This is a beautiful country house hotel set in its own grounds on the banks of the River Teith in Callander. Within walking distance of the town the hotel has such a soothing relaxing ambiance that you feel that you are somewhere more remote. From the latched front door, past the roaring open fires to the individual quirky rooms, this is an hotel that just exudes relaxation. You can choose to sit in the lounge and watch the river flow, have a seat and read one of the extensive, and I mean extensive, range of books in the library, take a walk in the gardens or ---- even fish the river, which is well known for salmon, sea trout and brown trout, after which you can partake of a sumptious Afternoon Tea. All of that is before you sit down to the most exquisite and delicious food that you can imagine. The Chef here works to the highest of standards and the delicious food is prepared and served, consistently, to those standards. Choose to eat in the restaurant or partake of a meal in the Potting Shed --- the beautiful little bistro adjoining the Walled Garden --- you will not be disappointed. This is an hotel where you can relax, chill out and recharge your batteries. Enjoy!!!

Love The Roman Camp! Had our wedding here 25 years ago and love to return. Had festive dinner with another 3 couples and was fantastic. Great food, lovely atmosphere, wonderful service. Could have sat by the fire in the Drawing Room all night. Will be back again soon.

We stayed one night at the Roman Camp Hotel after looking for a place that was on our way back to Edinburgh from the Isle of Skye. We had a lovely stay and wished we'd spent an extra day to be able to explore the gardens and local area more fully. The hotel is fascinating for its decor and history. Our room was at the top of circular stairway that was rather treacherous, but the staff were very helpful in carrying our bags up and down. The room was cozy with a comfortable bed and stall shower as well as tub in the bathroom. We loved the atmosphere and decor in the bar area, the drawing room, and the library. The "secret room" at the back of the library was an interesting find. We had signed up for the 3 course dinner and had canapes and drinks in the library beforehand. The food at dinner was excellent, well-presented, with attentive and friendly service. The roaring fire in the dining area was a special touch. The food at breakfast was similarly excellent. Overall, we had a lovely stay and we very much appreciated the historical nature of the hotel.

Had afternoon tea here yesterday and I have to say it was an amazing experience. Room was decorated for Christmas, the fire was on and the table set - the atmosphere was just perfect. The food was first class. The customer service second to none. Just wonderfully seasonal. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Excellent , excellent. The hotel is very charming, the staff very attentive and food fantastic. The room was large with seating area and a king-size bed with large bathroom which had a jacuzzi. I didn't want to leave and have booked to come again.

Very beautiful hotel in Calander that was once an old hunting lodge. Inside there is a magnificent library and living room that hide a secret and claustrophobic chapel that is worth visiting. The breakfast is very good and the service from Gillian at the front desk is excellent. Always very loving and with all the patience in the world. Curiously, the best thing about this hotel is its magnificent outdoor gardens. Some of the most beautiful we have seen in a private accommodation on our month-long trip through Scotland. I got tired of taking pictures in different spots of these awesome gardens. The establishment is located very close to the most important trails to visit in the area. Highly recommended!

The hotel is charming. It may be getting a bit tired in spots, but that adds to its charm. Our room, the yellow parlor, was enormous with a comfortable seating area. The shower had great water pressure. The bed was comfortable. The common rooms in the hotel are lovely and cozy. There was a fire going in the parlor. The grounds are pleasant. We saw several deer. Breakfast was elegant and delicious. We ate in The Bistro both nights and the food was very good.
