Dinant, located in the Namur province of the Walloon region of Belgium, sits on the banks of the scenic Meuse River and is a small town renowned for its natural beauty and historical heritage. Dinant boasts a long history, having been part of the Bishopric of Liège during the Middle Ages and flourishing due to its famous bronze-making craft, known as "Dinant bronzes." The city's most iconic building is Dinant Castle (Citadelle de Dinant), perched on a cliff overlooking the entire Meuse Valley, a military fortress that has witnessed centuries of war and historical changes. At the foot of the castle stands the Notre-Dame Basilica (Collégiale Notre-Dame de Dinant), another Dinant landmark, its distinctive onion-shaped bell tower forming a classic cityscape against the backdrop of the rock face and castle. Furthermore, Dinant is the birthplace of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone, and colorful saxophone sculptures can be seen throughout the city streets and on the riverside bridges, showcasing its rich musical culture.
