Hotel is by beach . Room is big and clean. Breakfast is very good. The supermarket is in next door. The town Sitio near Nazare is on the cliffs. The views are very beautiful and looks down the beach and town. It worths the visit. The parking on the hilltop is limited but if you go there early , you are still able to find place to park. The receptionist is very good and helpful. When I arrived at the hotel in the evening, I found flat tire. The young guy worked at the front desk helped me to call the rental car company to solve the problem. I definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

Since the first contact, everything was very good. The service, availability and hosting of all the staff/professionals was extraordinary. They upgraded my reservation and offered ”a mimo”. The suite was very comfortable, wide, pleasant, clean and everything worked perfectly. The breakfast was very varied, with fresh products of quality and these are constantly being repaired, the gym was well equipped, the pool was clean and the Turkish bath was available.

What a terrific hotel. New, clean, quiet, comfortable room and excellent customer service from all the staff. Had a soft supportive king bed, bar refrigerator, tea and coffee station and lots of storage. Breakfast was extensive with some hot offerings (scrambled eggs and bacon), cold cuts, cheese, breads for toasting and buns plus pastries and fruit…and a coffee and tea station in a beautiful setting - either inside or out. A short walk takes you to the river walk and parks and the great restaurants are just outside the hotel door - literally. We had some wonderful pasta on one night and tried the salt cod and steak at the other place just next door.

We were very happy with our two-night stay in Studio no. 12, which was spacious, tastefully appointed and had everything we needed. The host/manager Ricardo was very solicitous, regularly checking that we were satisfied and asking whether we needed anything. Our only real bone of contention had less to do with Sophia Studios and more to do with the location, with noise from the [busy] street outside and nightclubs and the like penetrating the fully closed windows and shutters. That aside, the location is excellent, within walking distance of everything you'll want to see.

The highlight was how helpful Louisa was with our confusing issue with the trains going on strike. She immediately researched our journey and found us solutions. I was amazing and will be forever grateful! From the moment I explained our predicament she went above and beyond to help us. The hotel alone was fabulous but Louisa is the diamond in this palace!

This hotel is a hidden gem! Great location that includes being minutes (walking) from the heart of old city center of Coimbra, great small resturants, shopping, and seeing the university. There is also a grocery store about 2 minutes walking distance which is always a bonus in my book. This hotel is located about 4 walking minutes from the train station and about a 7 minute drive from the bus station. What I loved about this hotel is the bar area, which is also the breakfast area, and then you walk up a flight of stairs to one of the best roof top sitting area! Amazing picture taking. The bar opens at 4:00PM and offers light eats, wine, beer, and other drinks. Good prices as well. Breakfast is very good with eggs, bacon, fruit, and many other items. The only con I would say is that the rooms are a little dated and bare essentials provided. However, it doesn't keep me from recommending the hotel highly and I would love to visit again. Also, bonus the staff is very friendly and helpful. Great stay!

This is a nice, clean, modern hotel but there are pros and cons as follows :- Pros - Clean, well appointed rooms which we found to be quiet Very nice bar/lounge with TV Barman switched the channel so we could watch an English soccer game (although he did keep disappearing for long periods - we don’t know whether he had another job or a girlfriend somewhere else in the hotel) Pool area is very pleasant Breakfast included and it was an excellent buffet Cons - Not a major problem for us but it is a bit of a walk (at least 10 mins) into ‘town’. This could be a problem for those who are not so mobile Big tour groups are accommodated, so it was a good job that we were at breakfast right on opening time at 7am. About 30 mins later the place was swamped by a very large party Unfortunately, not every breakfast dish was ready at 7am so we did miss out on a few items. This is bad food and beverage management Since it was raining and there is nowhere else to eat close by, we had dinner in the restaurant. We thought that €25was expensive for the buffet so we ate à la carte. My rice was very dry as was my friend’s pork. Not impressed at all. Just hope you don’t want to check in or out when a tour bus arrives or is about to depart. I would have given 3 and a half stars but 3 is too low so we’ll go with 4 as the staff were all very friendly.

Overall the price/performance ratio is very good, the room can see the Mondego River, opposite the park, there is Burger King nearby, and the central street of Coimbra is 5 minutes' walk away. European hotels do not provide toiletries and there are no slippers in the rooms. Very satisfied.

