Firstly I don't normally submit reviews. I think everyone's experience is subjective based on where you've travelled before and what your expectations are. I also think it only fair to address issues with management before posting on a public forum. All of these concerns that I refer to below have been expressed to the management and the response to date has been indifferent at best. Overall this hotel is overdue a refurbishment but unfortunately the tired nature of the decor extends to the staff and management also. My problems were many. The room was not serviced properly on two days. Paint was flaking from the walls and the air-conditioning did not work properly, which meant the room was frequently cold. The room was also poorly lit, which created a very depressing ambience. Check in and check out were comical. When I checked out I was given no bill, no invoice or any receipt, neither was one emailed to me. When I got home I saw that I had been overbilled by €300 which management told me was normal practice but was being refunded to me. By the way it took three days of emailing management to be told this. This could have easily been avoided or cleared this up if I was given an bill/invoice or informed of this by reception, none of which happened. There were other issues. The downstairs common areas are small, rundown and completely misrepresented by the hotels website. The staff refused to hail me a cab and told me to go inside and order one. A small issue, but surely that's one of the benefits of staying in a five star hotel. Finally communication. I emailed them, using the address provided on their website, filled out a contact form on the website and finally completed a customer satisfaction survey. No of this aroused the attention of the Hotel Management. Finally I resorted to the only tried and trusted method, Twitter. I eventually got a response here, but it too was also slow and labored. The room was €500 per night. It was far from value for money. Would I go to Bordeaux again, most definitely yes. Would I stay in this hotel again, most definitely no. The problems in this hotel extend across the board, it will take some effort to fix them.

Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic

Bordeaux|0.27km from Pavillon des Vins de Bordeaux
The Mercure hotel is conveniently located opposite the main train station of Bordeaux, Saint Jean. There is also a tram stop at this location. From the airport you can either take the shuttle bus for 8€ which goes direct from the airport to the train station or you can use the tram from the airport with 1 change at €1.70 The hotel has been recently renovated within the traditional historic building taking up a corner site. The ground floor is occupied by a bar bistro which always seemed popular and had good reviews. There was also a nice lounge sitting area which extended into the breakfast area. There is no reception in the traditional sense but instead a station which was always attentively attended to. The decoration was very modern with good attention to detail and plush furnishings. As an Accor member I was graciously upgraded from a classic to a superior room. The room was a good size and had a separate seating area in a sunken part of the room accessed by a few steps. This allowed the benefit of the full length historic window to flood light into the room. The bed was extremely comfortable and was overlooked by a large screen TV. There was ample lighting options around the bed and usb ports in the side light. The room came with tea and coffee facilities and free water which could be refilled at the water station in the corridor. The bathroom was bright and modern with large walk in shower. The decor was modern and elegant and to a four star standard. It should be noted that only the privilege rooms come with a fridge and coffee machine. The WiFi had good open connectivity with speeds of up to 50mbs. Overall this is a very pleasant hotel with easy access via tram to the rest of Bordeaux. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, the room comfortable and good value for money.

This hotel can easily be reached from the train station, just take the exit to the back side of the station (where also a good pizzeria is and all the intercity buses pick up passengers). Like that you can easily reach the hotel in 5 minutes by foot. So, if you don't mind not being in the city center/old town and willing to use the nice trams and buses (both no problem at all), this is a good choice. Supposed you don't pay the official prices, but rather get a good deal (through the hotel or booking platforms). Then, and I think that's probably the normal case, this hotel can offer excellent value for the bucks. It's one of the few hotels I've experienced where the floor-level-entry shower didn't flood the whole bathroom. The hotel per se is a 4-star officially, with new rooms and amenities, but lacks in some areas compared to other 4-stars. E.g. if you arrive early and can't check in yet, you likely can't use the free wifi as it only accepts french phone numbers. Other quirks: The bathroom can't be locked, the lamps in the room can only be controlled from one side of the bed, one can not adjust the shower head's direction, has to go for the rain shower, I'd recommend setting the air-con to off during the night. The keycard sometimes stops working if stored in a purse with other magnetic cards. Also, the cleaning service is sub-par: If one doesn't leave by noon, the staff doesn't check later in the afternoon again, instead just doesn't clean the room. Bed linen also aren't renewed daily, which is something one generally expects from a 4-star (although often not really needed and not very environment-friendly). The reception staff are friendly, but in those times when only 1 person is at the reception, you might have to wait 5-10 minutes to get addressed. To me it's a bit of a mystery why the architect designed the windows relatively small, considering this is a very new hotel building. But the rooms per se are great. Prices for the laundry service are prohibitively excessive (e.g. you can buy a new t-shirt for the same price instead). The breakfast is also quite pricey, at 19 EUR.

