Nanzhai Ancient Road is located on the Gaoligong Mountain at the junction of Longyang District, Baoshan City, Yunnan Province and Tengchong City. It is part of the Southwest Silk Road (Shu-Shen Poison Road) and is an important traffic line between ancient China and India. The Gaoligong Mountain runs from south to north, stretching for hundreds of kilometers, and is a natural barrier that the Southwest Silk Road must cross. In history, there were three mountain-crossing roads: the northern line, the central line, and the southern line. The central line is the Nanzhai Public House Ancient Road. This road was opened during the Han and Jin Dynasties. During the Tang Dynasty, the Nanzhao Kingdom designated it as an official post road and carried out large-scale expansion and paving. After the Yuan Dynasty, it was changed to civilian use. It was not abandoned until the Baoteng Highway was opened to traffic in the 1950s. Now it is a mature outdoor hiking route.
