Today, with the creation of civilization and the development of market economy, Maotan Factory New Town has risen, with its magnificent appearance, and the old street is still lying down, leaving a real history for the people, retaining a nostalgic realm and atmosphere. Here also retains the traditional craftsmanship of making oil paper umbrellas. It was once a wedding ceremony in Dabie Mountains. The bride used red oil paper umbrellas to cover the face and eliminate evil. The oil paper umbrellas necessary to shade the sun and rain in the daily life of the people. The old street "Chengguzhai" Xu Xiusheng, 78, a working class of oil paper umbrellas, has made oil paper umbrellas for 64 years. Don't look at the simple umbrellas. There are more than 100 processes alone, all of them are handmade. Today, the production of Dahongpao oil paper umbrella is already the intangible cultural heritage of Lu'an City, and Dahongpao oil paper umbrella has become a famous local tourist souvenir. The couplets in Maotanchang Old Street are all handwritten. According to the tour guide, the residents here who have been in the Spring Festival have asked the local writer to help write the couplet. If the couplet is well written, the owner of this house will be smug, and the opposite will be very faceless. Maotan Factory also retains a venue for the Cultural Revolution, where you can see signs of that period, large-character newspapers and some tools and items used at the time.
