There is a signboard of sawa which originated from the place name of Wakkanai

    Original Text

The temple itself is an ordinary temple for local people, not a tourist attraction. However, near the bridge over the entrance of the temple, there is a sign that the place name of Wakkanai is derived (Yam wakaka Nai, a sawa with cold water in Ainu).

Hokkaido 33 Kannon pilgrimage, 27th, the northernmost Daishi Shingon Ji Temple

    Original Text

It was a temple that looked like a two-story building, but the vermilion painted part stood out, and from a distance it was confusing that it was another facility. As the temple name suggests, it was a temple of the Shingon sect and was listed as "Hokkaido 33 Kannon Sacred Ground No. 27 Saihoku Daishi Shingonji". There was also a sign in the precincts that said "the birthplace of Wakkanai place name".

The vermilion building caught my eye.

    Original Text

It is near the Wakkanai Deputy Port Market. While sightseeing by rental car, I saw a vermilion-painted building and stopped by. The main hall seemed to be made of reinforced concrete, and it felt new, but it was quite impressive, such as the vermilion-painted appearance and the bridge with an arch.

    Wakinai の source

    Original Text

It is a conspicuous vermilion temple. A river that was the origin of Wakkanai from a stream that had been revetment work beside the temple ... There was also an information board. The temple itself is a general temple. It is an efficient way to walk around with the former Seto residence in the neighborhood and Wakkanai Sueko Market.

    Northest Master の Zhenyan Temple

Shingonji Temple, No. 27 of Hokkaido Sanjusan Kannon, is also visible from the street, so you can easily see it. There was also a signboard with the origin of the place name of Wakkanai.
