Motel 6 Flagstaff, AZ - Butler

Hard wood floors make this a much better value than other 2 star hotels in the area. Small but a clean bed and bathroom are all that's needed.

Blue, the front desk associate, has some of the worst communication skills I've seen in customer service. He is extremely hostile and quick to raise his voice to yell at customers. He seems mentally unbalanced and is not a good face for the business. I made a reservation online and arrived with a small camper in tow. Blue immediately assured me that it wouldn't be possible for me to park anywhere on the premises, though I'd already paid to stay the night. When I asked ”surely you aren't that busy, the parking lot has many open spaces”, he raised his voice to yell at me that as a policy they do not accept oversized vehicles and I needed to find somewhere else to stay. I am a young woman traveling alone and grown men yelling at me is scary, so I left the premises to find another hotel to stay at. I called the agency I booked the hotel through to cancel the reservation. Blue reassured them on the phone that he can't do a refund because one guest can only take up 2 parking spaces. My car and camper can detach and take up exactly 2 spaces. This detail would have been helpful to hear initially instead of being yelled at and shooed away so I could resolve the situation. Because I booked another hotel room at Blue's insistence, and then he refused me a refund. I returned to the hotel to clarify with Blue that I would have liked to know the bit about being able to take up 2 parking spots because I could have fixed the problem and stayed there instead of paying for 2 hotels, but he started raising his voice at me, telling me the blatant lie that he ”was trying to tell me that, but I wouldn't listen”, and continued to scream at me to get off his property. As long as this man is working here, I'd recommend staying far away from this business. I've attached some photos of the open parking in the lot.

This was my 1st time staying in this style of hotel. I did not like the close proximity of the beds to the door and the door to the walking corridors. The room was basic, 2 queen beds (not very comfortable because I woke up with a backache), a wardrobe, coffee pot, TV, Microwave, mini fridge, and bathroom. The bathroom is an accident waiting to happen because the tiles used are very slippery with no grip so if you do not use a towel as a mat you can easily fall and hurt yourself really badly. The sink needs replacing because the composite wood is deteriorating. There is no mirror outside the bathroom so you cannot see your outfit or do make-up if someone is using the restroom. I believe there are other rooms available on sight so I would recommend opting for an upgrade if you have to stay at this location because the basic accommodation is not very pleasing or comfortable even if only for 1 night.

This stay was so disappointing. We're Diamond members so we get to a lot of Hilton properties. The front desk staff was very kind and accommodating on check in, but it was the room maintenance that was just awful. The AC/Heat vent leaked all night and you could hear the drips. The rug was pulled back and worn out in front of the refrigerator and coffee maker and the staples were exposed so when I went to make my coffee in bare feet in the morning, the staple went right into my foot. The bathroom light flickered like a strobe light whenever you turned it on. These aren't service concerns, these are safety concerns. I mentioned it to the front desk, but they didn't seem concerned. If the leak had drenched towels it probably was leaking to the floor below. And if exposed staples are going into guests feet because of lack of room maintenance, it's a problem.

The location of the hotel is OK, eating and shopping are very convenient, not far from the highway, and the facilities are relatively new. I just encountered an episode: the customer service staff at the front desk wrote the wrong room number of the key card. After going upstairs, they went to visit someone else's room. It happened that the authentic tenant came back, which was very embarrassing. I don't know what the front desk customer service thinks when writing the room number.
