Experience sleeping and living in a traditional Japanese village for 2 days and 1 night.
This place is called Ainokura Gassho-zukuri Village,
· ocated in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan.

It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The village looks similar to Shirakawa-go, which many people know, but it's quieter,
· ess crowded, and less bustling.

There are about 6-7 traditional houses in the village that offer accommodation, but I must say, booking is very difficult,
because they're always fully booked.

This time, I booked a house called Choyomon,
costing approximately 15,000 yen per person per night,
which includes dinner and breakfast.

The house can accommodate 1-4 people.
When I went, there was also an elderly Japanese gentleman staying in another room.

The owner, an elderly lady, takes care of the guests and prepares the meals.
The food is simple, home-cooked Japanese style.
It looked delicious! There was grilled fish, sashimi, and various tempura.

Oh! They have yukata robes available for you to wear for photos,
or while eating. It's a really authentic experience!

I have to tell everyone that when I went in December,
it was very cold outside, but once inside the house,
it wasn't cold at all. The house was incredibly well-insulated.
Plus, they had the heater on, keeping us warm and comfortable all the time.

The sleeping arrangements were Japanese-style futon mattresses on the floor.
They were incredibly comfortable. The bathrooms and common areas were also very clean and tidy.

In addition, you can stroll around and take photos in the village in a very relaxed way, because in the evenings and early mornings,
there are hardly any people. The photos turned out beautifully peaceful.

This was a wonderful experience.
Staying in a homestay in such an ancient village was amazing.
I was very impressed and would love to go back again if I have the chance,
or try staying in homestays in other villages sometime. ❤️

🏡❄️ Walk to the very end of the village, and you'll find beautiful views at Suganuma.

Suganuma Village is another Gassho-zukuri village in Gokayama, Toyama, that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The village isn't large,
making for a leisurely stroll. The further you go, the more peaceful and serene the atmosphere becomes.

🏔️ The highlight is not to rush back.

Try walking to the very end of the village.
Slowly admire the Gassho houses with their old wooden roofs, the rice fields, and the surrounding mountains.

Especially during winter, when snow covers the entire area,
the contrast between the dark Gassho houses and the white snow creates a simple yet stunning view of the Japanese countryside. ❄️📸

Sometimes, visiting a village like this,
doesn't require a full list of photo opportunities.

Just keep walking to the very end.
Then let the view along the way choose the angle for us.
