After upgrading to The Level the previous two years, we were excited to be returning to see the major renovations that had taken place during the winter closure. However, works were still ongoing and we were unable to experience the finished look. The positives - nicer lobby feel with reception moved to the side; beautiful comfortable Level lounge; new tiling around pools. The quality of food for breakfast and at the 2 hour 'cocktail time' remained high, as did the service given by the staff. We enjoyed a lovely couples massage at the spa The negatives - the Level lounge was overrun as soon as the cocktail time started, resulting in the tapas quickly running out. Items were periodically replenished, but unless you were actually sat inside (as many groups or families did) you were unsure when to try again to get some food. The area for getting snacks and drinks was clearly not big enough for the number of people using it. The Level has lost it's exclusive pool and sun deck, which has now become open to all guests aged over 16. This has made it a quieter area, but many more people were migrating there from the main pool. This resulted in no sun loungers being available in the afternoons. The hotel needs to add more to the grassed area, plus additional parasols. The biggest disappointment for us, was that the Casa Nostra Level restaurant was not yet completed. We missed having breakfast on the terrace with the beautiful view of the fishing boats passing on the estuary. Instead breakfast was being served in the pool bar. This was such a contrast to before, set in an area not at all suited to an upmarket Level experience. The indoor cold buffet items did not have enough space and the breads and pastries had to have cloths over them to stop the birds from getting to them. The coffee machines were on top of the bar counter and were too high for shorter people to operate easily. The outside seating area had puddles after the early morning poolside cleaning, there were drains with a bad smell and worst of all, a smoking area within touching distance of the eating tables. All in all we felt short changed for the high price we had paid and we shall not be returning. I must finish by mentioning a couple of names where we received excellent service - Maru on reception was very welcoming and helpful with our requests and our friend Maria in the Level lounge who worked so hard and was always pleasant no matter how busy she was.
