Attraction name: Discovery Bay Location: Lantau island in Hong Kong Getting there: Take the ferry…a 30-minute ride from Central HK. Discovery Bay is a beautiful location for a day trip in Hong Kong. There is a stunning beach here about five minutes from where you alight from the boat. Walk a little further like I did and you can climb one of the nearby mountains. 1. West Kowloon Cultural District I feel like I'm becoming a wild spokesperson for the West Kowloon Cultural District. "Basically, if any friends are coming to Hong Kong, I always recommend coming here. If you like to chill, you can come for a picnic and sunbathe. If you like art and culture, you can go to M+ or the Palace Museum. If you like romantic and artistic things, you can come and watch the sunset feast at Orange Beach. This is still my favorite oasis in this city, full of vitality and slow enjoyment." West Kowloon Cultural District 2. Discovery Bay In a seaside town on a Hong Kong outlying island with a strong European flavor, one can only reach this low-density wealthy area by boat or dedicated bus. There are also European-style clock towers, white glass churches, beaches, mountains and grasslands, making it a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle and reach this secluded utopia on a weekend. Discovery Bay 3. Mawan The scenery of Mawan may not be as stunning as other islands, but my first impression of Mawan was too good. Walking on the lush avenue, crossing the fairy tale park through the tropical rainforest, and lazy people under the sun, I also feel the way of life here. Ma Wan Park 4. Nanlang Mountain If you ask me to recommend a hiking route with a difficulty rating of 1 star and a scenery rating of 5 stars, Nangang Mountain would be my first choice. At the beginning of the trail, you can already see the invincible sea and the Ocean Park. When you reach the summit and arrive at a helipad, you can have a 270-degree panoramic view of the sea and various outlying islands, with an extremely broad field of vision. Nanlang Mountain 5. Putai Island and Chek Chue Peng Chau Island is a southern outlying island of Hong Kong, where you can enjoy the boundless Pacific Ocean and take photos that make you feel like you're at the end of the world. To get to Peng Chau Island, you can take a ferry from Stanley Pier, so it is recommended to visit both places together. Putai Island Dawan Beach 6·Pingzhou A relatively unknown and quiet island with colorful houses, a trendy spot for taking photos and coffee shops. You can slowly walk along the seaside. Pingzhou 7. Cheung Chau If you can find a sunny day on a regular day, I believe you will fall in love with Chang. Enjoy a cold beer on the beach in summer. Sit for two hours with sunglasses on, watching the sea and listening to the waves crashing on the shore. The salty sea breeze blows on your face. This is where you should spend your summer days. Changzhou Island 8. Airport maintenance area Since high school, I have loved coming to this place to watch the sunset. Only here can you see the picture of airplanes taking off and the sunset in the same frame up close. It is far from the city center and can only be reached by bus, so there are relatively fewer people here. 9. Tai Ping Mountain Peak Before, my impression of the mountaintop was limited to the cable car and the Peak Tower. But if you enjoy hiking, you can take a stroll on the Peak Circle Walk or the Hong Kong Trail on the mountaintop. Watching the sunset from the West High Hill is also a great experience. Discovery Bay is at the northeastern coast of Lantau Island. It transformed into a wonderland featuring a European joyous atmosphere in 2022, festive decorations embellish every corner! Christmas Sunday Markets in December invited visitors to browse a wide array of Christmas-themed merchandise. Visitors immersed in festive music and elevating dance performance while enjoying the relax and open environment. Discovery Bay Ice Rink is a new destination in Discovery Bay. During Christmas, it held Christmas events such as figure skating show and speed skating practice. At the Discovery Bay North Tower, there was a 10-metre tall giant Christmas tree. Winter snow falling from the sky during weekends for few minutes creating a white Chirstmas. Just a little walk to the coast, it is the love lock promenade. It is a nice location taking photos at night there with hearts in red and golden colours. Food and beverages, supermarket and retail shops are available in both parts of Discovery Bay. Visitors can choose to dine in the restaurants or order takeaway and enjoy the food at the open table. If you want an inspiring retreat, you can just take a ferry or MTR trip/ bus ride to the Discovery Bay during weekdays and weekends. You may have seen playground by the sea but this is not your usual playground - it’s a big playground on sand, with all kinds of equipment, walls and net to climb, slides for the younger and the bolder, swings, tunnel to hide etc etc. After too much jumping and running, children can calm down by making a sandcastle or looking for shells in the sand. Seagulls and egrets can be easily spotted close to the shore! The beach is very easily accessible, just steps away from the Discovery Bay pier, and if in need of toilet, you can use the ones in the plaza or the new mall. #playground #beach #kidsfun

DB North Plaza is certainly delightful! Where can you find a place with dinner options of Thai, Viet, pizza, kebab, Cal-Amex etc on a Friday night without lining up? And a big, well-stocked supermarket with colorful fresh produce you can’t find elsewhere in Hong Kong, and even with a corner of IKEA furniture, zakka and frozen food? And a Starbucks with tables outdoor that you can sit leisurely on a sunny weekend morning?  Another lovely cafe option is the long-standing Uncle Russ. Or just take any wooden table by the seaside and enjoy the sun! Don’t forget the beach nearby, and the famous little church.

spending a lazy Saturday afternoon in discovery bay. taking a less than thirty minutes ferry from central. a very chilling and comfortable spot in hk. you can go to the mall/ beach/ ice skating/ grab a drink or just go for a casual walk. the transportation is quite convenient. the church not very special but many people were taking photos there. you can take a 15 minutes bus to return to the pier after visiting #discoverybay #chill

Discovery Bay is a mostly residential area on Lantau Island that has a sort of resort feel due to the fact that private vehicles are prohibited in the area. This really provides this place with a sense of calm that is absent in many other places in Hong Kong. As such, it's a popular weekend destination for families to enjoy a bit of quietness and have a feeling that theu are somewhere outside of HK. There is also a hotel in the area, so that's good for those who want to spend a few days. Getting there is easy as there are ferries from Central. A cheaper option would be to take the bus from either Tung Chung or Sunny Bay MTR stations. Apart from this resort feel, DB also boasts a beach that can get crowded on summer weekends. There are also multiple hiking trails in and around DB, which vary in difficulty. Expect to wear good hiking shoes and bring plenty of water if you do decide to hike. You can even hike all the way to Tung Chung or Mui Wo. Overall, DB is a great place to relax and get away from the business of HK. Having that resort feel, you'll feel as if you're out of HK. Outdoor activities are also a great way to enjoy this lovely area!

Taste of Thai Cuisine & Bar I know I have to give it a try when I heard the waiters speaking authentic Thai to each other. Hence, we walk in for dinner. Its just me and Mr, so there’s only so much I could order 😂 but I know I will go back for more! Thai Coffee is well roasted, not too sweetened, not dripped but definitely not the HK style ice coffee you ordered elsewhere. Minced Pork with Lettuces is my favourite! Their stir fry minced pork taste wonderful, not too soft or juicy but the flavour is rich and it’s not dry. It’s perfect on rice, so beside the lettuce, I ordered steam rice 🍚 all because of the minced pork. Pad Thai is my second favourite of the night. Right amount of oil and moist, not too dry (they’ll stick together like dough) and definitely not too wet (or it’ll be a mouthful of oils). It’s delightful with a pint of lemon and spice. Roasted Pork Jowl with papaya salad is mouthwatering. Freshness of the papaya salad is perfect as appetising. A little spicy for local taste but definitely acceptable for me Malaysian 😏 Roasted pork jowl/ neck is surprisingly tender and juicy. I’m definitely coming back for more.
