I was greeted late at night by a very friendly receptionist, I checked in to a very spacious room. I went to the bar and chatted more with the receptionist who gave me amazing tips. I found the hotel quaint, authentic and cozy. My bed was comfortable and it was very quiet. I ordered the full English breakfast and it was very enjoyable. I will definitely come back when I am in the area again.

A birthday treat for my wife. The hell it was! Telephoned direct and enquired about a Saturday night stay, explaining as a well needed break and birthday surprise for my wife. Paid by card there and then asking price £126.00 for the one night in a larger double room. Given room 14. Lady at reception explained there was a noisy dehumidier in the room next door to us as it was damp and she would come up and switch it off. Still going... The room was very cold, radiater was off, we sat on the bed for a bit and looked at one another thinking the same thing. It was really poor and for the amount of money, it was called "taking the piss". Several screws and nails sticking out the wall. Carpet not fitting, thread sticking up all round the edges. Dirt smears on the walls. I paced the actual room size (excl the hall to the entrance door) and roughly 8ft by 12ft. LOL as they say The ensuite was another disappointment, public hair on the mirror, dirt round the shower knob, sink tap not cleaned 100 percent, door with bleach splashed all over it, filth round edges and skirting... £126.00 a night remember! At no stage did anyone say "oh by the way, happy birthday". Nice food and service in dining room. After food I ordered two coffees and two brandies. Coffee arrived but no brandy - "sorry i forgot about it and I'm not sure if was added to the hill or not" she said?! After this was told can't add the dinner bill to hotel bill to pay all extras in one go, had to pay straight away as it was explained a separate business. We left at checkout time in the morning and no one in reception area, left the key on the counter, no one spoke. I drove home thinking of all the places we could have stayed for that money. Wow!

We needed to stop somewhere for lunch, while travelling down to Wiltshire, and even though it was late in the afternoon, the Chef and staff couldn't have been more helpful. The bacon and brie sandwiches were lovely served with fresh salad and crisps. as was the coffee and tea. We will definitely stop there again the next time we are passing

Pettifers ticked all the boxes for us. Our room was exceptionally clean and well set up. The staff were kind and welcoming and we felt like our comfort really mattered to them. Lovely food in the evening and a delicious breakfast. A really fantastic family stay with some special and thoughtful touches. Will definitely be returning to this special place.

Excellent food Booked by phone, friendly booking and good value as included breakfast. Bought two small dogs which wasn’t a problem and made to feel welcome. Good choice of evening meal, very nice and even stretched to pudding! Nice evening spent between the beer garden and restaurant. Again friendly service. 👍

We were celebrating our golden wedding and staying at hotel which to be honest wasn't bad. We had dinner with friends which was absolutely awful, the food wasn't edible,we tried to make lite of it but it was an expensive disaster. We were told Sunday morning that we would be refunded by the caterers but its 1st June and nothing had come back onto my account. So if you get to read your reviews please refund me! Won't be back!!!! Ann Rowlands.

I recently stayed at the hotel from 24th May until 27th May, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing throughout my entire stay. We had booked a double room and informed the booking team that we would have a baby with us, necessitating a room with easy access. Over the phone, we were assured that a suitable ground-floor room was available. However, upon check-in, we were given a room on the first floor up a narrow flight of stairs, which was completely unsuitable for our needs. When we addressed this issue with the reception, the individual there informed us that he works at the bar and could not assist us, and that we would need to wait for the owner. When the owner eventually arrived, he claimed that no such request was made during the booking process, despite us explicitly discussing it over the phone. He also stated that the only accessible ground-floor room was smaller than a double bedroom and unavailable. Despite our observations that rooms in the new block opposite reception were vacant, he insisted they were occupied and suggested we swap rooms with our family members. The service during breakfast was extremely slow, with the waiting staff appearing overwhelmed despite the few occupied tables. The food quality was mediocre, and on the first day, I found a hair in my plate, which was very off-putting. The following days saw no improvement in the speed of service. On 26th May, my family decided to dine at the hotel restaurant. Despite informing the staff that they would be dining shortly after having coffee in their room, they were told upon returning that the restaurant had run out of stock. This was particularly frustrating as other guests were being seated during this time. The overall service was shockingly poor, with a clear lack of understanding of how to deal with customers. The level of unprofessionalism and the inability to accommodate simple requests left us very disappointed. I am surprised that the hotel is still operational with such substandard service. This experience has certainly affected our perception of the hotel, and I would not recommend it to others. Improvements in customer service, communication, and general hospitality are urgently needed.

This review is about their restaurant..not the hotel itself. Had one of the worst meals I've ever had! The restaurant itself was empty on a Saturday evening - we were the only diners. This should have told us that it wasn't going to be good....but nothing prepared us for just how bad! Firstly, when we asked what vegetables came with the meal, we were told "runner beans" ...nothing else! Then, when we asked to see the wine list, we were told they don't have one! The waitress cobbled together. a few bottles out the back which she brought to our table to show us. A red, a white and a rose. That was it! Then the food! My starter of calamari tasted shop-bought frozen...and way over, cooked. For the mains, the roasts arrived on a plate-size Yorkshire pudding...which was undercooked and doughy. Two of the 4 of us couldn't even eat it and sent them back. Then when we asked to see the dessert menu we were told the kitchen is closed...this was 8.45pm! All in all, it was a shambles...awful food and the worst restaurant experience I've ever had! The following morning, we contacted the manager to formally complain. He apologised profusely and promised to refund our bill in full. 6 days later and still no refund! If you want even a basic, average evening meal out....avoid this place whatever you do! Just awful!