The room furnishings are very clean, the details have been studied well. It is a good idea to hide the bathroom inside a box, comfortable location two steps from the center, you can reach it through the bridge. For those who arrive in the car there are some places right in front of the facility, or a large parking right behind the corner (both payable). If check in self-service can look comfortable on the one hand, it is very impersonal on the other. Since you have never seen anyone in the structure, any communication has been required to use your phone or email address. The cleaning in the bathroom is improved, although it is nice to leave guests available in a beautiful bottle of liqueur, it would be better for hygiene reasons that it was in a container still sealed. Quality price ratio very advantageous.

We had a family suite here, overlooking the river. The room was large and clean and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom looked to be new and well equipped. The desk staff are friendly, helpful and speak English. There is daily service for the rooms. Parking is very close, cheap and safe. The added bonuses of staying here are a shared kitchen with a small, delightful rooftop terrace and a larger terrace on the first floor. Walking over the bridge to the main pedestrian street takes less than 5 minutes. The Santa Clara neighborhood is quiet with a number of restaurants. A large supermarket is about a ten minute walk away from town. NOTE - it is difficult to find the building coming in off the highway. It is and the end of the block with no clear identification by the door. The name is on the river side. You need to drive over a sidewalk from the main road as the short street is quite easy to miss. This place is a real find, so glad we stayed here!

This little hotel is located just west of the river and is just a short walk away from the city. The price is basic and so is the room, bed, desk, TV, AC, shower. There's no facilities for coffee or tea but the hotel is surrounded by cafés and restaurants so it's not a great problem. The breakfast is excellent, it's unusual to find a restaurant that can cook scrambled eggs without turning them into rubber but these were delicious. The staff are friendly and helpful and speak good English, the place is scrupulously clean and there's free, undercover parking three minutes away. The test is would we go back? We will indeed.

Me at 72 years, accustomed to traditional hotels couldn´t resist to stay here. Looked crazy enough to dare. And it is different. During my travels I always choose hotels with pools, as I like to relax in them in the morning and in the afternoon after exploring. That was also the case here in Coimbra. But, shortly after booking that hotel with a pool by Mondego river, I cancelled it when I saw pics of Solar Antigo. I sacrificed the pool and did the right thing. Solar Antigo is an amazing boutique hotel with a luxury touch. It consists of series of rooms in several historical buildings in old Coimbra, on top of the hill, close to the University. Each room is individually designed with amazing attention to details. Every inch of the room is carefully planned and beautiful with stylish furniture. We booked the ordinary room, but got an upgrade for a two level Jacuzzi room (probably God's compensation for that pool). The staff is so kind and welcoming - they waited for us almost until midnight to arrive. They provide free parking by the hotel in that tiny uphill street. Amazing views of Coimbra from your window. Breakfast is served in a basket and delivered to your room in the morning. You have 2 TVs, AC, bathrobe, coffee machine and a refrigerator with complimentary cooled bottle of champagne and couple of beers - unbelievable and unseen for a price of around 70 Euros a night for two people. The only problem is finding this jewel, specially at night when we arrived. But once there, all Coimbra attractions are in a very close walking distance. I must emphasize in terms of quality/price/location, Solar Antigo is one of the best hotels I've stayed in my 30 years of travel being in 500+ hotels in over 80 countries on all continents.

The location is excellent: although it is not so close to the main attractions of the city, it is in a region with several transport options, as well as supermarkets and food sites. The service is quite welcome, however, only for additional information, we had problem in requesting to leave our travel bags before check-in, because we would still arrive in the city morning: I know that this is not a obligation The hotel is a hotel with a view to the hotel, but one of the reasons for booking this hotel was just because we received the confirmation that we could leave our stuff in the hotel before check-in (which takes place at 15:00). The room furnishings are very clean, the details have been studied well. It is a good idea to hide the bathroom inside a box, comfortable location two steps from the center, you can reach it through the bridge. For those who arrive in the car there are some places right in front of the facility, or a large parking right behind the corner (both payable). If check in self-service can look comfortable on the one hand, it is very impersonal on the other. Since you have never seen anyone in the structure, any communication has been required to use your phone or email address. The cleaning in the bathroom is improved, although it is nice to leave guests available in a beautiful bottle of liqueur, it would be better for hygiene reasons that it was in a container still sealed. Quality price ratio very advantageous.
