Good Service and Good breakfast.

This hotel has high standards in all that it does. It is situated a short walk from the main drag surrounded by a beautiful garden. The staff are simply wonderful, warm, helpful and accommodating. Our room was clean, large, well equipped with the largest bed we have ever slept in! Breakfasts are simply too good for words and the dinner menu interesting and enjoyable. All in all great value for money. Why wait? Book it! Based on our experience you won't be disappointed.

There aren't enough stars to give this hotel. It was perfect in every way. The staff were amazing, and couldn't do enough for you. Particular thanks to Katherina on reception, who was wonderful. We are already looking at booking our next visit. Thank you to all at the hotel, and look forward to seeing you again soon.

What an amazing find…. This hotel is practically perfect. 42 rooms - ours had a huge comfy bed, sofa , desk, balcony overlooking the beautiful gardens, and so much more. A few welcome goodies in the fridge and bottled water replenished each day. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious and so well presented with loads of choice. The bar was comfy and also served small plates and tapas all day. But, as so many of the reviews have commented, what makes this hotel so special are the amazing staff, every single one. Reception were always happy to recommend trips, experiences and restaurants, providing bus timetables etc. Restaurant staff were always busy but had time for a laugh and a chat. The bar staff would happily mix you a cocktail. There was also a Poncha making workshop and Gin tasting session which were great fun. The staff behind the scenes are also worthy of a mention. Our room was made up and cleaned every day and all the beautiful areas around the hotel were immaculate. Both pools and pool areas were kept tidy and clean. The indoor pool was really warm. We have stayed in many lovely hotels around the world but this has to be the best by far. I totally recommend and will definitely stay here again if I return to Madeira in the future.

This is one of the friendliest small hotels i have ever stayed at. From the welcome from the very knowledgeable Sara at front of house, to Marta, Catrina and Phillipe in the excellent Restaurant and Marco, Antonio and Bernard in the Bar area, not forgetting Laura and company in the Spa who all do the hotel proud. Rooms are spacious (ours had a balcony - recommended) Suites ar also available. The Hotel is in a quiet part of Funchal a 10 minute walk downhill into town. The Five Stars are truly deserved for the quality here with a clear passion for outstanding service at a keen price point. It was a pleasure to meet Andre the “Manager” who arranged a drinks reception who seems to have a wonderful relationship with all of his team. The food menu was extensive and delicious. Breakfast could be hot or cold with hot food being cooked to order. They have a wide selection of wines and local beer on tap. Very homely furnishings with fresh flower arrangements everywhere. Two pools, indoor in the second floor and outdoor in the spa area. Very happy to recommend the spa treatments professionally delivered by highly qualified staff. The whole hotel kicks well above its weight.

We had a wonderful weeks holiday at this hotel beautiful appointed room wonderful helpful staff . Really lovely cooked breakfasts and continental breakfast as well . Lovely evening meals we had a few so glad we did would definitely return we loved everything about this hotel .

My husband and I have just returned from a wonderful 10 night stay here. This small (42 room) hotel is a real gem. All the staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. The food is excellent. A fantastic choice for breakfast, great food in the bar and restaurant which we ate in several times. Our room was superb and immaculate. The two swimming pools are great as is the spa where I had an excellent massage. We really felt the personal touch at this hotel and looked after very well by the professional caring staff. We do hope to return again in the future.

From the second we arrived, the reception team was very helpful and welcoming . We were taken on a short tour around this small quaint hotel which had a nice indoor and outdoor pool and spa .There was some lovely seating areas and a bar. Then we were shown our amazing suite. Which had a very spacious lounge bedroom and bathroom all beautifully decorated and maintained. The balcony was also large and had amazing views of a hillside village that looked gorgeous in the evening when all the lights were on and in the daytime you could also see the sea. Breakfast was served in a relaxing room with very attentive cheerful staff .There was a very good choice and you wanted for nothing . The same room was used in the evening as the restaurant / Al le carte, and I have to say the food was exceptional Sara, the receptionist, planned a delightful coastal walk to a fishing village going through a gorgeous cave like tunnel. I really enjoyed that day and appreciated the time Sara took printing the map and bus timetables . The manager had a welcome drinks evening and chatted to everyone. We loved our golden wedding evening all off the staff came to say have a lovely time. The meal in the Al le carte again was delicious and a cake and wine was left in our room. A lovely surprise. Thank you so much. we have had the best time and will definitely be returning in the future.

What a fabulous hotel. We had a fantastic week and were very impressed. The staff are all wonderful. Rooms are fantastic and a very good size. Breakfast was a great selection of hot and cold options with omelette cooked to order. Had been slightly concerned that there might be traffic noise but despite being on the side of the hotel close to the road the double glazing did its job and we had no issues with sleeping at all. Location of the hotel is good. Is a steep walk up and down to Funchal but is close to the centre and was no issues to us. It got easier as the week went by! The hotel gardens are lovely and there is plenty of space to relax and the same can be said of the inside of the hotel. There was good entertainment in the bar on a couple of evenings and a very relaxed atmosphere. The hotel also recognised the it was both my wife and my birthday whist we were there and went above and beyond to recognise this. If we ever return to Madeira there is only one hotel we would stay at. We would fully recommend Quintinha Sao Joao to everyone.
