Grand Hotel Konya is located next to the University and is one of the tallest buildings in town. It reminded me of hotels in China where everything is glamorous and over the top, but the building is totally empty and deserted (maybe it was because we were there in late April). There is a piano near the reception area which we were lucky to enjoy a 6 year boy playing before we left. Nothing was open (pool, spa, gym, or rooftop bar). The dining area is huge as the hotel caters to tour groups. The included breakfast offered an assortment of items, from made to order omelets, breads, pastries, cereal, yogurt, dried & fresh fruits, cold cuts, cheese, Turkish dishes, various desserts, lukewarm coffee from their coffee machine, and several types of juices. Our tour group had dinner at the hotel restaurant and the selection was quite large, especially the dessert table. It was one of the few times where a pasta dish was offered as well as a chicken, fish, and meat one. Our room (1607) faced the horse stable, tennis court and the empty pool in the back of the hotel. You need to use your room card to work the elevators. The a/c was stuck at 24.7 degrees during our stay in April. The room contained a tv, fridge, 2 bottled water, coffee & tea supplies with a kettle, free toiletries & free wifi. Like all hotels there aren’t enough towel racks to hang the used towels to dry. Avoid the rooms that face the street if possible as there is a Mr. Frog and a pub in front of the hotel and loud music played to the early morning on the weekend.
