the hotel has a good location, all major sights are around. the room is neat and has separated shared bathroom. The only drawback is that it may be a little noisy outside during nights.

I didn’t love my stay here, even though everything was clean and the staff were lovely. I stayed in a 12 bed mixed dorm, with a very very slow to close squeaky door. With the usual people coming and going throughout the night, this made for a few really terrible nights of sleep. I mentioned it to reception who seemed like it was out of their hands to fix- pack earplugs for your stay here! Otherwise no issues at all, and very well located.

Not too bad. Toilets could’ve been better cleaned. It can get noisy, especially if you’re on the window side.

Friendly staff, clean hostel and great location, I have enjoyed my stay there.

Nice stay in Edinburgh

This hostel while centrally located is Absolutley terrible if you plan on sleeping at any point of your trip . There is a bright light turned on that cannot be turned off , there is no air conditioning and all the windows allow for extreme noise to come through at all hours od the night .not to mention the beds are terribly uncomfortable . I would not stay here again

Checked in on Sunday 19th and the woman on the desk had the most stinking attitude. Seemed like we were bothering her by checking into our room. The rooms were very spacious however i would maybe suggest some curtains for the bed for a bit more privacy. The doors for the rooms were very loud and kept waking me up when people were leaving the rooms. the location is great but for the actual price of the room i don’t think it’s worth it.

Great hostel with good facilities and friendly staff. The rooms are nice with plenty of space (make sure you remember to bring a lock) and comfy beds. The shower and toilet facilities are great and well looked after by staff. The bar downstairs did good food and drinks with a discount for people staying at the hostel. Breakfast is a simple continental with cereal and toast but it got the job done.

I was up in Edinburgh over the st paddies weekend and this has to be one of the best hostels I have stayed at, staff were very helpful and the rooms comfortable and spacious. I was in a 6 person mixed gender room and it's was lovely the shower and toilet facilities are very good. Would highly recommend

The WORST place to eat in Edinburg We asked for potato fries and sweet potato fries and were extremly salted . The burger was okay but it’s really small . the service it’s BAD. The worst part : They charge you 20% of tippin and you have to go to ask for you order .

The saying “looks can be deceiving” comes to mind with this place. I booked a private 4 bed room, for 3 of us who were travelling together for 2 nights. Bedrooms are fairly basic, the lockers are small enough to fit a day bag in but main luggage had to be left out in the room. There’s no communal furniture to be used, just a bed and locker each with the smallest side shelf which only fits a phone on. The receptionist who checked us in charged us £10.50 for 3 towels which should have been free with a private room (this has since been refunded) and she forgot to give us breakfast tickets. Breakfast was misleading. You aren’t told it’s continental when booking and consists of sliced bread, ham, cheese, cornflakes, apples and oranges. Greyfriars hostel doesn’t have the option of paying for a cooked breakfast, that’s only at the Grassmarket hostel. There’s also no communal kitchen available to use at Greyfriars. There’s one at the Grassmarket hostel but only for people staying there to use. Customers staying at Greyfriars receive 10% discount on bar food to make up for this - totally misleading and not acceptable for people traveling on a budget. The bathrooms were the worst - toilet plumbing sucks and doesn’t flush properly. The showers are beyond tiny, with just a button you press which gives you lukewarm water for 10 seconds at a time and there’s no privacy to get in/out or to change. You open the shower glass door straight into the main bathroom. On our floor there was one female bathroom with 2 toilets and 2 showers in and all the other bathrooms were shared sexes - ladies keep that in mind as you get changed/shower in a room that offers no privacy. Showers also flood over the floors and into the toilet stalls. My main disappointment with this place was the management staff. Whilst 2 of us were napping in our “private” room in the late afternoon, 2 men walked in to start measuring the windows for new blinds. They didn’t even have the courtesy to give us notice or ask our permission to come in the room. Just unlocked the door and made their way in, taking us completely by surprise. If we had paid for only beds in a shared dormitory I would have understood strangers coming and going, but when you pay for a whole private room, this should be PRIVATE. After they left, I made my way down to reception to complain to the on site manager at the time (who turned out to be one of the men who let himself into our room) only to have him raise his voice at me in front of a bar full of customers, arguing that “they did knock” before quickly entering with their own key pass. He was completely unprofessional and couldn’t guarantee we wouldn’t be disturbed again during our stay and that our room like any other was not private and could/would be accessed at any time. On our last morning, a member of staff again walked into our room at 7:30am disturbing our third party member who was still in bed. We have stayed at 2 other hostels on previous visits t

We were in need of a budget friendly place to stay the night and endet up booking a twin room in the hostel. The room was furnitured functionaly with a bunk bed, a bit of storage area, a table and chair, a huuuge mirror and even a foehn. The room itself as well es the shared bathroom on our floor and downstairs next to the café / bar were well cleaned. We had dinner at the bar and went back the other morning for the included breakfast. The chicken wings and the dirty fried were amazing and reasonably priced, breakfast was pretty basic, but absoluteley fine, minding the fact how cheap it was. The majority of the staff was friendly and supportiv, only one encounter was slightly unpleasant, bcs we arrived a bit early. We knew we couldnt check in at that time, obviousley, but being dispatched with the word ´Check in at two!´was just rude, as we were hoping to be able to just leave the luggage there for a bit as offered on the website. Being the hoste, that´s something you can just offer while reminding your guests of the check in times... There is also one matter about the beds. It was all fine for a night, but they have very thin matresses and make sounds whenever somebody moves. Not rly comfortable tbh, but again: fine for a night or two in a twin room, don´t want to think about the noise in a dorm.Some earplugs solved the problem.

One of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed In from the cute chill out areas to the central location except it can be quite noisy at night as it’s on a busy street of bars. All the staff were so helpful and friendly and went above and beyond to help me enjoy my time in Edinburgh. They let me store my bags there all night even after I’d checked out and still use all the facilities which was amazing. All the bar staff especially Alex were so lovely and really made me feel at home which made my trip as I was travelling alone. The cocktails were 10/10 and the staff were too. I will definitely return to this hostel when I’m back in Edinburgh!
