The Surf House

The hostel is very close to Byron Bay. When we entered the hotel, the staff told us that we would upgrade our reserved room to a double bed room with a separate bathroom. I feel that the price is still quite high. Later, she also recommended a special dinner with the hotel on the top floor of the hostel, but when we were full of expectations, we were told that the event was cancelled. In fact, its pattern is more like a backpacker station. There is a large public area where you can cook. But what impressed me the most is that I didn't know who put the milk in my refrigerator in the innermost and almost didn't find it. The soundproofing of the room is not very good, and you can hear all kinds of buzz from the public area at night. Since the store used a guarantee at the time of booking, it has not yet been returned to the account.
Byron Quarter Apartments

When I booked I called and emailed about a ground floor apartment as I have mobility issues, I was promised ground floor and that there would be a note 'do not move'. Yes we were given ground floor but with steps to access our section, this meant my husband had to cart wheelchair up and down 5 steps and I had to be extra cautious utilising the steps. I contacted the managers who were very apologetic offering any assistance if we needed with wheelchair etc. I did remind that I was promised ground floor due to mobility and was told the areas 1 & 2 were 2 bedroom and the only 1 beds were in stairwell 3 and they were fully booked I'd they weren't they would've give us one. Well in hindsight the promise shouldn't have been made. 5 hours later they offered us an apartment at another accommodation which was disability friendly. The thought of packing and moving 5 hrs in when we'd settled and unpacked was the last thing I could think of. Very kind of them and they tried their best but maybe juggling too many promises is their downfall. We had to move their carpet square around as upturned corners were trip hazards. Yes noise issues as others have said can hear toilet flush upstairs, and unwelcome stomping about at 2am. There was a noise issue at 7pm that first night of a group singing, yelling and stomping about. We made contact with manager again who quickly looked into it. Was told apparently a few families who booked accommodation meeting in one apartment deciding where to go for dinner.....that was some loud excitable decision making! Loud enough for us to make a noise complaint. Position is great, walk (and wheelchair) to everything, shops, cafes, beach and restaurants. I stayed there 4 years ago but when I was more mobile a nd would probably stay again but would be clear with my needs and call again pri.or to check-in to ensure all good.. Clean other than sand under that mat we had to move. And the fridge and pantry could do with a scrub.

YHA Cape Byron, Byron Bay
4.1/516 Reviews
Having not been to Byron since 2006, I came for a night with a friend. We didn't want to be spending in to the 100s for a room we would only sleep in. We opted for the Cape Byron YHA. For $70, we got a twin room with a double and a bunk. The room was pretty bare, no TV - But it had a clothes hang/store area / mirror / enough plugs for the 2 of us. The bed was comfy and the covers were clean and warm (you have to ***** the bed upon check out). There were 3 or 4 showers in the block on our floor, same for toilets - you needed the swipe card to get in - again clean, warm. The kitchen area was large - this grossed me out a little - but it's been a long time since I backpacked Oz and needed to cook for myself in such. The pans were old and pretty grubby. You had to get your plates etc from reception - but we had ours with us. The tea towels were rank - I wouldn't use. The worst however was a bloke in the kitchen coughing all over the place - not the hostels fault, but nasty nonetheless. Needless to say, we didn't go sit and eat by him - we ate on our balcony which had a table and 2 chairs. During COVID-times and no flights coming in to Oz, this hostel serviced a range of ages - I am 40 and there were people older than me there. I found the hostel more like a motel. Good location and good wifi.
Hibiscus Motel

Whilst driving down to the Hibiscus Motel, I realised that we we’re not going to be at the motel in time for checking and that on the Expedia website it stated that you needed to give them 24 hours notice if you were going to arrive later than 5pm. I emailed the motel and explained that we were going to be late and asked if we could make alternative arrangements to check in. I received an email back in no time, asking if I could call the hotel as my credit card had been declined. I called the hotel and was advised that these things happen and provided my credit card details over the phone. I hadn’t realised that I had had a replacement card. I was told where I could pick the key up from and everything was looking good. Just as we arrived at the motel, I check my email again to find that my card had yet again been declined and I was fully aware that reception had closed. I tried the combination for the safe and thankfully the keys to our room were in there, with a note asking if I could attend reception the next morning. The room, was a good size and whilst it might not have been the most luxurious in Australia, it was everything we needed for a couple of nights. The bed was really comfortable which provided a good nights sleep. The next morning I went to reception and was instantly put at easy by the staff. (This was the first time my card has been declined) We went through the check in procedure, attempted to pay for the room, where I received a text from the bank asking me to authorise the payment, this then went through. The staff could not have been any nicer or more understanding.
Beach Suites

My husband and I stayed over the Christmas period in a Garden Suite with a lovely large courtyard. This particular suite was chosen for the size of the accommodation and the courtyard. We were able to have family visit for Christmas Lunch and enjoyed the spaciousness of in and outside during the day. There was a total of 10 of us and the Suite is very functional with a great kitchen, coffee machine and a large fridge with plenty of cupboard space. It was the perfect Christmas lunch. The king size bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows and the large L-Shaped leather lounge was fantastic. We didn't hear any noise from neighboring apartments or restaurants. The parking underneath is very secure and two charging stations for convenience. The everyday cleanliness and tidy up was excellent. Unfortunately due to the storms on the Gold Coast we had to leave a day early. The delightful lady on reception was able to re-sell our apartment for the one night and we were refunded less a small charge. We were thrilled and grateful that without prompting this was done. An excellent stay and a lovely experience.
