Zhicheng was founded in the Tang Dynasty where Wei Jue, the governor of Chengzhou, lived in seclusion. The city adapts to local conditions, uses the steep limestone mountain as the city constant, builds the city house in the valley, and uses the different directions of the mountain valley to divide the inner city and the outer city. There is a pond outside the city and is connected with the Qingshui River. The structure is unique and extremely rare. . The inner city area is 10 mu, the outer city area is 77 mu, and the total area is 94 mu. In addition, the pond area outside the city is 150 mu. After the city was completed, in the second year of Wansui Tongtian (697), "Wei Jing's Discrimination of the City of Wisdom" was engraved on the inner cliff at the east end of the outer city wall, with a total of 24 lines and 1126 characters. About 300 meters southeast of Zhicheng is the site of "Chicheng Temple". The big temple has been destroyed, and the "Aichang Primary School" was built on the original temple site. At present, there are still temple incense burners, pillar bases, arches and other stone components, wood carving patterns, and Qing Dynasty door foreheads, pillar bases, stone drums and other relics, as well as remnants of the stage, from the 40th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty. There are embankments and bridges built with temple stone components in the nearby canals, among which there are stone carvings with Taoist content. It is understood that the Zhicheng city site and the cliff stone carvings are the remains of the canal head of Jizhou County in the Tang Dynasty, including two groups. The first group includes the Zhicheng city site, the cliff stone carvings "Weijing Discrimination of the City of Wisdom", and the site of the Zhicheng Temple. The second group includes the cliff stone inscription "Song of Liuhe Strong Mansion" (located in Shiniu Mountain, Yangdu Village, Chengtai Township) and the ruins of the Holy Book Temple. The two steles of "Wei Jing Distinguishing the City of Wisdom" and "Ode to the Strong Mansion of Liuhe" are both carved on cliffs, and they are veritable "the first and second Tang steles in Lingnan".
The first monument in Lingnan appeared in the wilderness, history solidified here, time seems to be reversed, beautiful fonts, gorgeous rhetoric, subvert everyone's views on the times, regions, and ethnic groups. The "Ode to the House" and "Zhicheng Monument" were carved on the cliffs of the cave and the city pool in 682 and 697 by Wei Jing, the Zhuang leader. The inscription uses six new Chinese characters created by Wu Zetian, and it is rare to find such beautiful Chinese inscriptions outside the Tang Dynasty.
