Plaka Hotel

Athens|0.07km from Triiris the T-Shirt Shop
This is an extremely nice hotel situated in a perfect location. Our stay and review are based on a Superior room You would be hard pressed to find an Athens hotel in a better location. You are right in the middle of all the action with shops and restaurants nearby. You are spoilt for choice. Although in a busy area we found the excellent double- glazed doors/windows kept any noises out and it was not an issue at all. Our Superior room came with a kettle and tea/coffee making facilities although that is not listed on their website. It may be worth e-mailing them if this is important to you. There was air-con but in March there was no need to make use of it so we cannot comment on its efficiency. The toilet/bathroom came with those tiny bottles of shampoo and body wash which we refuse to use on environmental grounds so we brought our own and used that. There was a sign saying that if the used towels were hung up then it was assumed that we were happy to reuse them. The cleaners replaced them daily regardless. The rooms were kept very clean. This hotel has much going for it. We grabbed a deal here at a very attractive price which included breakfast. The breakfast arrangements were in a fairly small area but we felt that a good selection was provided considering the space limitations. Plenty of fresh vegetable choices and delicious too. The Tomatoes and Cucumber just tasted so much better than we are used to. Cereals, bread, cakes, fruit and coffee from a machine. We looked forward to our breakfast every morning and didn’t grow tired of it. Minor gripes (being very picky). The over the bath shower was a mini battle in so much that it was prone to shoot water out onto the floor if you weren’t being careful. It could have been better but all we had to do was to adjust our showering habits and all was ok in the end. Our room had a balcony facing out to the street below. It would have been nice for a couple of chairs out there rather than just a large pot plant and the air-con unit for company. I did notice that no other balconies on other building had chairs out so perhaps that is just the Athens way. We had a Fridge in our room. Very welcome. A very close mini supermarket was the cheapest place we could find to buy water. E0.39 for 1.5 litres as I recall. We loved this hotel. All the staff were so nice and so helpful. I can’t remember all of their names but Irena and Eva come to mind. They helped make our stay wonderful. It had a curiously homely feel about the place. March time was a great time of the year as it was a pleasant day time temperature with it getting a bit chilly in the evenings. You could still dine outdoors but with a patio heater nearby. We loved Athens and have decided to return next March with the flights already booked. We will stay at the Plaka Hotel again. 5 stars from us

The pictures of the Acropolis view are absolutely accurate. such a treat to wake up in the morning and have such a stunning sight right before us. The location is prime and perfect, right in the heart of everything/ very close to the station, many restaurants and bars. everything we had planned was just a hop away. The service is fantastic: - extremely clean and hygienic rooms. - very informative and helpful service (we had a late check-in and were communicated in detail how to enter the building with ease) - great amenities. Highly recommend staying here and making the most of Monastiraki square!

The Dolli aspires to be the most luxurious hotel in Athens. However, the Daily rate is very important, in line with some of the main European cities, not corresponding to a standard and service of the international hotel industry to which the structure aims to belong. The size of a big deluxe is quite too small, rather the size of the 4-stars graceful metres are returned. The garden is too small, there is little space for baggage, forced to leave baggage on the floor. I stayed in the hotel 2 times and the junior suite, absolutely different level, though personally, I like to have a closet in the room rather than the outdoor clothes. The location is central, too, rather in the centre of the most commercial part of Athens, characterized by the less sofisticated shops and restaurants of the tourists who are unknown to the best spots in the city, The decor is very soft and very sophisticated. The bathrooms and all furnishings are beautiful. The hotel is very small and is more close to a 4-star boutique hotel than a luxurious 5-star boutique hotel. The hotel is located in the elevator, just 2 people, I understand that it is from a historic palace, but it is a little tight, a little empathical service. A little with that world of self-referency and disgrace that doesn't make you feel happy guests

Agree with all the positive comments, and can’t add any negative one. First, have to thank Soula and the staff at the gelato shop where you first arrive, all very helpful, friendly, and truly caring for you to enjoy your stay. Soula is a rock star, she makes you feel like family, like she truly cares for you, she’s amazing. Her going above and beyond expectations started when we returned from siteseeing after we had stored our bags due to our very early arrival from our cruise. We were nicely surprised to find our bags had been moved into the apartment. Then, to top that off, we had cold water and fruits waiting for us, a thoughtful touch to give us energy for our afternoon. As far as the apartment, we had the top floor (6th) which required a few stairs after the elevator, not bad, but something to think about. We chose that apartment because it’s the one with the outdoor patio. However, we never really used the patio during our two nights, mainly because it doesn’t face the Parthenon and the windows in the room open completely to that incredible view making you feel like the whole apartment is a balcony. Noticed some of the other rooms also face the Parthenon and have the great windows in case you don’t think you’ll use the balcony, I think one or two the same size as the one on the 6th, savings would be worth the extra research

It was a good place. We had to walk a little to get the key to our room though with our luggage and then come back with the key to drop our things.

The Good: - The location of the hotel is great for sightseeing and shopping on nearby Ermou Street - The rooms are quite large and decorated nicely. Bathrooms are modern and the designers have done a good job overhauling an older building. The Meh: - Charging for water and coffee pods, when other small hotels in Athens are offering them for free is a choice..... The Bad: - Staff is average to poor with hospitality seriously lacking. From the brusque greeting on arrival before my room was ready to leaving my bags in the middle of the lobby to the more than 30 minutes it took to check in, this team needs some work. (The gentleman who checked me out couldn't have been more pleasant, though!) - Despite my booking stating I would be charged at checkin, my credit card was charged several days before my arrival which resulted in needing to refund that card (as it wasn't on me) to charge another one. The staff person checking me in didn't seem to know how to do this which resulted in several phone calls and the aforementioned 30 minute check in. Wouldn't have been an issue if they had followed their policy. - This place is LOUD. Very thin walls+ high ceilings means that sound carries throughout. If you do choose to stay here, I'd recommend earplugs.
