Great places to go near Edinburgh Castle in June (updated 2024)

Things to do near Edinburgh Castle

1. Palace of Holyroodhouse

What travelers say:
LoganD: "The audio guide is pretty good—filled with a ton of interesting history. The grounds and the ruins of the abbey are beautiful. It’s kind of expensive considering it’s mostly just an audio guide of a building tax payers pay for, but the guides are helpful and I’d say it’s probably worth the money. Castle of Edinburgh is the far superior site, so definitely don’t go here instead, but if you have extra time in the city, it’s worthwhile. Note before you go: you can’t take photos inside the building."

2. Calton Hill

What travelers say:
salvalasilvia : "Lovely place with a great 360 view on the city of Edinburgh down below. From one side you can see the Edinburgh castle and the Balmoral hotel, then if you keep turning on the left you can admire Arthur Seat in all of its glory. And you can spot the sea behind it.If you keep turning you can see up to Leith, the shore and then the all Firth of Forth. On sunny days you can see the isle of Inchkeith. And you can even spot the other side of the Forth Bridges.I would definitely suggest to come during the day and a second time to watch the sun set behind the castle. If you come on the 30 of April (with a ticket) you can witness the Beltane Fire Festival. A pagan celebration of the death of winter and the coming of spring/summer"

What travelers say:
salvalasilvia : "The Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the Old Town as it runs between two significant locations in the royal history of Scotland: Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace. The name derives from it being the traditional processional route of monarchs, with a total length of approximately one Scots mile. The streets which make up the Royal Mile are: Castlehill, the Lawnmarket, the High Street, the Canongate and Abbey Strand.Today, the Royal Mile is an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions, where you’ll often find events, stands, entertainers and buskers, especially during the Edinburgh Fringe.Try walking all of it and explore the closes as well, as most have an interesting story and/or and amazing view.A part from the castle and the royal palace, the Royal Mile is full of buildings of historical importance. Just to list a few: The Castle Esplanade (a venue for Edinburgh Military Tattoo and other events); the former Tolbooth-Highland-St John's Church; the preserved 17th century merchant's townhouse Gladstone's Land; High Court of Justiciary (Scotland's supreme criminal court); the old Parliament House which now houses the Court of Session (Scotland's supreme civil court); St Giles' Cathedral, the Heart of Midlothian (a heart-shaped pattern built into the "setted" road, marking the site of the Old Tolbooth); Edinburgh City Chambers; Mercat Cross; Tron Kirk; John Knox's House; one of Edinburgh’s all around the year Christmas shop; Scottish Storytelling Centre; World's End Pub; Moray House; the Canongate Tolbooth (now a museum of social history called The People's Story); the Kirk of the Canongate and the new Scottish Parliament Building."

3. Edinburgh Farmers' Market

What travelers say:
摆渡修行: "Back to the ruins of the city overnight, facing the sea in the farm garden, planted a variety of fruits and vegetables, every day after the harvest will appear on the table, cakes, 800 houses. For example, this one-night city-limited Farm Citron, with the citrus cultivated in the farm, has become a top-down acid and sweet layered very sour cake. Strawberry cake, when taking pictures, silently disliked its appearance, but it tasted unexpectedly good. The cream is the same as the Farm Citron , the cream with a strong milk flavor and a thick texture, which is solid. The cake part is soft and soft, filling some light. The strawberries are very thin and sour. In addition, I bought Katanda's extremely rich hard shell puffs, dry chocolate bread and some novelty roast fruit. It is not necessary to take it back, but next time if you are driving to Hakone, you will want to take away a few cute little cakes and leave them to eat when you finish the hot spring at night."