The hotel was very good, and the room was very good, and the air conditioning was very good. The girl at the reception was very unpleasant, neither did she teach me where breakfast was nor anything. She told me it was my room number and it is already. In the breakfast she eats without dishes, which was very shaky because they didn't clean the boxes... The hotel is a good location, but I think if you have a very good time foreseen and you won't stay a long time in the hotel or room, you can do it.

All the staff are very nice and friendly. The hotel and room are very clean. If this hotel provides a kettle, a couple of cups and spoons, and a fridge, it will be perfect. 10-15 mins walk from the train station. Next to the hotel, there is a tramway stop and a little supermarket. We are considering a next trip to Bordeaux. We may book this hotel again.

Reception: English lady at reception was very assistive and pleasant. Room / facilities: Room number 608 is on the 6th floor and is an executive room. Not sure why it is considered executive, as it only appeared to be larger than other rooms (based on the floor, layout diagram on the entry door). We did not use the flat screen TV as there are virtually nil english speaking tv channels on French TV. The king bed is comfortable, but the 4x square European pillows are not to my liking. The executive room was not as clean as i would expect, as there is black mould in the clothes hanging space, a mop head is provided (no handle attached), the bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans have years of dust built up around the edges where the fan unit connects to the wall. The room walls badly need a paint and freshen up, as there are black marks on the walls from the bedside tables. Water streaks run down the bathroom walls. There executive room has no daily clean, obtaining fresh towels cost extra per request. Depending on your length of stay, to ask for the room to be cleaned floor vacuum is an additional €9. We saw the cleaner on our floor one morning, however after we returned after 4 hours, the floor hall way was not even vacuumed. The towels provided fell brand new, as the tags are not frayed, they smell and feel fresh from the store, UNWASHED.. I have to take the rubbish out. Our booking was for two persons, yet the hotel only provided 1x bottle of water, additional bottles were at a cost. The kitchenette has a bar fridge, cook top, microwave, cutlery, crockery, pots and pans, but no towel to dry dishes, no chopping board nor a plug for the sink. Well equipped kitchen MINUS the bare basics. You have to request a dish wash kit from reception, this dish wash liquid in the kit is as runny as water, does not form any suds and will only last 1 - 2 washes. Using the liquid soap in the bathroom was more effective. The bathroom has yellow coloured stains on the silicone around the base of the tiles, the shower tiles appear to be dirty and need a good scrub. This may be the design of the tiles. The toilet could use a good dose of beach or domestic cleaner (domestos) and a scrub to clean the “s” bend of the toilet, as there are black marks visible in the bowl. The studio apartment does have a self control air conditioning and windows that opens fully. The Air Con was on at our arrival and made it very comfortable to enter the room, after a hot walk from the train station. Laundry: None on site, but a Self service coin laundry with washers and dryers is a 2 minute walk on the street corner. Wash cost €5 for 8kg. Dry is available. Parking: I believe parking is available on site, for an additional charge, but this was not utilised during our visit. Wifi: Fast and reliable. Email address required for login. Breakfast: Available at an additional daily charge. This was not utilised during my stay. Conclusion: Great location as the hotel is 65

This hotel was nearly new, when we visited and well fitted out with quirky decor downstairs. Our room was adequate and fairly modern with standard Ibis amenities. We enjoyed the bar snacks in the afternoon and the simple meals provided most evenings, however, this was inconsistent throughout our stay. Likewise, the afternoon and evening staff were great and very friendly, but the team during the day wandered around eating items from the breakfast buffet and seemingly not interested in guests.

Stayed here for one night for a stopover en route to Spain. The hotel is in a very run down area down a derelict side street. You have to ring a bell to get inside and there's only one receptionist working. Our door would not lock so we got given a different room but the bathroom smelled very badly of drains so had to keep the door shut. The hotel has a snack menu and due to arriving late we couldn't get anywhere to eat as all places either bars full of students or run down kebab houses, along with super expensive restaurants where nobody wanted to go. The hotel menu consisted of various hot snacks but we were told only pizza was available. Very pricey and undercooked, very disappointing. Room had one coffee sachet and one tea bag for two people, no water. Breakfast very expensive but varied and tasty. Wouldn't go again it's in a horrible area.

The hotel is beautifuly maintained, the staff is great. Continental reakfast at 10 euros is ok but fruits could be improved a bit. I was grateful that they were willing to go find me gluten free bread. Perhaps you could add a few more items to the continental breakfast. Guests should be aware of the location of this hotel. It is a long walk to downtown and while there is a tram within 15 minute walking distance, we did not feel very safe in this area. Not recommend you walk around after dark.
