Super 8 by Wyndham Athens

The good: Room was very clean, checkin / out was easy, TV worked The bad: Internet never worked, got connection confirmation but then apps never worked, once I turned wifi off they worked with phone data, didn't bother calling front desk because both times nobody was there when we returned in the eve. Breakfast is a joke (coffee, O-juice on counter, granola bars (1 kind) and 1 sleeve of mini donuts (tasted old), second day there were packaged tiny muffins and 1 danish (not good either) - was expecting more for the $120/night considering it's a slow time in Athens. No fruit, cereal etc, just a pile of card board boxes in BREAKFAST ROOM..... left disappointed, was told this is what WYNDHAM tells them to do for breakfast.... we were not the only ones complaining about breakfast either (2 other people did the same).

We had booked a room and paid before checking the reviews. While our stay wasn't bad, we probably would not stay here again. It's an old hotel property that the operators are trying to revive. The English-speaking staff that we met were all very friendly, empathetic, and helpful. Our bed was clean and comfortable. The door to our room closed and locked, but with a big gap on two sides that we had to block with coats and towels to keep the hallway light out. We left very early in the morning and there was fresh coffee ready. However, the travel lids did not fit on the styrofoam cups.

Horrible. Nasty. Stains everywhere, shower stall disgusting. Bathroom had ancient mold and dirt build up around the top of the shower and in the corners of the floor. No way management was inspecting the work the cleaning crew did. Probably saved money by not having a cleaning crew.

There’s mold throughout the hotel. It needs to be renovated really bad. There were insects in my room and in the hallway. The carpets are old and need to be replaced. There was a lot of noise going on during my stay, I was place by the exit and a lot of in and out of Traffic was going on.

Terrible!! DO NOT STAY HERE!! Look at other reviews, it’s not just me! This has by far been the worst experience I have had staying at a hotel. I have stayed at this hotel in the past and had a decent experience so I decided to stay here again 2 years later. BIG MISTAKE!! The hotel staff is rude, combative, manipulative and outright shady. I booked this reservation through *********** and paid the full reservation cost several months ahead. I called the hotel (super 8) a week before my reservation and the day before to ensure everything was set and there were no issues. Upon arrival, I was first told my credit card was declined… (shouldn’t have mattered, the amount was paid in full months ago) but then it turned into *********** was the issue and they were not paying super 8 the credit for the reservation. Again, this was confusing how my credit card was being “declined” and providing this error message. I was then told I would need to cancel my reservation through *********** and start a new reservation with Super 8 right then and there (book with the front desk staff in person) and that was the only option I was given. I spent over 20 minutes on the phone with *********** to cancel, then found out that my refund would take 12-14 days. So I was expected to just come up with the money again, even though I would not be refunded for 2 weeks. With no other choice, I went through with it and was guaranteed by the super 8 staff that the price would be the same. However, it was not. There was an additional $15 charge added on each night that they claimed was due to a “tax increase” that became effective in the area 10/1. At this point, it became OBVIOUS that this was the intention all along, to collect the “additional tax fee.” I tried to fight the tax fee and was talked in circles .. claiming that it would have been added regardless, even if the *********** reservation would have worked, etc. I do not believe that at all. They were so shady about the entire thing, changing their story constantly and becoming more and more aggressive once I started asking questions and figuring out what was really going on. There was a gentleman who was also trying to check in at the same time and attempted to help with my situation. He travels all over the world for business and uses *********** 100% of the time. He has NEVER had an issue with the company, especially one of this nature and agreed that something sketchy was happening. Since it was after midnight and I had been traveling all day (and going at this for nearly an hour) I gave up and decided to look into it in the morning. From there, the problems with this hotel just kept getting worse. The room was not clean, there were stains all over the bathroom area (tub, toilet, sink), the chair in the room was covered in stains, the mini fridge did not shut all the way and comforters were covered in stains. There were multiple issues with the hotel staff providing necessities for the room. On my last night,

Smoke free property, LOL.. burn holes in 30 year old bedding and carpet. Plastic bag over smoke detector in room. Microwave didnt work, FREE BREAKFAST UNTIL 9AM. at 820am NOTHING BUT 2 PREPACKAGED ROLLS, WATERED DOWN JUICE AND WATER DOWN WAFFLE MIX. ABSOLUTELY RUDE OWNER/DESK CLERK QND WIFE. THIS PLACE NEEDS AN ENTIRE PROPER MAKE OVER! IVE STAYED AT EVERY HOTEL OFF THIS EXIST OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS WHILE GOING TO THE BEACH AND RETURN TRIP HOME.. THIS IS BY FAR THE BIGGEST DUMP OFF THE EXIST! CURRENTLY HAVE A CHARGE ON MY CARD FOR SOMETHING. NOT SURE WHAT ITS FOR.. WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN EVEN IF IT WERE FREE!

Horrible hotel! Probably the worst one in the area! 2 mini pillows on the bed. Beds were hard! Only 2 small towels to shower in a 2 queen room. Microwave in room was broken. Smoke detector was covered with a plastic bag! This has to be a safety violation! There were cigarette burns in carpet and bedding. Breakfast shouldnt even be advertised here! Waffle mix was out, one danish was available, NO EGGS, NO SAUSAGE, NO BISCUITS! The only thing availble to eat was raisin bran cereal! We had 3 little kids with us which is the main reason we book places that include breakfast! Staff was horribly rude as well! The manager yelled at my husband for getting the waffle maker spray out of the cabinet. Which there was no need for it anyway! No waffle mix! Would never stay here again!

Sheets were stained. There were only hand towels in the room, no larger towels for showering. Ceiling showed signs of water damage. Chair was stained. Room was extremely musty smelling . Male front desk clerk was super rude and unhelpful.

We booked this hotel because it was close to where our friends were staying. First mistake. From the minute we arrived at the front desk, we knew it wasn't going to be a nice experience. Going into the room confirmed it. I have added a few photos I took. We obviously weren't staying in one of their "updated" rooms. it looked ok but we won't ever stay here again. From the dangerous outlet in the bathroom to the crusted over shower head, it needed a thorough cleaning. I flipped on the light switch by the door and it's attached to the microwave sitting on top of the mini-fridge plugged into the wall. No surge protector. The breakfast area was dirty, but we didn't eat there. The list goes on and on. The pictures on their website must have been right after they fixed things up because it doesn't look like that now! Beware!
