For the first time, an exhibition dedicated to the great Italian couturier active in New York: he created splendid dresses for the great actresses of the 1950s and 1960s, including Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Marlene Dietrich, and Barbra Streisand.Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, Barbra Streisand, and the Duchess of Windsor. During the golden age of Fifth Avenue, the most famous women of the 20th century entrusted their looks to Ferdinando Sarmi, a couturier capable of bringing a touch of Italian style to the style of American high society.From June 18 to December 31, 2026, the Museum of Fashion and Costume at Palazzo Pitti is dedicating the exhibition "Ferdinando Sarmi New York – A Journey Through Fashion from Florence to Fifth Avenue" to the designer, set up in the Saloncino da Ballo and adjacent rooms.The exhibition, the first of its kind, presents a selection of the couturier's iconic garments, displayed alongside materials from the Sarmi Collection preserved at the Museum of Fashion and Costume, and period accessories that evoke the cultural and social climate of New York in the 1950s and 1960s.

The Florence Lantern Festival (Festa delle Rificolone) is a traditional festival in Florence, Italy, usually held on the evening of September 7th. Dating back to the Renaissance, the festival celebrates the birth of the Virgin Mary and pays tribute to farmers who come to the city on September 8th to sell their produce and handicrafts. The main feature of the festival is the parade of lanterns. Children carry paper lanterns of various shapes and bright colors through the streets, usually lit by candles or modern LED lights. Traditionally, these lanterns are made in various patterns, and sometimes lanterns made by children themselves are also included in the parade.
