Photos of Dutch Reformed Church

The Dutch Church, also known as the Dutch Reformed Church, was built in the 17th century and was donated by the Dutch commander Casparus de Jong and his wife to express their gratitude for the birth of their child. 1. Introduction to the church The church was built on the ruins of a convent. The exterior is white with beautiful outlines. There is not much ornate decoration inside. There are only some simple patterned stained glass mosaic windows and the pulpit on the left side of the church. A huge canopy above. The church also houses an organ from 1760, and a pulpit made of East Indian ebony from Malaysia, where priests preach every Sunday. 2. Tombstones and brick churches are especially the ground and the outer walls covered with tombstones. They are the tombstones of the former Dutch residents in Galle, and were moved here from the Dutch cemetery in the old Dutch period. One of the more famous is the tombstone of Galle commander E.A.H. Abraham, located not far from the entrance to the church, above which is decorated with an hourglass and a head.
