my husband and I sweated throughout the meal. (Outdoors was not at all hot, but temperate.) Breakfast food was good; dinner the night before was not good. The main course tasted as if it had been frozen and reheated, or was made with powdered ingredients. Not as expected given previous reviews.

Andrea and Paul run a magnificent place. We were there for Sunday lunch. Andrea welcomed us warmly. The staff were quick to serve and just the right kind of attentive. The carvery option was excellent. Five choices of meat were available and you can order any and all. The portions were huge. We had three courses and didn’t eat for the rest of the day. Don’t get lunch without dessert - they’re top class. We will absolutely be back here again. We cannot recommend St Magnus’ Bay well enough
